- A long-awaited game series in 2002 never materialized... ...Huh? Hasn't the game series been continuing pretty solidly for over ten years now? I don't remember any ever being cancelled, either... What I meant was the Ruby/Sapphire series was delayed until 2003. I was hoping for a Summer 2002 release. Up to that point, they followed a consistent pattern... 1998: Red and Blue 1999: Yellow 2000: Gold and Silver 2001: Crystal 2002: Pokemon Advance (logically)

Remember "Meowth's Party"? That was canceled; however, it was merged into the GCN game, Pokemon Channel.

America-wise, there has been a funny pattern: 1998, 2000, 2003, 2007 The Japanese dates have been like a year eariler (except for R/G in Japan was 96 I think) and going by that 3-4 year period (not exact but close enough) of a new generation being introduced. I think the next generation (gen 5 (V)) will be announced/released in Japan in 2010. (western release 2011) And with that in mind, i wouldn't be to surpised to see that rumored G/S remakes get released in Japan this year (and then the west in 2010).

Well, there was a two-year hiatus between Emerald and Diamond & Pearl, filled up with Gale of Darkness and DS spin-offs. Speaking of which, I wonder why hasn't a new Wii game been announced. Do you think that one, if created, could make use of the Wii Speak?

Remember "Meowth's Party"? That was canceled; however, it was merged into the GCN game, Pokemon Channel. Meowth's Party wasn't cancelled, it was never a game to begin with. It was a tech demo, just like that thing with the 128 Marios walking around on a huge circle. It was nothing more than a minigame created by Nintendo to show off what the Gamecube was capable of.

Indeed, before that even. I believe it was used as an end credits song for the TV show in Japan. Did you know that in Japan the anime has a bunch of different ending songs? A couple starring Meowth on his own.

The Pokemon franchise probably has more episodes and movies than any other video game franchise, excluding crossovers like Nintendo's Captain N: The Game Master and Acclaim Entertainment's The Power Team (also known as "Acclaim Masters" during it's airing on USA Network sometime in the mid-90s).
I've only seen one movie in theaters (Pokemon: The First Movie) and four movies at home (First Movie, 2000, Pokemon 3 and Pokémon Ranger). For the television series, I stopped watching it during its airing on Kids WB back in the late-90s/early 2000s when I began to lose interest in the series. Today, I was watching the Pikachu Movie 2001 and Pokemon 3: The Movie on WGN at 2:30 PM.
I rarely watch the television shows on Cartoon Network and other channels, because I don't usually see them on TV Guide Network, and I'm usually too lazy to use the guide button. Sometimes I become afraid to watch them when my parents are at home, cause if they see me watching the anime series, they may say things like "You're 24, remember?" and "Grow up and watch something educational."

You're 24?
I'm late to this retrospective party, but I got Blue (as all my friends had Red) with my newfangled Gameboy Colour for whatever birthday it was, and picked Squirtle because turtles are awesome, and Blastoise was so much cooler than Charaizard and Venusaur. Later, I got Silver as all my friends had Gold, and picked Totodile as crocodiles are also awesome, and from then on, kept that tradition of getting the 'second game' (Sapphire, Leafgreen, Pearl) and starting with the water starter (even though when playing Pearl my final team ended up ditching Piplup for a Totodile (from TEi, no less) and included both of the other starters (my god theres a lack of fire Pokeymans in every game).
And yeah. Blastoise is still awesome.

