My Ideas:

I thought that this would be awesome. You use your actual mii as your animal crosser, or you could just use the per designed animal crossers. But what do you think? You could do anything to your mii, change clothes and all that stuff. I think it would be pretty cool. Mainly is you made a Mario looking Mii and bought a Mario outfit. Animal Crossing + Mario. XD

I also thought there should be some type of big shopping centre owned by a frog. It would sell food or something other then Nook. But you would still have nook. But I also thogugh maybe of getting jobs in the game. Ohter then just being Nook's helper.

And I like the bird's eye view. But I thought maybe they could make it a 3d look like Mario Galaxy.

What do you think?

Being able to use one of your Miis seems like the obvious choice, and the style of the other characters should be cleaned up and cartoonified a little - the latter-day N64 graphics no longer do it for me.

You should be able to do more with your village itself. Imagine the level of ownership you have over your house, but it's the entire village you're proud of. Maybe you could get materials to set up a playground, a marketplace, or something else along those lines.

More variation would be nice as well. More ways to make money - maybe you could actually get a job! Make money for pulling weeds or smashing cockroaches. Make them into minigames even.

One thing I'd really like to see is a cooking minigame added. The animals in the game always seem to be talking about food and cooking. Anyway, it'd be good to have something to do with fruit besides plant and sell it.

Here's how I see it happening. First, you have to get a piece of cooking furniture. Depending on the theme, it might be an oven, a pot over a fire, a microwave, ect. When you use it, you can look at your recipe book, which has everything you've made before, or make something new. To cook, you just choose one or two ingredients. You can eat the food yourself or give it to the villagers as a gift.

Will you be able to cook meat dishes and feed them to the animals? Because that just seems... like a great idea! ;D

Of the ideas mentioned, I like the jobs, upgrading the town and the birds eye view.

I would like a lot of the ideas they talked about when the Wii was shown at E3 06. Sending messages via online, visiting a town when their Wii is off, and using the weather channel. Beyond that, I'd like to see more done with the NPCs. Wild World gave them a little more but I'm hoping the Wii expands and gives them even more personality.

Previously in Animal Crossing, the villages have been a bit bland. There needs to be more to do in your village! Different buildings popping up like libraries and arcades and carpenters, and all of them with things to do in them!

For example, I think I may have mentioned this idea in a previous thread, but an interactive carpenters would be great: get a lump of wood, use the wiimote to draw what shape you want to carve it into, finish it off by using wiimote gestures to sand it and paint it! And THEN, pay the carpenter to make dozens of replicas to sell to your online friends!

An arcade would be awesome! Instead of having to get the consoles like on the GCN. And if you win you get tickets and then trade it in for an awesome prize.

Sounds a bit like Paper Mario. Maybe you could use the Wii remote to grind, sizzle, stir and other things instead of just pressing a button.

Smashing Cockroaches sounds awesome for money! And you would have to use the Wii remote and slam it downwards as you see a hand crush the cockroach.

I will make a banner for this thread for some reason latter since we are using this thread. ;D

EDIT:

I made the banner and fixed the first post. ;D What do you think. I made it. Pretty simple. Anyway as in the first post I found this:

Animal Crossing Wii will obviously feature online gift exchanging and letter sending (from Wii to Wii and from email to Wii). But its biggest addition will be that after exchanging friend codes, you’ll be able to play with one or more friends online simultaneous! This creates a real-time, online community in larger towns that allow you to chat, work on building the town, and play motion controlled mini-games together. All signs point to these hints coming true and the game should get fully unveiled by Nintendo at the E3 Summit 2008 on July 15-17th.

A lot more here, source: http://www.videogamesblogger.com/2008/05....now-so-far. htm
E3 Summit: http://www.e3summit08.com/login/login.aspx?redirect=%2findex.aspx

And I found this guy from gamespot's Ideas. They are pretty cool.

-More tools, ex: Lawnmowers that quickly remove weeds but take out flowers as well.
Binoculars for sighting birds, which would be recorded in a similar method as fish/bugs
Rowboat to deeper waters and fish for new/rarer species of fish
Special lures/bait attract different fish/bugs
Bikes/ Pogostick/ etc... just for fun.
Cellphone to call special visitors you've met for hints on when they come next
Snorkel to find rarer shells & view fish. Maybe make use of the dual DS touch screen to rub away sand and find...
... shells
-Bells = 1 unit of currency, Whistles = 1000?
-Real Garden to grow vegetables in a similar fashion as fruit. Have Nook till an optional section of land near the house, etc.
-Use the musical instrument furniture to play K.K. songs in a similar fashion as Guitar Hero or DDR.
-Customizable House upgrades. Nook lets you choose which extensions and expansions you want (think 2D Lego blocks)
-Seasonal Areas, ex: In winter, a mountain pass opens up to allow you to visit a ski lodge & play ski/snowboard minigames
In summer, you can take your row boat out to a tropical island where you meet a pirate who gives you a...
... treasure map that leads you around the island (turns out he is sitting on the treasure)

There was that chowder in AC (GC) that you could get from the igloo's but they never said what was in it . . . But that does sort of remind me of this comic.

My ideas.

- One of the ideas I had was if they aren't going to give us NES games there should be Game Boy (not Color) games to play or even use Game & Watch games, they would not be as good but I don't think those would ever go up on a downloadable service like the VC and Nintendo would not have to fear losing money over it. Or just make new original (simple) games for it.

- Increase the size of the lake in the game and allow the lake in the winter time to freeze over so there can be ice skating and other ice sports (hockey and curling!).

- Allow us to throw parties with friends (there would be no alochol as it might turn out like that episode of South Park where they had to get the pig and the elephant drunk).

- Machima/film making, it would be a good way for the franchise to get more attention instead of just being a simple "communication game."

- Write messages on our roofs.

- Lots and lots of Nintendo cameos.

- I'm mentioned this one before, have poker night with Tom Nook and the ability to take it online.

