Making a 2nd thread probably wasn't a good idea

Today's image is interesting. I'm guessing it's something on the Pikmin stag this time around.

Yeah, it's the Pikmin 3 ship also seen in the stage background of other screens.
And man, I really love the whole open yard setting they used compared to Brawl's stage. It's soothing
Until a bunch of snagrets start wrecking shit up probably

Today we see Mega Man falling ill. Fortunately, the Pikmin provide excellent first aid service.

I have kind of an odd idea. It wouldn't make sense for Pikmin to be able to lift and carry fighters, obviously, but what about items? Boxes, especially? I mean, it sounds kind of ridiculous, but is there some way to stretch that idea to make it work, somehow?

I mean, it sounds kind of ridiculous, but is there some way to stretch that idea to make it work, somehow? In theory, yes. Some characters (Wario and Yoshi come to mind) in Brawl could eat items, so the idea of an attack affecting items is not without precedent. The only thing that would be new would be using it to keep an item, which still wouldn't be strange. In practice however, there would be some problems negotiating Pikmin strength against Pikmin count, and trying to figure out how to avoid accidentally grabbing an item when you were trying to hit the enemy with that Pikmin. Smash Bros. has so far only had 3 weights for items, light (standard items like the Beam Sword and Ray Gun, where you move as normal) heavy (big items like the Barrel and Bonsly, which, generally, negates jumping,) and Hammer (the Hammers, which restrict jumping.) To do this, you'd have to either simplify or remove the strength mechanic for the Pikmin, or you'd have to weight the objects for one character.

It doesn't necessarily need to conform to the item weight system or with the Pikmin types' strength. Perhaps any item besides containers, golden hammers and Smash balls could be lifted by any one Pikmin. It could be used, not only to keep items for yourself, but to keep effective items away from opponents. Using Pikmin that're holding items is the only really tricky part I can think of. It'd also be kinda funny - if rock Pikmin are included - if the rockmin could be thrown at containers to break them. Probably next to useless, since it's already easy enough to open them.

It could be used, not only to keep items for yourself, but to keep effective items away from opponents. Using Pikmin that're holding items is the only really tricky part I can think of. It depends on how the system works. Perhaps you can only use Pikmin to grab an item if you aren't already carrying one, and the Pikmin immediately gives it to you when it comes back. Actually, it could be functional if Pikmin grabbed items, assuming heavier items could be moved as well. In that case, you'd probably require more Pikmin to move them, in which case a rock Pikmin would be very useful: Getting your other Pikmin on the Crate would be a time-waster since you had to throw a few to get it to come, and they probably wouldn't be able to jump with it, as well, so if you're on a different platform, it would just render you with less Pikmin. Throwing a rock Pikmin at it would therefore allow you to get at the lighter items inside, so your Pikmin can grab that Ray Gun and bring it back without much difficulty.

Is this a recovery move? Side special, perhaps?

^ Well it's obvious that the SSB team are experiencing a new leaf . . . . . . of WEEEEEEEEEEED Seriously, Villiger riding a flying gyroid (flyroid?) is f*****n crazy awesome Today we see Mega Man falling ill. Fortunately, the Pikmin provide excellent first aid service. All I can imagine when looking at this is the white Pikmin shouting (in a high pitched voice) Yo bitches! Help us haul this hunk of scrap back to the Onion! Because pudgy purple here, ain't doin shit!

Sakurai hasn't really shown any items really. Why would he start showing a new item out of the blue? I think its a move.

He doesn't seem to have at this point, but who knows, maybe he already has? The Balloon Fighter hat, the boxing gloves, whatever, could potentially be items themselves.
Alternatively, they hadn't shown a new character before they showed Olimar. At some point they will be showing items in the shots, who's to say that 'some point' didn't already happen?
....I think its a move though.

4444th post! Yay, new stage for 3DS! Whazzat? Don't tell me it's linked to that Ferox stage... Stage speculation seems fun now, despite that I want to see more straightforward stage introductions. I guess there's something good from not announcing the stages right away.

Its a Kid Icarus stage. Miiverse message is "Viridi, Goddess of Nature, is about to obliterate the humans as they battle, driven by greed." Apparently a 'Reset Bomb' is the key element for the associated chapter in KIU, and is thus speculated to be part of the stage. It looks like it might either be a large stage or an upwards scrolling one, from that image.
