Lately they've been obsessed with Minecraft and talking nonstop about Sonic Generations.
They also have a section dedicated to Pokemon Black and White. Their Marvel VS Capcom 3 discussion went beyond 50 pages.
They seem to have very... general tastes, which is why it's pretty irritating to hear them bash DKC.

Donkey Kong has great appeal to general audiences, but a hard time picking up dedicated fans. This is why it sold so well, the general audience bought it. As you say, fans do not equal sales figures. However, sales figures equals fans. The more people who play it, the more people are likely to buy the next instalment. There's so many kinds of fans though: - People who enjoy it and look forward to the next instalment... aka. normal people. - People who obsess over it and play it exclusively, putting together speedruns, etc. - People who already know loads about the series and take it apart based on that (which probably includes these forums) - People who envelop themselves in the game's story, perhaps writing fan fiction, creating their own characters, etc. - People who make furry porn. But if fans doesn't equal sales, and fans are generally a weird bunch of obsessives and social retards (myself included), then why would you want there to be MORE of them?!?

Hm I suppose its mostly me wanting a bunch of obsessive social retards to discuss this stuff with. In that case I'm selfish.

i understand Koopaul's plight. It's no fun being the only or biggest fan of something in your immediate social circle or even the entire Internet. I guess the point is that even though the general public buys DK based on brand recognition, it still doesn't have as big or loud a fanbase as many of Nintendo's other properties, or even video game properties in general. Heck, look at friggin' Earthbound's fanbase compared to DK's.

You've stumbled on a gang of dorks. You know, hats stacked so high this one is tiny by comparison. They'll say anything against a game if it doesn't produce a meme.

i understand Koopaul's plight. It's no fun being the only or biggest fan of something in your immediate social circle or even the entire Internet. I don't understand... I love being the only fan of Clu Clu Land ;D That's the issue right there though. There's a big difference between an immediate social circle and the internet at large. It would certainly suck if I created a fan forum for Clu Clu Land, and it was only me in there posting all the latest Clu Clu Land news. But that's why you sometimes have to leave one social circle and move on to one that is more accepting. If you want to talk to people about Donkey Kong, and you're frustrated that the community you're in shuns you for liking DK games, then why not come here and start a topic? We're pretty open-minded here. Hell, we have obsessive Tomato Adventure fans, a thriving community of Tingle lovers, and some of us even like Clu Clu Land! What makes you think we wouldn't want to talk about Donkey Kong? Unless you just want to slag off Jungle Beat... We don't stand for that kind of blasphemy round here

I like Clu Clu Land myself. Enough to want a revival game of some sort. Jungle Beat still sucks though! >:U

I don't think Jungle Beat sucks... but you know my stance on it.

I know everybody's stance on it. And you know mine. Koopaul, seriously though, start a conversation about Donkey Kong here. Can't promise anyone will post in it, but that's because there might not be that much to say right now. We tore DKC Returns to shreds when it came out, looking for every tasty cameo morsel, and I certainly loved the game... We do love a lot of games though, and so are easily distracted away from having a single fan obsession. I wouldn't say we're "General Sales" though. Oh wait...

One other series that's had it worse than DK is Wario - both Wario Land and WarioWare. Very extensive titles (to a certain degree), but quite overlooked.
Basically, not mainstream enough, and most of their games have had less than stellar sales for quite a while. WarioWare Smooth Moves fared well due to being a Wii launch title and made extensive use of the Wii Remote (looking back now, after all these other games, oh my!), but aside from that, what's the deal?
Wario's later adventure titles, aren't all that much either. While the first few Wario Land games were made by Nintendo R&D1 (will be missed), some of the later games of his, got handed off to outside developers of questionable quality (Suzak and Treasure, maybe. Though not as bad as Artoon on some Yoshi games), thus ending up pretty awkward for the most part. Hell, good luck getting a Wario game from the in-house EAD at this rate.
Wario was at his peak on the GBA with a lot going for him, but after a while, he seems to have slowly gone out like a light. Okay, I'll put it this way: Wario in Mario games is popular (even then...), but Wario in Wario games is obscure.

Wario Land: Shake It was freaking awesome though. I would flat out refuse to judge a game's or series's popularity based on "Nintendo handing it out to some other developer". Good-Feel did an amazing job bringing Wario Land to the TV screen... and the hand-drawn animation art style really was amazing. Shame more games aren't made that way. The WarioWare games do pretty well, I thought... but then I live in Europe where they've always done well (except for Twisted, which we never got ) Now Yoshi! There's a dino who has been shat upon from a great height! How many more times must Artoon crap out broken Yoshi games before he is rescued?

Now, don't get me wrong, I did like Shake It and I see promise in Good-Feel, even with Kirby's Epic Yarn.
Hell, they should handle the next Yoshi's Island if they get the chance. Seems just right for them.

While Wario Land Shake it was good, it felt tiresome after a while. Unlike Wario Land 4 where every level felt like a unique experience, Shake It sort of felt like the same thing going on over and over...