- Allow us to make the animal villiages say really like quotes like "To Barral Roll, Press Z or R twice!" and other wonderfully like quotes and have them spread in that viral way online like with some content in AC WW.

- Have AC know what other games you have and have unlockable content based upon that, like a statue of a Luma from SMG or a model of a tank from Battalion Wars II.

- Allow us to set the game to Southern Hemisphere seasons because AC (GC) did not do that and was always bound to Northern Hemisphere seasons because playing the game down here isn't the same as the Northern Hemisphere. (Unless this was this implemented into AC WW? Can someone tell me, please?)

You noticed it! XD

Game and Watch games would be okay but I think you are right about no NES games. They should just make miny games.

Increse Lake......I like this idea better:

I just think it would be a better idea going into a mountain zone. You know how in all AC games there is a mountain range and the very back of the town, well that should open. But the lake could freeze and it could be a mini game. Your idea is still cool. They might put a grandstand around it.

And I like the island in summer idea too from the gamespot guy about the pirate and all that.

I have all these ideas about the town that I will post latter. It will be so much infomation. ;D
Re: Animal Crossing Wii Official Thread
Post by snuka7 on May 29, 2008, 11:47pm

Just needed to make a new post for this. All my ideas. It may be a lot. :)

I had my own ideas about buildings in the town.

Shack: There was a shack at the beach with Pascal (I think that is his name, the red bear/mole thing) living there. He would sell shells, buy shells and even sell small valuable items.

Redd's Shop: It should always be in the town. And when you go to the door it will just say he is out. So he lives in your town.

Mall: This is the biggest of them all, the mall. It is 3 stories high. But It might upgrade stories in the game.

1st floor
You walk in and there are doors along a corridor. There are townsfolk in there all the time, looking at windows or sitting at a table or watching fountains. There are the tailors first. It is a bit bigger than the other games. Across from there is the restaurant/cafe. There will be people there sitting at the tables drinking or eating. You can get a job working there and you will cook. Then you go up the escalator to the next floor.

2nd floor
There will be a woodwork place. You can request for furniture or ask them to build something in the town for you. eg: wooden chairs. Small fountains, ect. There is a bull with hammers working there as well as others. Across from there is a functions room. It is empty. You can hire it. There is markets, small shows, ect that happens in there.

3rd floor
The 3rd story is only for staff. So there is no escalator. Only a small door that has a weird stairway. Not fancy. 3rd floor has a new character. A security guard octopus that is watching all these screens that shows each room. Looks pretty high-tech. There also is a door at the end of the small high tech room. It is a nice wooden golden door. It has the leader of the mall, the frog. I don’t know what to call him yet. He is wearing a nice suit. That is where you ask for the functions room.

Nooks Shop: Cranny, Nook ‘n’ go, Nookway, or Nookingtons, Nook would never work in the mall. He is an enemy with the frog not to mention Redd also. But Nook can upgrade a lot more in this game.

Hotel: Yes a hotel. You would have guests all the time, so that means new townsfolk. They won’t always stay long. But sometimes they will. You can visit them or stay there. But there isn’t much of a point since you live not far. But maybe once to try it out.

The Roost: Not in the museum anymore, and is much better, not so dull, K’K still goes there.

The Stage: You know in brawl how K.K comes, the stage he stands on. Well there should be a bigger one and you see different bands perform. And there should be a conductor that looks like K.K but very posh.

Train Station: Yes it returns with Porter and something new, an actual walk in station with a reception desk and all. You can see friend codes and all that there.

Town Hall: The town hall returns but is bigger. You can visit the mare. Buy stickers for decoration things. As well as stamps.

Library: This comes later in the game. It is an extra of Animal Crossing Wii. You can read and borrow books about Animal Crossing History, the characters, and more. They even have magazines that you can buy about new furniture and clothes if you connect to the Internet. There is even a room where they make newspapers. You get one every week or so. The owner of the library is a female goat with a glass over here eye. And if you do something wrong that makes sound, she comes over and screams, “BE QUIET!”

Arcade: No more collecting NES games, because the Arcade is here. This is another extra that comes later in the game. The owner is a pig wearing a ‘I love Nintendo’ shirt. You can play some NES games but mostly custom Animal Crossing Games in NES style. You win tickets and at the end you go to the pig and trade for a small present. There is even a small plush Mario toy that you can put on your bed.

What do you think?

Re: Animal Crossing Wii Official Thread

Some very good ideas that would definitely go some way towards improving the feel that this is a "living" town.

Of course, in order to justify all that stuff, the town would have to be bigger and better populated. Which would, of course, mean another 3 years to translate the PAL version ;)

I like all of these ideas. I also think you should be able to just over the lake for easy access. Plus, like with what Fry said, let's see these guys on the lake, in Nook's store or in the Roost. It's not much but add quite a bit to the game.

Also, I like a lot of your ideas Snuka7.

I was thinking of how the beggining of the game would go. First they had a train, then a cab, and what now? I was thinking aeroplane. And you see Rover, Kappn and others. You could do some event in there. I'm not sure.

And I found this guy and ideas, they are cool.

Quote:

New ways to interact with items and villagers:

Imagine shaking hands with new villagers or the mayor by actually making a hand-shaking motion with the Wii remote! Extremely minor, yes, but it's these little things that really help the game feel more realistic.

And how about item interaction? With the Wii remote, you could actually simulate cranking the handle on a Jack-in-the-box and then mimic pressing the lid shut when he pops out! The great thing is, what motion you have to perform would be up to you to discover! You could have a fancy sword for ages and never know that swiping the Wii remote upwards allows your character to unsheathe the sword! The items that seem uninteresting may actually hide some amazing secrets.

Caves and tunnels in the hillsides:

Remember those cliffs whose only purpose it seemed was to get in your way? Well, what if these cliffs hid secrets, such as caves and tunnels? Every town would come with at least one cave or tunnel, where players could find rare items and maybe even stumble across a fossil or two. There could also be a new holiday centered around the cave, such as a Halloween-type event revolving around a monster rumoured to roam the subterranean corridors. The possibilities for caves is nearly endless, and it'd be amazing if something like this were paired with Nintendo's awesome creativity.

