OH, HELL NO. Are you serious? A cast so big you're unlikely to ever even use 80% of the characters? Every post in this topic just convinces me more and more that you're trying to design a game which is, in effect, every game you've ever played rolled into one.
Please, please, please promise me you'll never take up a career in game designing.

Adding millions of characters just REEKS of fanboyism. Kirbychu is correct.

You'd be surprised how many characters are available in each of the Fire Emblem games. The first one had about 50, and I only posted 25 so far, with about 25 more left. I cast the battle system in the mold of those. Plus, what else would there be to do in a bunch of worlds themed after Nintendo games? You seem awfully pessimistic. A guy can dream can't he? I don't plan to, but I can have my ideas if I want to. That's the point of the game. It's a Nintendo RPG. I also don't see how someone can be "correct" if he was just giving me a bit of constructive criticism.

I cast the battle system in the mold of those. So... what you're thinking up is a Nintendo Army RPG? Well, it's... unique, I'll give you that. But a game with so many characters generally means a large number of them become disposable. Plus, what else would there be to do in a bunch of worlds themed after Nintendo games? I dunno. What could there be to do in a bunch of Disney-themed worlds? Cramming everything they could think of into the game wasn't on Square's list, so I'm sure you could think of other things. Basically, if Square had applied the thinking you seem to be about this to Kingdom Hearts, the aim of that game would be to sit and watch every Disney movie back to back. I mean, look at what you wrote for Hyrule. You just described an entire Zelda game right there. And then you have like... more than 20 other worlds as well? Would this game be contained on one disc, or would I need to buy a CD rack for it? The whole Mickey Mario goes AWOL thing is a huge cliché, too. Just sayin' You seem awfully pessimistic. A guy can dream can't he? I'm not pessimistic, it just sounds genuinely awful. There's nothing wrong with thinking about what you'd like in a game, but if you're sharing it over the internet, you should at least make sure it's realistic. For example, I want a game which wakes me up in the morning, gives me some words of encouragement, makes me a grilled cheese sandwich, and then calls work for me with a really convincing reason that I need to stay home and play it. This, however, is unrealistic, so I won't make a thread dedicated to designing it. You say you want feedback, but seem reluctant to actually listen to any of it. So... carry on, I guess.

Yeah. Mine was to stick with 30 characters. I think with a Nintendo RPG, you need to let the characters have their own voice. That, and limit over representation. Mario had the most characters at 5(Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, and Yoshi).
I segest thinking out side the box. That, and pick major world, not just everyone.

Well, since this topic has been revived, I'll update my storyline a little.
Third World: Mushroom Kingdom Main Quest: This world will contain two dungeons and Toad Town. Because the guards won't let you in the castle you must go through the sewers to meet with the Princess. But your progress will be slowed when you run into Bowser, who is also trying to sneak in. When you reach the castle Peach has already been taken. Now you must team up with Mario and go to Bowser's Castle(Dungeon 2). At the end of the dungeon you face Bowser, but right before you defeat him a portal opens up in the battle field. Bowser grabs Peach and jumps through it, and it closes before you can follow. Now you and Mario must return the the lab and search the other worlds for both Hector and Peach. Side Quests A dungeon containing one of five Ultimate Weapons,...
Fourth World:Sheriff/Wild Gunman(I'm Considering calling this world "Hogan's Valley", since that game couldn't really have it's own world.) Main Quest: This world isn't really important to the plot. Sheriff joins your team and you help him save the girl, fight the bandits, and defeat their leader, the Wild Gunman. Side Quests:Probably some shooting mini-games, maybe a horse race

So... what you're thinking up is a Nintendo Army RPG? Well, it's... unique, I'll give you that. But a game with so many characters generally means a large number of them become disposable. I really should've thought up better abilities for them. Every character needs to have a use at some point, even if it's not crucial to just beating the game. After much thinking, I decided you were right about this. I'm considering deleting the posts I made and cleaning it up a bit, then reposting it. I'll probably just make Hyrule consist of two dungeons and an outside area. I know, I know. I just wanted Mario to have a good role without hogging the spotlight like he usually does. I also wanted to give the other Mario characters a chance. What else could I do with him? OK, so I'll admit I got a little carried away. I'll have to cut down on the stages and put a bit more effort into the story. Now that I've had another chance to ponder, I thought a bit more about how Namco X Capcom paired the characters up, and compared it to Smashchu's idea to have multiple parties and Tei's idea to divide the characters into categories based on themes. My newest idea concerns the story and it involves various characters from various corners of the universe forming groups that are geared towards the goal of taking down the Dark Alliance (Is it OK if I used this name, Smashchu?) I figured that the game would be split into two acts, and in the first act, you'd end up crossing paths with all these mini-armys, and by the second act, you'd have them all rounded up into one big collective army and lead them to the Dark Alliance's base. Now I realize that in NXC, some of the character teams are a bit weird. For example, I can understand Gil (Tower of Druaga) and Arthur (Ghosts n' Goblins) being on a team, but why in Blue Blazes is Klonoa tagging along with them? Here, I've opted to place the different world together in different parts of the universe where they'd make the most sense, like putting the Mushroom Kingdom and the DK Isles next to each other in one area, and placing the Lylat System near the F-zero GP site, as they're sister series. Then, the characters from the surrounding worlds would end up having ties with one another, and the characters whose worlds are not shown would have formed their groups before you arrived. One idea I had that I though would be interesting is the pairing of Panel de Pon and Yoshi's Island, but I'll leave the rest of you to figure out why. I think I'm gonna have to draw a map for this... Secret Fact: I based the order of the stages on the previous page on the order of the tracks on the Smashing...Live! CD.