ON TOPIC: One thing I dislike about the Pokemon series is how complicated it is. There are 493 species in existence and there are probably several more species created in the minds of the Pokemon staff, which will be on their way. Of course it's made that way to add a lot of replay value, sometimes I don't want to play the Pokemon series everyday. When I first saw some shiny Pokemon other than the Red Gyarados in the G/S/C series (which is also in the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum series), I tried to obtain them in some trees, but it takes so many tries to obtain them, and most Pokemon you see are not shiny. This bothers me as much as trying to level up as many people in the Fire Emblem series while keeping everyone alive and obtaining every rare object or weapon. Currently, I've decided not to do this again; however, if I accidentally encounter one, I will try to obtain it. Another thing I dislike about the Pokemon series is like most other RPGs, when you are very strong and you don't want to waste time entering a battle against weak enemies (or Pokemon) and either choosing to defeat or run away from them in order to move on. I heard the only RPGs that don't have this are MOTHER 2/SNES EarthBound, MOTHER 3/GBA EarthBound and Persona 4. Although, you might want to catch some weak Pokemon for certain reasons or you might want to use Repels to save time moving through grass fields, caves, and other similar places, what if you were trying to catch the Legendary Beasts? They took me a lot of time catching them only in Gold, but I never tried to do the same thing in Silver nor Crystal due to my interest in Pokemon business falling during those years. OFF TOPIC: Sometimes I become afraid to watch them when my parents are at home, cause if they see me watching the anime series, they may say things like "You're 24, remember?" and "Grow up and watch something educational." Which is why you get your own apartment! Sorry, my parents want me to stay home. Pretty soon, when they get old, I would have to take care of them as much as they did to my grandparents. Well, I'm still 23, but I'll be 24 this April. Sometimes when my birthday is near, my parents would say things like "You're 24." (which I'm not at that age yet) when talking to me about certain things in life, like whenever I do something wrong, they teach me a lesson to not do it again.

My parents and I still watch Disney animated movies. We don't feel embarassed to watch what we watch at my home.
Anyway, I have been watching the anime series lately and what sickens me about them now is how freak'n PETA they've gone. Seriously! I hate the fact that Pokémon are treated like people. This whole "Pokemon are our Fwiends" deal is gone overboard. Like this one episode where a wild Pokemon was being attacked by another, Ash and co tried to make them "settle their differences"
For the love of God its NATURE, don't risk your life for a Raticate who upset some Vileplume! In nature we let these things happen to animals... because it's nature. I used to like to think Pokemon are animals you could capture and tame. Uh those days are gone.
Now they have these long "Pokemon at Play" moments on the show that are really gay. Ash used to only pull out his Pokemon when he needed them, now they're out there frolicking about more than they battle.

I remember hearing Ash in Pokemon 3: The Movie say that the Pokemon are like family. That reminds me of my parents giving one of our dogs our last name. Looking at the cuteness of Pikachu still feels the same way as looking at the cuteness of mine and my brother's very first pet chickens, which are Quail Antwerp Belgian bantam breed. Especially the hen, which my brother called her Spud after walking by a bag of potatoes laying next to the outside of the porch of a house we used to live in, while we were trying to name our pet chickens. This was the breed that got me and my brother into enjoying chickens. We used to have photos of them, but we can't find them. Here are some photos I found online that resemble them: Rooster (which I named him "Bradley", probably because he usually attacked me with his spurs. I thought he was "bad", then I thought "badly", then I think either my brother or mother said "Bradley". I might have also came up with the name from watching the Snowbird Report on the local news early in the morning and heard the chief meteorologist say "Bradley County schools are closed". I don't remember exactly why I named him "Bradley".) Hen (like I said before, my brother named her "Spud", not only because he saw a bag of potatoes, but also because her size was equal to one. Looking at Pikachu felt the same way as looking at Spud, because of how similar they look and sound.) That man in the photo is not me nor anyone I know. Pokemon is also similar to the sport called cockfighting, which is illegal in most U.S. States and several other regions, but I think that the Pokemon series was actually inspired by the way insects that Satoshi Tajiri collected (like stag beetles for example) battle each other.

The best thing about the earlier Pokemon games was how disturbing they were. Here are a couple instances that come to mind...
Cubone wearing the skull of its dead mom *shudders* Butterfree dying after they mate... Haunter going into people's dreams and scaring them to death... The story of a Hypno kidnapping a child so it could constantly eat happy dreams...
Crazy stuff...

Yeah the games are darker in general compared to the cartoon. That balloon Pokemon from the new generation is filled with souls of the dead and apparently tries to kidnap little children or some shit. Also there's that book in a library that tells a story from long long ago about some guy killing a buttload of Pokemon for the hell of it. I remember reading the comics were pretty dark too. Something about an Ekans getting sliced in half? Arbok I guess.