Once boring cliffs could now be dotted with caves and tunnels.

Weather in-game reflecting real-life conditions:

Now, this is an idea EVERYBODY has been pondering ever since the Forecast Channel was announced: What if the weather in the real world were mirrored inside the game? For example, if the Forecast Channel says there's rain, Animal Crossing would pick up on this and turn on the water! This would also be pretty cool when visiting other friends' villages across the Wi-Fi Connection, as your character could be in a Winter wonderland one minute, and in a sunny Summer scene the next!

Temperature could also be worked into things. Say it was snowing like heck on Sunday, then the temperature suddenly shot above freezing on Monday. You'd still see snow, but it would diminish over time. Droplets would roll off roofs and puddles would form. Or what if it were hot and dry for several days? Trees and plants would turn brown, and water levels in the local rivers and ponds would drop slightly. Rampant raining? The riverbanks would fill to bursting, and plants would grow at astonishing rates. No flooding, though, that's just too much.

Of course, if you don't have internet, and thusly no access to the Forecast Channel, the weather would be pre-determined. But who doesn't have internet?

Some ideas are good and some bad. Oh, and I thought I'd give this thread a bump. BUMP! ;D

Oh and Fry, that was an acceptable bump....right? ;)

EDIT:
Crap! He has more that guy:

Quote:
Custom Music

K.K Slider's music is great and all, but what if we could play our own custom music in Animal Crossing Wii? All we'd have to do is load our favourite tunes onto an SD card, pop it in the Wii, and bam! Instant personalized music. All the player would have to do is go to a musical item in their house and choose the "Custom Music" option from a menu. Then they could cycle through their MP3s in the same fashion to choosing a K.K Slider song.

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a little Weird Al Yankovic or Yakety Sax in my Animal Crossing... And perhaps a bit of Portal goodness in the form of Still Alive? Sounds good to me!

Clubs

If there's one annoying thing I remember about the original Animal Crossing, it's that villagers would occasionally blather on about some amazing new soccer/ballet/swimming/etc. club they just formed, and they'd ask you to join. Of course, it doesn't really matter what you say, because the club doesn't even exist.

But what if it did? These clubs could be created by villagers or players, with themes ranging from treasure hunting to gardening. Every week on a specific day (Say, Saturday, for example), you and your fellow club members would meet, discuss what you're going to do, and head off. The treasure hunting club would revolve around looking for Gyroids, fossils, seashells and whatnot, bringing them back and adding them to a central club collection with everyone else's finds. The gardening club would entail the leader handing out flower seeds and saplings to the members to go around and plant wherever they please, beautifying the village. You could even have flower-watering competitions, with club members fighting to water more flowers than anyone else.

Do you think this is an awesome idea? Join the club, we have imaginary T-shirts.

Tree Houses

Look at all those trees scattered across your village. Other than fruit, furniture and the occasional beehive, those trees really don't do all that much. But what if you could put a tree house in one of them? Like your home away from home, your more elevated house could be placed in any tree anywhere in your village. Players could take some nice old furniture and put it up in their new real estate, giving them a new place to call their own.

To make things fair, the tree on which the tree house is built would be immune to axes. It just wouldn't be fair if some jerk thought it fun to chop down your second home, would it?

Each player would get to have one tree house in their town, and only the player who owns the house would be able to place or remove objects within it. So really, it's like you have an additional room to cram all your stuff. But I don't think it's really intended to be used as storage...

Pattern restrictions

Don't you hate it when someone comes along over Wi-Fi and tears up your meticulously-placed sidewalk? Well, worry no more, because in my vision of Animal Crossing Wii, only the player who placed the pattern can remove it. Also, to avoid the obligatory pornographic patterns you're sure to come across, visitors would be forbidden to place patterns in a foreign town.

A point-and-click control scheme

If you've played Animal Crossing: Wild World, you probably know about the touch screen controls available to be used. Animal Crossing Wii would also take advantage of its home console's unique controls, adding a point-and-click navigation option. In addition to moving around with the analog stick, players would have the choice of simply pointing where they want to go and pressing A.

If a player is playing with the Nunchuk and Wii remote configuration, they could use a combination of the two control schemes, switching between pointer and analog control on the fly. If the player only has a Wii remote on hand, it goes without saying that the point-and-click control scheme would be the only available option. And could some Gamecube and Classic controlling work it's way in? Hey, I wouldn't be opposed. The more options, the merrier!

How much! :o

It would not be an acceptable bump... if it was a bump. Which it isn't. You're posting new stuff, which means you're just double-posting, which I don't have a major issue with really so long as it's justified.

But don't keep this topic alive if nobody else is interested in posting in it. That's the path to lock and deletion, my friend!

I just thought of a major decision that has to be made for Animal Crossing Wii: Holidays! I haven't actually played AC:WW, but I don't like what I've heard about the holidays. Apparently, they took out of the real holidays they had in the original and replaced with some shit like Yay Day and La Di Dah Day.

Ideally, the two would mix. In addition to the holidays of the original, I'd like to see the following events from AC:WW added:

*Bright Nights - This is fine, but I'd make this a December holiday.
*Bug-Off - This sounds like a fun activity. A few in the summer months sounds good. This could be made obsolete by a Bug-Catching Club.
*Flea Market - Have this happen occasionally during spring and summer.
*Flower Fest - This sounds fine, but I'd have it as an event for Nature Day. This could be made obsolete by a Town Beautification Club.

Also, I'd like to participate in the Sports Festival. I was so excited that I even made myself a Boy's Uniform, only to discover that I couldn't play. :'(

I like the ideas Sunka7 posted, the cave idea sounds very cool, it also reminds me of Miyamoto's adventures into caves as a young boy that helped to inspire TLoZ games and of that "underground" part of Pokemon D&P I'm heard about.