I can see why, but I think it's okay for Mario to hog the limelight a bit in a Nintendo RPG. He is Nintendo's mascot, after all. It's good to see you're putting some deeper thought into your ideas. It's beginning to sound better already.

Thanks for that Smashchu.
So as far as worlds are concerned, I've decided to limit it to this, in order of progression:
1. Lylat System 2. DK Isles 3. Hyrule 4. Angel Land 5. Nin City (c wut i did thar?) 6. Popstar 7. Sinnoh (yeah, I've opted to go with the latest version) 8. Eagleland 9. Lylat System (Revisited) 10. Yoshi's Island 11. Brinstar 12. Mushroom Kingdom 13. (Can anyone tell me the name of the FE1 setting?) 14. Popstar (Revisited) 15. Mushroom Kingdom (Revisited)
Optional worlds include: -F-Zero GP -Infinite Glacier -Super Flat World
Plotwise, I've changed it so that The Hero is thrust into Corneria soon as he walks through the Warp Zone. You don't get to Nin City for three more worlds, after which you'll find out more about the Dark Alliance (even though a few hints were dropped by Wolf, K.Rool and the Eggplant Wizard earlier) and that residents from all over the universe are fighting to stop them. It then becomes your job to travel through the universe, save all the worlds and round everyone up to take the bad guys down.
Along the way, certain things will be revealed about a certain Council Of N, and a comet called NOVA. I won't spoil the whole thing here, though. That'll come later.

Yeah well, that and the characters is really where the meat is supposed to be. The worlds are basically arenas.
I also remembered another flaw in Namco X Capcom's system that I'm aiming to alleviate. That would be repetitiveness. After you first learn how the unique attacking and defending button sequences work, you basically find yourself doing the same thing over and over for 45 levels, all of which usually require you to just beat every enemy or boss guy. Add to that the fact that the levels are unusually long (about 1-2 hours each), and you have a recipe for disaster. You'd have an easier time getting all the trills of this game simply by watching the videos on the game's website.
So, I've opted to give each world's battles some type of unique gimmick to set them apart from one another. For example, when fighting against the Metroids on Brinstar, they can only be beaten by being frozen by Samus's Ice Beam. Another example would be Sinnoh, which only has wild Pokemon as enemies. Therefore, you'd be able to catch them with a Pokeball and use them as summons later (like in flip's idea).
Now here I'll list all 60 usable characters in no particular order:
1. Mario 2. Donkey Kong 3. Stanley 4. Tamagon 5. Bubbles 6. Balloon Fighter 7. Ice Climber 8. Foreman Spike (I've made him a good guy) 9. Luigi 10. Peach 11. Little Mac 12. Mach Rider 13. Marth 14. Yoshi 15. Alm 16. Kirby 17. Meta Knight 18. Sukapon 19. Wario 20. Link 21. Zelda 22. Takamaru 23. Samus 24. Pit 25. Donbe & Hikari (had to combine them into one) 26. Harry (Viva la VB!) 27. Gokuu (The Disk System needs some lovin', you know) 28. Wild Gunman 29. Mr.Stevenson (So does the Zapper) 30. Michael Jones 31. Captain Falcon 32. Fox McCloud 33. Falco Lombardi (I was gonna only use Fox, but then I thought of Tei) 34. Mike Anderson (in his mech) 35. Ness 36. Flint 37. Diddy Kong 38. Dixie Kong & Kiddy Kong 39. Lip 40. Roy 41. King DeDeDe (He's a good guy here) 42. Sigurd 43. Dion, Max and Jack (They're all in one) 44. Hakkun 45. Leaf 46. Pearl (the Pokemon Trainer from Sinnoh) 47. Ray-01 48. Prince Richard 49. Muddy the Mole 50. Ike 51. Demeiru 52. Starfy (These are for Parrothead) 53. Andy 54. Sami 55. Max 56. Jill 57. Captain Olimar 58. Mr. Game & Watch 59. The Hero (I was thinking of naming him Mark "Fry" Kelly, after our God the site's creator) 60. (An original character whom I'm basing on Princess Lana from Captain N)
You might notice that I used more older characters than newer ones. That was kinda my intention from the beginning. You may also notcie how i included all the main FE lords and the three main COs from Advance Wars. I figured that since I wanted Intellegent Systems to develop this game, they should get substantial representation. If anyone thinks I should've used characters other than the ones I listed, let me know.
Next time, there will be how the characters' factions are split up, as well as the summons among other things.
