Jumping ahead to July 1991, volume 26, here are two more letters about older people enjoying the NES and Game Boy. Grandma the GamesterMy name is Mark. I have a grandma who was babysitting my sister and I one night while we were playing our NES. I asked if she wanted to play with us, and she said, "Not that's for kids." Later we went to bed. In the middle of th night I woke up because I heard beeping. Grandma was on Level 4 of Super Mario Bros.!
Mark Giuntini Medford, OR Heh. There was another issue of NP that was filled with letters of parents being caught in the act, so we'll see more of this kind of thing! But here's another letter about a senior gamer that's kind of cool. Senior StrategistI am 15 and an avid video game player. I love my NES and have beaten almost all of the games I have. But recently I have been forced to share my Game Boy with someone else: my grandfather. At first I firgured that he wouldn't be any good, so my turns would come quickly. Wrong. My grandfather, Frank DeLong, amazed me with his skill at games like Tetris, Klax, Spot, and Golf.
He can play them all with only one hand. He had a stroke when he was about 67 that left him without the use of one arm. My grandfather is about the best player I know at puzzle and strategy games. He is now in the hospital again so I gave him my Game Boy and Tetris to help pass the time. I hope he has a quick recovery -- at least he'll have a great game to keep him company.

Here's a letter from December 1991, volume 31, that I find amusingly prophetic. In response to Nintendo Power asking readers what their "ultimate game system" would be like, one person sent in this letter: If Only We Had 27 Fingers! My fantasy game system would be a complex 512-bit system. It could display 27,876,992 colors at one time and could play any game from any video game system that ever was or ever will be! There would be a miniature band inside that knew how to play any song! You could even buy a special chip that would allow you to make your own games for it! What game would come with the system, you ask: Super Mario Galaxy, better know as Super Mario Bros. 24! The system would come with six 27-button controllers and would cost $259.95. I would call it The Raw Power System!
Jimmy Peterford Glen Cove, NY So, now we actually have a Super Mario Galaxy, and the part about being able to play "any game from any video game system that ever was" is a little like the Virtual Console. As for the 27-button controllers, hook up a Classic Controller to the Remote, and you actually have 27 buttons altogether if you count all four directions on each D-pad. On top of that, the price isn't too far off, either! I wouldn't use the phrase "raw power" to describe the Wii, but I wouldn't have wanted to use the word "Wii" to describe it either. Anyway, are you guys finding these letters entertaining? In the words of the Prince of Persia, "Shall I go on?"

0_0 I've heard of Mario Galaxy being predicted, but I wouldn't have thought about seeing the original post. And I think the prediction is a bit of like Wii and DS combined. Miniature band? Check. Make your own game? Check. The only things that differ from the prediction would be the word size and the color depth. 27876992 translate to 1101010010101111010000000 in binary or 1A95E80 in hexadecimal, which obviously make no sense, and at that time people would have thought the bit number means everything - who would've thought about a 32-bit next-gen system with a motion controller? And we don't even have Galaxy as the 24th SMB - I consider it SMB6 - count it: SMB1, SMB2J, SMB3, SMW, NewSMB, SMG. (There's a few places with "SMB4" writen on the Japanese boxart of SMW) One thing I hope that would come true though. SIX CONTROLLERS. Wii having 4 controllers is a bit of disappointment. You don't usually need it, but when it comes to occasions like friend visits, a good multiplayer environment will come in handy. And with a wide screen, splitting the TV into 6 parts in racing games is not hard. And I would've hoped for a better resolution too. Graphics don't mean everything, but that doesn't mean I should read pixels when playing games. And keep the letters coming. I do read them.

That Raw Power one is kinda spooky, but they're all fun to read. I say keep 'em coming!

I wonder how that guy must feel about it now that it's here? Pray this doesn't get to his head.

Actually, the letter was recognized by Nintendo Power a little before SMG came out, IIRC.

Hey, it is possible Super Mario Galaxy could be technically Super Mario Bros. 24 if you count all the 2D and 3D platformer games and remakes of those games but not remakes of those remakes. 1. Super Mario Bros. 2. All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. 3. Super Mario Bros. Special 4. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels 5. Super Mario Bros. (Game & Watch) 6. Vs. Super Mario Bros. 7. Super Mario Bros. 2 8. Super Mario Land 9. Super Mario Bros. 3 10. Super Mario World 11. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins 12. Super Mario All-Stars 13. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land 14. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 15. Super Mario 64 16. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe 17. Super Mario Advance 18. Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 19. Super Mario Sunshine 20. Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 21. Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 22. Super Mario 64 DS 23. New Super Mario Bros. 24. Super Mario Galaxy

Why would you count remakes as sequels? That's mental!! And Super Mario Bros. Special wasn't developed or published by Nintendo and hasn't appeared on a Nintendo system... And you also counted some Mario spinoff platformers (Wario Land, Yoshi's Island) but not others (Super Princess Peach). You didn't even get the release order right It's madness!! Here's how NinDB will list them: 1. Super Mario Bros. 2. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels 3. Super Mario Bros. (G&W) 4. Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) 5. Super Mario Bros. 3 6. Super Mario Land 7. Super Mario World 8. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins 9. Super Mario 64 10. Super Mario Sunshine 11. New Super Mario Bros. 12. Super Mario Galaxy I will also be throwing in All Night Nippon SMB and SMB Special, but not as sequels.

Well, it was worth a try. Fry, I got the order from MarioWiki, I assume its incorrect then? Edit: I counted Yoshi's Island and Wario Land because both of them had "Super Mario Land/World" in the title so I didn't include Super Princess Peach. I also counted certain remakes because they had more features and/or were somewhat different from the originals in different ways. If its an exact port, I didn't count it, even remakes of remakes like Super Mario Bros. + Duck Hunt and Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World because they were still the same.

I define "SMB" as "Platformers featuring only Mario and Luigi as playable characters". As such, I don't count Mario 64. Hey, it is possible Super Mario Galaxy could be technically Super Mario Bros. 24 if you count all the 2D and 3D platformer games and remakes of those games but not remakes of those remakes. 1. Fry, I got the order from MarioWiki, I assume its incorrect then? Entries of Wiki-style websites tend to include EVERYTHING. Even unofficial stuff count. Not my style, for sure, but that's just another way to count stuff. Edit: I counted Yoshi's Island and Wario Land because both of them had "Super Mario Land/World" in the title so I didn't include Super Princess Peach. I'm not sure about YI. Nintendo of America ASSERTED the title - it isn't even related to SMW in the first place.