I also like the furniture interaction idea, it sounds a little hard to implement but it would be pretty coll. It sounds like someone really wanted to swing that Master Sword in AC around instead of just letting it sit there in it's pedastel.

@ wanderingshadow

I would not hold out for the holidays in AC to return as they were said to be removed for religous reasons.

Also, one concern I have with the forecast channel is the problem in game verses with random weather. See, here in Florida (and the rest of the southern east coast) we are having a big drought. It's only rained once in a long time during our wet session (which is suppose to be REALLY wet). So that would suck in AC. It would never rain. It would always be dry. So it's kind of a let down in that sence. Not to mention Florida has dry winters which means it will never snow.

I just thought of something. Since it won't have two screens, there will no need of a slingshot. What could they do to not let it go. Maybe you could click something to look up at the sky. And wen in houses look at the sealing and clean spider webs. HANG ON! If there is no sky.....that means no Observatory! :o :'(

I'd like to see an underwater village. You would need an air helmet to get underwater at the beach and you get to meet the residents of "Fish Crossing" - anthromorphic fishes, sharks, octopi, crabs, etc. That would be very interesting.

Maybe a little much but a cool idea nontheless.

I actually like the underwater idea. I don't think it'll happen though because then they might have to remove fishing from the game.

How about sometimes when you dig a hole, an underground cavern is revealed! Hop in it and you may run into the Resetti family inside. You can talk to them like any other villager.

I'd like to see the lake freeze up on cold winter days. You can see animals ice skating. Neat!

Decorate your village like in the E+ version. Only now they serve purposes. Like a street light will attract moths.

Yeah...you could do that. It isn't such a bad idea. But this is cool to:

Quote:

Some guy wrote it not me.

EDIT:
I found this from E3 pre-event news.
It looks like the graphics are coming out pretty cool. They also said it was coming out in October. A little while to go.

It's Fake. Found it on Nsider2. But it looks pretty convincing.

But many people say it is coming out in December. That's because the Nintendo calender has a page with all the Animal Crossing characters in the December section. Since there was a Mario Kart Wii image in the April section. And it did get realesed in April. Here is a image:

More about that here: http://kotaku.com/378155/club-nintendo-dates-animal-crossing-wii-eh

And on IGN there was a guy that posted this:

Quote:
Could the next installment of Nintendo's acclaimed series power an online community?

US, October 24, 2007 - Edge Magazine reports that a trusted source has confirmed the next Animal Crossing Wii title to be a massively-multiplayer online game. The publication offers no further details on the project.

Nintendo has in the past confirmed that Animal Crossing for Wii has long been in development and would go online, but it has never offered specifics beyond that.

An MMO-style Animal Crossing game would, of course, make perfect sense, as the franchise has always revolved around community features and functioned on a virtual city.

Sounds okay.

Here's a interesting idea that came across, instead having to play the game on the Wii all the time the game could instead be viewed on your DS screen and played from there and multiple people (with DS systems) could do the same thing.

I have some awesome ideas for some new AC: Wii characters! I don't have them drawn out, but they're pretty cool, if you read to their description. You can even share some of your own. Here are my characters I created:

Gender: Male or Female
Personality: Kinda, Bubbly, Snooty, Jock, Brainiac?

Here are 10 examples I did myself! Tell me what you think:

1)Species: Pig
Gender: Female
Name: Georgia
Personality: Hardy and Hospitable

He visits the town starting in the Spring and visits every 3rd Saturday , starting in March and stops in August. Everytime he visits, he comes with a certain challenge of catching a certain type of fish. Sometimes, he hold fishing tourneys and sometimes he challenges you to a fishing contest.

3)Species: Leopard
Gender: Female
Name: Jasmine
Personality: Very kind and magnanimous
Description: Jasmine is a very kind person who works in the mall as the beauty counter girl. If you visit Jasmine, she can give you all sorts of facial makeovers. Whether it be posh , feminine make up or masculine, edgy face paint.

4)Species: Bear
Gender: Male
Name: Hanabal
Personality: Very hardy
Description: Hanabal is a villager in your town that enjoys the great outdoors and especially fishing. Hanabal has a heated rivalry against Miyamoto to be fishing champ.

5) Species: Duck
Gender: Female
Name: Sabrina
Personality: Incredibly snooty
Description: Sabrina is a very stuck up, wealthy duck that who lives off of the extravagant wealth of her privately owned beauty shop in the mall named “ Flash & Class! Beauty Parlor!” that she doesn't even work that. Sabrina normally helps fund a lot of what goes on in the town.

6)Species: Eagle
Gender: Male
Name: Elroy
Personality: Grumpy and demanding
Description: Elroy is an ex-military five star general and a best friend of Camofrog. He acts a lot like him.

7)Species: Raccoon
Gender: Female
Name: Tammy Nook
Personality: Like a feminine Tom Nook
Description: Taking after her husband, Tammy runs the beach and ski resorts in town.

8)Species: Beaver
Gender: Male
Name: Benjamin
Personality: Resetti-like
Description: Benjamin the Beaver is a sharply-dressed manager of a clothing store within the mall.

9) Species: Peacock
Gender: Female

10) Species: Lion

So what do you think? Make some of your own! I'd love to see your ideas.

I should point out that it looks like real world hoildays that were in AC on GC and not in ACWW appear to be returning for ACCF. The video of the game had Halloween and it looks like everybody's favourite black nosed raindeer is returning too.

Also this thread should be renamed Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Also from what I'm heard it's not a movie theater it's just a theater where that emotion comedian guy/axolotl performs stand up routines and teaches you a new emotion.

It's just blank patches of ground/soil (as in no grass on top of it) it's nothing to get excited about. There was quite a few places where it could be seen after 1:07 that wasn't behind a house. The only thing those patches of ground/soil do is allow you to make a snowball smaller when building a snowman in winter.

Though this could confirm snowman making is back in this game though.

City Folk font is in modern font, love that. Fits the concept of city store logos. Also, the new choice of attire for the AC boy on the artwork is carried from Brawl. Interesting. Though I prefer fisherman hat to No. 1 shirt.

