Finally finished Torna - The Golden Country. I did not end up doing every side quest because I got a little burned out from the grind.
The ending was very emotional, as expected from how things unfold in the main game. I admit it got to me, not just because of how it ends, but because it felt like I was finally "finished" with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Sure, there are some loose ends I can still tie up (I'm still missing one rare Blade), and Torna has its own NG+, but as for the main content, it feels like I've covered it (twice in the case of the main game).
Having been so heavily absorbed in it for the past 10 months, it feels a little hard to let go. (I had similar feelings about Breath of the Wild before it.) It's definitely one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and I feel quite attached to it. I imagine I'll jump back in from time to time (again, as I do with BotW), but it's time to move on to other games for now.
Maybe I'll finally get around to finishing Ys VIII.

I've been having a bit of gaming ADD lately. I've not yet finished Torna: The Golden Country, but I think I'm near the end. I also have not yet finished Ys VIII, but I think I'm getting near the end of that, too.
Because it's October, I started playing and streaming a game of Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness, but I stalled when I started having technical issues. Recently, I also squeezed Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water back on my Wii U (had to delete a bunch of things, including all Smash Bros update data), so I've been playing that a bit.
And I've also had the urge to play some Fire Emblem, of all things.
So, yeah, basically playing a bunch of games and not finishing them.

There's actually a recent episode of the Retronauts podcast where they discuss some of Mario's prominent voice actors (plus Bob Hoskins). It's a pretty fun listen.

Oh yeah, here's the SNK panel from PAX West a few weeks ago, or at least the part that's worth watching.
It's mainly just an overview of some of the games and features of the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. However, one interesting thing they mention is that the original 1980 arcade release of Sasuke vs. Commander contained a bug that caused the game to crash at a certain point, so it was impossible for anyone to actually beat the game and see the ending. But with the release for this collection, they fixed the bug, so for the first time ever, people will be able to complete the game.

I've been thinking about what kinds of changes I'd like to see in the remaster, and I started to realize that there isn't too much that could be changed without breaking the game.
For one thing, people want to have Mog to carry the chalice in multiplayer mode so that none of the players have to do it. But the problem with that is, if the players all run off in different direction, which one does Mog follow? It's really necessary for a human player to manage it.
Also, the player carrying the chalice really has to move slower than everyone else so that it's always possible for the other players to catch up if they get left behind.
Things like that are pretty much baked into the design as necessary evils.
One thing that could be changed, though, is having a hot button for the defensive move (blocking or dodging depending on the tribe). Something like that needs to be used instantly, and having to select it from the command list makes it all but useless.
Also, I'd like to see some post-game content. I remember the developers saying, even back when the original version came out, that a lot of players wanted to keep playing the game after beating it. So, maybe there could be an optional high-level dungeon, or perhaps even a New Game+. But at the very least, it would be nice if it worked like Breath of the Wild or Xenoblade Chronicles 2, where the game acknowledges that you beat the final boss, even if you reload and keep playing.

Been slowly working my way through Torna: The Golden Country. Since the story is supposed to be fairly short, I've been mainly focusing on doing side-quests and exploring to make it last a bit longer.
Also playing Lightening Force/Thunder Force IV. I managed to 1CC it last night (although I've done it before on the original cartridge), and I made it to #34 on the online rankings for expert mode.

The next DLC crossover character for SNK Heroines is revealed as a gender-swapped SkulloMania from Fighting EX Layer (and you may remember originally appearing in the old Street Fighter EX series): This was not entirely unexpected. Thief Arthur was kind of an "exchange" character due to Iori Yagami appearing as a guest in the fighting game Million Arthur: Arcana Blood. And at EVO, Terry Bogard was revealed to be a guest character in Fighting EX Layer, so it was suspected that a character from that game would also be a guest in SNK Heroines. And now, that leaves one unfulfilled exchange: Geese Howard was in Tekken 7. So, it seems likely a Tekken character will be the next (final?) guest character in SNK Heroines. EDIT: Oops! I forgot that Mai Shiranui was in Dead or Alive 5, so I guess there could be a guest character from that, also. As for the game, itself... I don't have it. Just didn't seem worth a full-priced purchase for the thin roster + extra for DLC characters + having to get the Nintendo Switch Online service to play online. Not to mention some reports that the Switch version has some performance issues.

The first Sega Ages games, Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV, are out now worldwide!
I didn't think they'd come out since Sega America gave them zero publicity leading up to release. Also, they're using the original name "Lightening Force" in North America.

I liked the way they revealed all the Final Fantasy games, with kind of a slow buildup to a crescendo. It started somewhat unassuming, with Crystal Chronicles Remastered, XV Pocket Edition, Worlds Maxima, and Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon. OK... so Final Fantasy is on Switch, but in kind of an honorary way. None of the recent main games are here. (FF15: Cute Mobile Edition doesn't count.) Then, suddenly XII: The Zodiac Age appears. Whoa! An actual main, post-FF6 game is coming to a Nintendo console! That's kind of a big deal! Then the narrator abruptly changes tone. VII appears, followed by footage of IX and X & X-II HD. I'm left speechless. It's finally happened. (Even if VIII was conspicuously absent.) The reaction at the Nintendo World Store in New York sums it up well. You can almost hear the gasp when VII appears. ...And then the whole thing is overshadowed by Smash.

That was quite a lot of Final Fantasy. It's almost as if Square Enix was caught off-guard by the runaway success of Octopath Traveler, and said, "Quick! Let's get as many RPGs on the Switch we can!"
Of all of them, tho, I'm still most interested in Crystal Chronicles. I am kinda interested in FF12, too. But I think FF7 is about 20 years too late for me. (I know it'll likely be digital-only, but man, the irony of that game showing up on a cartridge-based Nintendo console.)
All in all, it was a very good Direct. I think maybe better than their E3 presentation.

It remains to be seen how much they'll actually change the base game, but there's a lot of little QOL things they could do to make it less divisive.
The biggest issue was that it was a multiplayer-focused game that was very difficult to actually play in multiplayer, so the online multiplayer alone will make it shine like it was always meant to.
Otherwise, the only other known changes at this time are new areas in current dungeons and voice acting for some of the characters.

New Sega Ages games announced for Switch. They include Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Columns II Online Battle, OutRun, and Thunder Force AC. Also, Space Harrier was announced last week. Columns II Online Battle will, of course, include online play, and OutRun will have some new music arrangements. I'm also thrilled to see more Thunder Force! AC is actually just an arcade version of Thunder Force III (some of the levels and music are different), and it was re-ported to the SNES as Thunder Spirits (with tons of lag). But you know what would be even cooler? If Sega would actually start releasing the games they've already announced!
