In the last 2 days the Nintendo DS has sold 87,000 units across Europe, which is an impressive figure. It breaks the previous European console sales record set by... the Gamecube - by 20% no less.
On top of this, the PSP has been delayed in Europe for a number of months, and is now expected in July or August... which is odd, as that's when console sales are at their slowest.
Nintendo has an opportunity to keep control in Europe now with a high number of their systems available, a large number of games, and a window to impress before the competition hots up in time for Christmas. I've already seen posters on the streets and on buses, and TV ads during popular TV shows. This could be the Nintendo Europe I've been waiting for ever since the release of the N64.