I'll be getting this game by Christmas Eve (as late as possible) to start off with Jingle.

No. The Wild World boxart used a fisherman hat and club shirt. The Brawl trophy used the 1 shirt from the other games but it wasn't used for boxart or artwork a lot. This is the boy design that'll be a UFO plush for City Folk merchandise. Brawl is making things popular, this is one.

This probably means the PAL version started translating into English separately from the US translation. Which means the delay in release should be significantly reduced. So quit whining that we got a more accurate title translation, and start getting excited that you won't have to wait a year after it comes out in the US ;)

It's for New Year's Eve, the clock on the town hall is a 12:00 AM and that sign could easily fit the words "NEW" and "YEAR" after "HAPPY."

A lot of games do this. I know Wii Music has it a little bit and Mario Kart Wii DEFIANTLY has it. I don't think Nintendo EDA cares enough about graphics. They are more focused on making the game enjoyable and accessible rather then pretty (or nice). Looking at sales, the rough-around-the-edges games tend to do better then the big budget (and smooth) titles.

I don't even care if they change the models or not now. Just smooth out the jaggies! They're so... so... 64 bit! :P

Besides, they've cleaned up the textures, so it's not like they're averse to updating them a bit.

Yes, Franklin was in the PAL version, though AC:CF will have some different holiday for the different versions (Japan, NA, PAL holidays). PAL and Japan will supposedly not be getting (the equilvalient) of Thanksgiving in this game and get new celebrations instead because of the whole inviting friends over Wi-Fi feature.

Also the festival Pale host is somthing called Carnivale or something like that.

Well I doubt it will happen this time around. Especially with the different holidays in different regions, you'd have to program all the holidays in every version of the game... That's not likely.

Also to celebrate Halloween, here a Halloween/trick or treating video from AC:CF.

I remember back in AC (GCN) on Halloween I lost one of my favourite shirts, the "Grass" shirt (it has a grass pattern like the ground in the spring season in AC, it was also made by Gracie so it was rare as well) because it was turned into rags that night.

That's just how I feel.

Re: Animal Crossing City Folk

Can't really blame them, I mean most non-gamers are women. They could have shown maybe another ACCF Wi-Fi session with a man talking to the women though (unless that would have made ACCF look too "hardcore" and male oriented even though it's not)
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by koopaul on Nov 11, 2008, 2:32am

Well it's not the fact that it's a woman playing the game. It's the fact that the focus of the commercial is this average person and not the actual game.

I swear to god. I overheard a conversation between two guys at college and they don't even considered the Wii a gaming console! I told them about all the great games on it and they never even heard half of them, or if they did, they got the impression that they were more Wii Sports games. The advertising here is making the Wii look pathetic in the eyes of a gamer.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by wildcat on Nov 11, 2008, 11:03am

Nintendo's not going after gamers these days. It's very depressing. They're trying to capture casual gamers (i.e., my parents), and it's working out for them, so why stop? It's annoying as hell to all of us who are Nintendo fans, but it's winning the videogame war this gen. I know quite a few girl gamers (including my wife), so it's not just that they're targeting women - they're targeting the ones that don't play games (judging by that preview of the AC:CF ad, they're after trendy prep girls who normally wouldn't play any games). There's a big difference between those two groups of women.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by thegamemaster on Nov 12, 2008, 4:43pm

And also, these truly hardcore games don't even get comeercials, I haven't seen any of 'em, so it's basically Wii is a console for everyone, and everyone means people who don't play games. And they don't want those people to know about the hardcore games because then it will be a game the CAN'T play, so Nintendo is just saying: "you want hardcore? Come to the back of the store."
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by snuka7 on Nov 13, 2008, 4:16am

lol, hardcore.

But, woh, woh, woh. Nintendo is going for many non-gamers and are winning this gen's war, but I don't know if they are going for the 'girls' to play games. As much as the girls are enjying the games, boys are to. You can't say that women are enjoying it more just because they put girls on the ads. They aren't targeting them either, it's just that they put the grils on the ads, but maybe don't even mean to do anything.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk

Companies have a limited amount of budget to spend on advertising every year. Why would they need to advertise for "teh hardcorez" on television? Teh hardcorez already reads websites or buys videogame magazines.

The whole purpose of advertising is to inform people about your product and to try and convince them to buy it. You lot don't NEED to be informed or convinced, and Nintendo has learned through waning sales figures over the past few years that nobody else gives a rats ass about the latest Smash Bros. or Mario or Zelda game except for you.

Nintendo's job is to make money by selling videogames. And after many years of low sales, they are finally doing it - and in order to do it they've had to change tack. And they must be doing something right, because now Sony and Microsoft are clamouring to rip them off - and failing due to focusing entirely on teh hardcorez.

Being a dedicated gamer for pretty much my entire life, it is kinda galling that I have now been sidelined for my mother, who is likely to buy anything with Animal Crossing in the title - or my work colleagues, who want Wii Sports, Wii Fit or Brain Training.

As far as the games that are coming out, people seem to be thinking in terms of percentages rather than number of game titles. We've probably gotten more traditional games on the Wii than we have on any other system at this time in the console cycle, but we've also got a load of casual titles. So it's almost like everyone's worried about teh hardcorez gamez being diluted - That's only like 60% hardcorez, rather than the 99% we're used to, even though we have like 200% the number of games we usually get.

Following the very recent, very exciting announcements of a ton of new games for teh hardcorez over the next year... I'd think most of you would have stopped complaining. But nooooo!

Complaining is fun sometimes. :P

I did temporarily forget the recent Punch-Out!!/Sin & Punishment 2/etc. announcements, but I think the even more recent Disaster: Day of Crisis psuedo-denial by Reggie soured my hopes for some of those titles to make it here. Maybe I'm just pissy at NoA. :P

You'd be surprised.
I was having a talk with someone at college about the Wii, and he said "Well Wii Sports is fun for a while but I rather play real games on my 360."

