All right. I got my 3DS for $170 today. I am an Ambassador now so I am getting my 20 free games. ;D Did anyone else here manage to get the 3DS for $170 yet?

I was all set to buy one today, hop on to get my ambassador status, then go back next week and get the difference refunded, which would have given me the console for $170 as well ($170 Australian, mind you - the new RRP here is $250, so it was hugely cheap this way).
But then I realised something. There is nothing on the 3DS I want. Yes, Mario Kart and Super Mario are coming, but that is months away. And even then, I don't need them straight away.
I'm probably taking a trip to the US next year, I'll probably pick up a cheap 3DS & [Mario Kart / Super Mario] bundle then.
I will miss getting those free GBA games, though.

Thought about it, via combined price of NES titles = NZ $90: GBA = More than a hundred (130-140?) Price drop of 3DS was NZ$100 . . .
But like Lizard Queen . . . There's nothing on the 3DS I want now.
I'm starting to think I'm getting burnt out by gaming.
Also I can't see 3D . . . which is probably the more important thing and buying a system for a main feature I can't even use, doesn't sound like a good idea.

I'm starting to think I'm getting burnt out by gaming. Also this. Oh god this. But I think I've gone way past the point of 'starting to think' I am. I am burnt out on gaming, and I don't yet see anything on 3DS bringing me out of the funk.

I often find I get burnt out by gaming around the turn of a new console generation. I have spent most of the last few weeks completing NES and Game Boy games I never beat before (e.g. Zelda 2, Metroid 2) and sitting there waiting for something to arrive on 3DS.
Ocarina of Time was great, and I still need to play through the Master Quest. Steel Diver and Pilotwings Resort have proven to be nothing more than occasional distractions, and the fact these retail for full price is a disgrace.
I love my 3DS, but the only things I've played on it for weeks now are Mii Plaza StreetPass Quest and 3D Classics Xevious (did I mention I love Xevious?) My GBA SP has been getting more love than my 3DS of late.
Nintendo misjudged the market. Not only did they release the system too soon at too high a price point with too few games, they have failed to justify why it existed during that time period. If they released it in June/July at a lower price point alongside Zelda, and with Mario and Mario Kart for the holiday period, then we wouldn't have these long periods of no-games. I know most consoles take a while to get a good library, but this has been far too long now...
As for the freebies, fine. Except I still have my GBA SP plugged in and all of the games they have announced available to hand. I also have most of the NES games several times over. It's nice to get free things, but over the years I dread to think how much money I've spent on Super Mario Bros...
So I'm being rewarded by not having to buy digital download copies of games I already own - sometimes several times over. Meanwhile there are still no new games on the bugger worth playing until the end of the year. I'm looking forward to Star Fox 64 3D, but that's not new. I've played it before.
I would say don't give up on the 3DS. The 3D effect is nice once your eyes adjust to it (I now have the slider at max all the time) but the best features are the crisp quality screen and all the crazy fun crap that comes built into the system. Nothing requires 3D, and you're missing just one of the many features the system has.
Hopefully, soon, a game library will be one of those features.

The reason I held off on a 3DS was the lack of games. I picked up Zelda, despite not being able to play it, because I knew I'd want it eventually and getting it early meant I got a free CD out of it. But outside of Zelda, there still isn't anything else I want. Not 'til Kid Icarus and the Mario games, anyway.
I eventually bought one purely because I had an hour or so to kill in town and I spent most of that hour standing in a game shop with my little brother. I don't regret it, since it turns out the built-in games are actually pretty great. I'd never heard of them before getting it, but they're a lot more interesting than the retail ones.
The free games are great for me. I never owned a NES, so the only NES games I've ever legitimately had were the two Zelda games on the Gamecube collection and Kid Icarus on the Wii's Virtual Console. I never had very many GBA games, either. I think the only ones I own that're likely to crop up here are whichever Mario Advance was actually SMW, Metroid Fusion (we know that's one of them already) and Minish Cap. Pretty much all my other GBA games were non-Nintendo or Pokémon, and I can't see them putting any of the main series Pokémon games in there.

It'd be pointless to include Pokémon in the VC lineup since the GBA VC can't connect in any way.
It'd be awesome if they release WarioWare Twisted this way, and making ti availabe to Europe this way.
The 3DS would be a much awesomer system if it is a mid- or late-2011 system, I'd say. Release it with Zelda, Star Fox and maybe Mario and Mario Kart. Again, while it is understandable that Nintendo wanted to give time for the 3rd party games to shine, they really should have changed that as soon as they realized the third party games were just as late as theirs.
The NA version of Star Fox 64 3D should have been playable a month before now, not in September, since the game is already finished anyway (I said they'd miss out the summer break chance this way too). Same goes for the Ambassador VC games (especially the GBA ones, where they don't even need to program an emulator in the first place).
As far as gaming goes, 2011 looks like a long year. So much awesomeness months away from us.

@ Parrothead I think so. If you connected your 3DS to the Internet and got it updated before 11:59 PM on August 11, you should have gotten a message from Nintendo about the Ambassador Program. Anyway, I think (and hope) the remaining 10 games are: NES - Metroid, Kid Icarus, Clu Clu Land, Punch-Out!!, Wario's Woods GBA - Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, Wario Land 4, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Golden Sun, Advance Wars I am hoping that the games are not all Mario and Zelda games nor are they games that are already available on the 3DS (Excitebike, Urban Champion, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Dr. Mario, and more)

According to The eShop News, in the week of August 15th, Nintendo's going to put up a Site for Ambassadors, revealing information about the program for Ambassadors. I'm going to put what's on the news:
Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Update
Nintendo 3DS costumers who performed the latest system update or connected to the Nintendo eShop before 11:59pm Eastern time on August 11, 2011 were automatically registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program.
During the week of August 15th, Nintendo will launch a website that will allow customers to enter their Nintendo 3DS serial number to check their 3DS Ambassador Program eligibility. Once the website is live, you will receive a message with the link.
Starting September 1st, 2011, Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge from the Nintendo eShop. By the end of 2011, Nintendo will also provide Ambassadors with 10 Game Boy Advanced Virtual Console games. To download these games, Ambassadors will need to connect* to the Nintendo eShop. We will be announcing more information and instructions for how to download them soon.
* Wireless broadband internet access required
So yeah, there's my 2 cents, so y'all don't have to turn yo 3DS on and go online. And yes, that means I've finally gotten my 3DS. A charming console, it is.

Gonna sound a bit dickish for this . . .
If Nintendo does allow GBA games on the eShop, I think it would be better for Nintendo to sell WarioWare Twisted and Drill Dozer (in Europe) than letting the Ambassadors have them (and be exclusive to them only for the time).
Nintendo could actually get sales out of them (manly DD because it's the only one in it's series) which could help convince Nintendo of giving them sequels (like Sin & Punishment)
I got WW:Twisted last year (as like the last GBA game on the store shelf for super cheap) and it is awesome.
Though I tried to import DD from Amazon (as recent as Dec 2010) but couldn't and would love to play it.

Though I tried to import DD from Amazon (as recent as Dec 2010) but couldn't and would love to play it. For some reason Amazon.com won't ship video games outside the US. I'm not sure why, I buy DVDs and books from them all the time without any problems. Luckily somebody on Amazon.co.uk was selling copies of Drill Dozer, so I go one that way.