Not even mentioning Wii Sports prior to that, he acts like that is the only title the Wii has. I informed him about Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, and Galaxy.

He said he had no idea.

You must be blind because it is graphically superior to the N64, GC, and DS versions. The reason you don't seem to be able to tell is because you aren't looking past the art style. Also while Friend Codes suck, it also keeps the DS and Wii from being weekly regulars on "To Catch A Predator" and from suffering due to GIFT. Yes, the Wii does have parental controls, but who actually messes with that? Friend Codes is a problem with the CONSOLE, not the game. Lastly there is more customization in terms of making your own clothes, as well as the fact it has Mii Integration and thus you can make your character look like you.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by dancesinunderwear on Nov 23, 2008, 7:17pm

Shit graphics is not an art style. Its just shit graphics. You cannot, honestly, tell me that AC is designed to look like that for any reason but Nintendo being lazy fuckers.

I don't give a shit about GIFT and To Catch a Predator and blah de blah blah. I know its not just AC's problem, but at the very least these games should be using the console Wii code, and I'm not interested in buying their shit until they sort it out.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by samaine on Nov 24, 2008, 11:03pm

Yes, I can, because they didn't use the same models from the N64/GC release or the DS release, and if you played the N64, GC or DS release recently, you would know that. Now if you think that Animal Crossing has a crappy artstyle, then that's ok, but don't blame it on the graphics or on Nintendo being lazy.

As for Wii Numbers, there appears to be only one per console and that would hurt local multiplayer games... You know, the sort of games Nintendo has a distinct advantage in. Not only that, but Xbox Live will always have the advantage in terms of the online services of the consoles because it's been refined for 5 years longer.

This sorta thing has been happening since the bleeping SNES, where people complain that it's not the cool console and only for kids. I know, as I've been a vetern of console wars dating back to the SNES, and was a gamer since the NES. I even hated on biggest new game Pokemon some 10 or so years ago. It is not Nintendo that abandoned the core gamer, it's the core gamer who abandoned Nintendo. It's not Nintendo who abandoned the third-parties, it's the third-parties who abandoned Nintendo. Nintendo is just earning it back, much like Sony had to earn their third-party support with the PS1.

Its not an artstyle. Nintendo has clearly done nothing more than marginally upgrade the graphics that have been in place since the 64 version. I mean, is Mario 64's graphics an artstyle? If it was, why were later Mario not exactly like it?

Graphics shouldn't be the biggest reason to dislike a game. Personally I think this was okay, while they could have done a little more, they still had plenty of new things in there to make many fans and newcomers happy. I like that they brought back the old holidays plus new ones, added new fish and bugs, new characters, new furniture, expanded on customization. and added Wii Speak. That's pretty good in my book.

I entirely agree on this point. The gameplay is the same, and the graphics are much the same (running the original models through a "smooth" filter doesn't count as a visual upgrade - especially where you can still see the polygon edges!)

And the reviews seem to be saying it too - it's the same, just on Wii rather than DS. As someone who was already peeved that the DS version didn't expand enough on the Gamecube game, I guess that rules me out entirely.

Not only that, but the new additions to the gameplay are hokey at best. The City is silly, holidays should not be a selling point, and the new items (while cool) do not warrant a new game. If anything, that's worthy of an EXPANSION.

If they let people, y'know, upload the WW stuff to CF and go from there, I could see it. But since it's being touted as a whole new game...?
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by koopaul on Nov 26, 2008, 4:53pm

Well I think Animal Crossing is one of those games where the only thing that's going to be given in sequels are new additions rather than retooling it from ground up. Much like the Smash Bros. series where we look forward to new characters and stages rather than a whole new gaming experience.

Ask yourself, would it be an Animal Crossing game if the gameplay were any different?
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by dancesinunderwear on Nov 26, 2008, 5:49pm

As long as it kept the fundamental concept of Animal Crossing - that is, mind numbing chores and collecting shit - then yes, it would. Both Smash Bros have added some additions to the core gameplay (B>, Final Smash, etc) and extra modes in addition to just the 'expansion' elements (plus character rebalancing doesn't really work with expansions, but anyhoo...). With Animal Crossing, however, as Flip said, it adds nothing that couldn't be added in an expansion pack, and so is it really worth being a new game?

The bottom line is Animal Crossing was practically perfect, the only thing you could do in a sequel to make it better is to add new stuff in it. That's my philosophy.

The next Animal Crossing will be just like the others, only with new features, events, characters, items, and bugs/ fish. That's the pattern, that's what your gonna get.

Listen, Jennifer. In a world where every single impressionable mind is constructed with the Silly Putty your little boyfriend got you for your Sweet 16 last week, and, oh I don't know, maybe you'd be able to take your head out of your ass and realize that people don't want the same thing over and over again, but instead dream of being able to rip the head off a prostitute in broad daylight just so they can gun down a policeman.

And, hey! Let's not improve one game with not only the same graphics as before, but gameplay as well! That'll sure show Microsoft who's been cranking out lu-uh-uh-hots of original adventure games that people seem to be so interested in, and maybe Nintendo will seem to get the idea! But do they? I like to hope they do and they're just hiding some super secret wicked awesome game that is just so fantastic, the whole world will orgasm itself into a coma, which must be the reason that their mouths are so tightly shut during a time when Microsoft and even Sony seem to be pleasing their fans.

Call me old-fashioned, but I want games that don't repeat the same formula over and over and over and over and oooooooooover again. Maybe that's just me, or maybe it's also a large majority of people who also own Wii's and seem to be very disappointed.

Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by tveye on Dec 2, 2008, 11:09pm

I can think of hundreds of way to make Animal Crossing better and more unique.

1. Instead of a small town, why not a large city with roads and such that you actually drive to your destination instead of characters like Kapp'n driving you.

2. Have K.K. Slider concerts be more well known. Everyone in your town can watch him perform instead of just you. That'd make it more unique.

3. Make decorating your house way more easier, like Sims.

Etc., etc.

I mean, really. There is so much that they can do, so if they don't, then why bother making a new one?
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by koopaul on Dec 2, 2008, 11:17pm

Well those are merely new additions. While you were complaining about it being the same game over and over, wouldn't adding those things you mentioned still make it the same game but with new features?

-And actually multiple people can watch K.K Slider concerts in City Folk. Didn't you see the video?

-The problem with having a huge city instead of a town means it will be harder to take care of or customize.

That case is different. In Animal crossing, they want things changed. In MegaMan, people were tired of the changes being made and they wanted something old school and retro. Capcom just appealed to fans. Nintendo did not.

Another reason was the amazing amount of potential the game had to improve itself as well.

Remember back at E3 2006 when Nintendo was talking about WiiConnect24 and brought up the idea of what a future Wii version of Animal Crossing could do with it.

Remember all the idea's that we posted in this thread for new stuff that could have worked in a new game . . . and how much of that stuff got in (like none right?)

I'm still surprised that AC:CF can only support up to 4 players online, you could think that could at least go up to 6. The next thing I want to know about is how the AC DLC will be like and if it will be worth it.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by admin on Dec 3, 2008, 4:27am

New ideas? Well, for one I'd want improved models and more importantly improved animation for the characters. They're little cartoon animals, but most of the time they look like little clay dolls. For a game that puts so much stock into learning emotions and sharing them, there sure isn't a lot of it to go around.

Here's a big one: The joy of Animal Crossing is moving to a town and meeting people and befriending them (or hating them - damn you Freckles!!) But the character roster is identical now to over 7 years ago when it first came out on N64. A couple of "key" characters have been added in, but the magic of that initial moving day, that exploration, is gone.

Frytown on DS was pretty much the same as Frytown on Gamecube - similar facilities, similar layout, similar river running through it... Why can't we choose between a number of different locations for our town? Perhaps a seaside resort, or a forest, or scrubland, or why not let us move into a city?

The towns are too small. That's fine for clusters of houses, but I want to go exploring! Why not expand the size of the map to include more places to explore? Head into the woods, or perhaps into a network of caves. You could find secret minigames that change every day and reward you with items or Bells - like puzzles or even sections that test your in-game skills. So you have something interesting to do every day, rather than just harvesting the trees of fruit and the beach of shells to sell for more Bells.

When I first booted up Animal Crossing, it was this little house and this little shop that quickly expanded into a whole town that I enjoyed running around and exploring. But that was 6 years ago. The DS game offered nothing new to grab my attention, and it looks like the Wii version won't either. The reason? It's not that it hasn't added anything new, it's that it hasn't expanded its scope... AT ALL. It's small, it's limited, and it's not going to spring any surprises or urge to explore on me. Just another mortgage, just another little town, just the same old stuff to do.

Ah I see. Thanks Fryguy.

But I still don't think a large town will work with this. Exploration shouldn't be a factor in AC because your supposed to take care of your town. If there's tons of secret areas, it will be hard to care of it. Imagine looking for weeds in a large forest! That whole finding secret mini-games that test your skills sounds more like Zelda than Animal Crossing.

The problem is I can't find a new scope that will work with this concept of the game. Except maybe turning it into an MMO or perhaps obtaining occupations, or even allowing you to BE Animals instead of humans.

I guess you guys are right. But it's not that easy when you think about it.

Finding weeds in the forest? Sheesh, your supposed to take care of the town! Not the forest! And mini games? They're like rewards for people who have a perfect town and are bored of going around and socializing. They made you able to visit a city, that's all, it's a small city! Let's face it, all they did was change things, add a few things, and take things out.

For having such little effort put in, it sure is a popular game, it seems Nintendo is only adding little and changing little to appeal to the casual market. Some people just say, "it's a game on a new system, therefor it's bigger and better"
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by koopaul on Dec 3, 2008, 11:50am

Nonono. You don't understand, I'm saying putting a forest to explore in wouldn't work with the type of game this is. This is not an adventure game where you go and explore unseen places.

This is a game of communication, customization, and care. Not exploration, mini-games, or puzzles.

You must expand on those three "C", other wise I don't think you'll have an AC game anymore.

Which is why I'd like them to have cars and roads, so you'd be able to drive around your large town at ease.

Wanna play Golf? Drive to the golf course! Go out to eat? You can order pizza!

There's just a lot I'd like them to do, but I know they never will.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by koopaul on Dec 3, 2008, 1:51pm

But still it's harder to care of a town that's huge. Imagine trying to find that one weed that's preventing your town from being perfect, or try to plant enough trees, what a pain. You guys gotta remember that your home isn't the only place you customize and tidy up, your town is like your own person environment to plant flowers, dig up fossils and more. All those things will just be so much harder if you had a huge city-like town. And imagine the loading time too!

Yeah, I'd like to see a bigger town, but not at the scale you guys want. It sorta ruins a lot of things that a cozy town was supposed to have.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by thegamemaster on Dec 3, 2008, 8:27pm

Loading time? LOADING TIME? This game is for the WII1

And the city doesn't have to be huge, and all you have to do is look in the only spots where weeds ACTUALLY grow.

Seriously, it's like you're just trying to turn good ideas down.

Then you wouldn't have to buy the game? They could still do the "cozy town" on handhelds.

You pull weeds in the forest so why not pick up garbage in the city AND pull weeds at the city park?

Whether Nintendo changed the gameplay and offered more options or not, City Folk is still making millions for Nintendo.

At least Nintendo did something different for City Folk: giving you the option of travelling to the city. You couldn't do that in Animal Crossing and Wild World.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk

Well, here's some bad news for Australian owners of ACWW that purchased the game before the end of 2005 who want to transfer their character over to AC:CF. You won't be able to send your character over apprantly.

It appears the AU version of ACWW is actually a NA version, even the DS card will say AUS on it but when you boot the game up it will mention "ESRB ratings may change with online" and ESRB is of course the NA media ratings board. In Europe, ACWW came out about 4 months after the NA version (in 2006), so those versions should be okay.

So when you try to transfer over your character to the Australian/PAL version AC:CF it will not accept the game card because it is actually from NA.

Here's a video showing the DS card in question.

Well, isn't the city just a combination of all the special events (Gracie, Redd, Katrina and the rest of them) all gathered in one place, accessable at any time, compared to what they they were in previous games as events that would only occur on certain days that you were mailed in/told in advance.

The city is really just a more accessable version of these events, that just allows you do stuff in your own time, instead of when the game schedules it. (Which I find to be a better idea actually and it would also be better for newcomers as well).

Ha, that sucks for the Australians. I bought my copy of ACWW then, but it was imported, so I knew it was a US copy.

In response to the criticisms for my ideas...

Animal Crossing isn't about exploring? Are you telling me that there weren't little, uninhabited patches of your town far away from your house where you would travel and maybe plant yourself an orchard, wishing there was something else there to do?

Having minigames isn't "Zelda" or even the preserve of the adventure genre. I'm not suggesting you go into a cave, collect keys, fight enemies and then try out some target practice... Why can't there just be a network of caves to explore? Why can't there be a forest to explore? They could be "outside" of the town limits, so you don't have to worry about weeds. Perhaps you could even meet new characters who move into your town. You could have large games of hide and seek. You could fish for more unique and rare fish, or they could throw in a bunch of all-new minigames to make it even more interesting... It's somewhere new to go and something new to do. The city is somewhere new to go, but you're doing the same stuff there as you do with travelling merchants in the other games.

Anyway... Koopaul, you have just highlighted the BIGGEST problem with Animal Crossing now. You're pulling weeds and planting trees to maximise an invisible score. You're trying to "win" Animal Crossing, which isn't what the game is supposed to be about. I guess that's what separates gamers from non-gamers.

Why can't you personalise your town more than just planting flowers? Why can't you decorate it, or even choose where you want your house to be? Why can't you hold little events of your own that the NPCs will play (the treasure hunt was always fun for multiplayer, but why can't the other characters join in if you send them clues or post them on a town noticeboard?). Why can't you arrange to socialise with the animals? More opportunities for minigames there if you take them bowling or for tennis. Animal Crossing should foster a sense of community, rather than the feeling that I am a loner in a town of robots.

Other ideas? Why can't there be mini story arcs that take place over days or weeks? Yes, like a soap opera. It could be something like a blossoming love between two of the animals, or it could be something significant, like a build-up towards the holiday season. Help the other animals put up Christmas decorations around town, arrange or take part in special events in town... Worried about how Nintendo will fit all this extra stuff in there? Don't be! They're online now - they can add story arcs whenever they want!

NOW we're talking about a game I want to play. You have the same gameplay as before, but you have a ton more stuff to do. And it's all within the remit of the original game without being basically the same thing. Exploring your surroundings, personalising, socialising... this is what Animal Crossing wants to be... not weed-collecting, tree-planting and errand-running. AGAIN!

So there will be more things to download to this game from the Wii Shop Channel, I've heard.

I'd kill for an SMB2 furniture set:

Themed Wallpaper
Themed Floor
Vase: the snake thing pops out (sometimes jumps out) when touched
Bird Face: opens when touched the first time, and closes the second time
Vine Tree (in a plant pot)
Vegetable Garden...thing

Can't think of others for it at this moment.

I think Fry has fantastic points. I always equated Animal Crossing with Harvest Moon, only with the farming replaced by socializing/home building. How about not just caves and forests, but vast waterways to explore? You can rent a canoe and go to the island that was erroneously removed after the first game, or explore past your town's cliffs and see what is beyond them. How about pets, or some sort of creature-hunting minigame? I know this isn't Zelda OR Harvest Moon, but how cool would it be to include a monster ranching sidegame? There are thousands of possibilities.
Re: Animal Crossing City Folk
Post by boodestroyer on Dec 6, 2008, 2:43am

Agreed with Fry on all points as well.

The general idea behind Animal Crossing is good, but its novelty needs to be harnessed a helluva lot more than how it's going now.

More simple "story" parts, not just that awful work-for-Nook part in the beginning. Explore various places (maybe even deserts, snowy mountains...? I don't know, just a thought), actually work out the friendships with the other townsfolk, more interesting minigames.

Add more to the city part too, I'm sure, instead of just one mere plaza. Possibilities galore!

And the game really should not rape your ass with weeds and stuff after neglecting it for some time. ;)

Monster Rancher...Where have I heard that name before?

Funnily enough, a lot of Fry's ideas are already in Harvest Moon. Which is why I ditched Animal Crossing in favour of that. ;)

They could be executed better, though...

I finally got my hands on City Folk yesterday, and at the end of the month, I purchase a wifi router, so I'm hoping to play with all you folks at that point. It's a wonderful game, and I like it more than the first Animal Crossing (having hardly played Wild World, with it being stolen after two days). Plus the wifi + WiiSpeak is going to make it only better. I already have my initial house paid off, so it'll be only two weeks tops when I have my house fully paid off. :-P I don't quite understand the ballooning presents though, they float too high to get caught in trees, and I'm sure there's a trick, but I haven't gotten it yet.

I have to admit I only played the GCN version, so I don't know if this will work in ACCF but I think it should.

It okay to leave stuff outside/bury, if your the only person playing the game that is, because if others are playing they can pick up/dig up what ever you left behind when they play the game.

Way to make/get more space (This works in the GCN version).

It's okay. It's nothing that couldn't already fit into the town. Gracie's clothes are overly expensive, the HRA should have just been a mail-thing, the auction house is just random, the theater just sucks, Katrina should be an recurring character at best as well as Redd, but the hair styling shop is a nice touch. The city's also nice for seeing an array of random animal characters every time you set foot outside, I often saw animals I had in the old Animal Crossing that I missed, and it was a nice touch. (except that time I saw Rizzo... I hated him) The city's alright.
