Should we change the name of this topic to the "list random Nintendo characters" thread? Because that's what it seems to have become. Which is why you're not videogame developers. I'm not sure if that statement was directed toward me, but you pluralized "developer", so that leads me to believe it was meant for more than one person. If you weren't talking to me disregard the following: I've only posted a character list twice. (And the second time it was after I was asked) My other posts in this topic have been about the story to my game and the battle system. I even posted the battle formulas I plan on using to calculate damage and chance to hit. Well, I'd choose the characters I posted previously. (Although, I think I'm going to remove Urban Champion and add Ayumi Tachibana. UC would be to similar to Little Mac. Plus it would be fun to go to the Famicom Detective Club world and solve a mystery.) But you gotta decide what's best for your game.

It wasn't directed towards any particular individual. But every other post just seems to be a list of characters people would like to see in a Nintendo RPG, for one reason or another. Only most of the time those reasons aren't shown - so it's just a list. It just seems to be less of a thread about a Nintendo RPG, and more of a thread about listing Nintendo characters. You may notice I've hardly posted in here. That's mainly because I have already posted MY lists in the SSBB thread

I've recently been bored and pondering on something to do, and this board hasn't had much creativity-based discussion, so I figured I'd finally get off my lazt ass and write my ideas for this RPG in this topic. Hope nobody minds my bumping it.
First off I'd like to state that the battle system is the thing that's giving me the most trouble. Ideally I wanted it to be a Strategy RPG, but I thought that would alienate some fans who don't like that style of gameplay.
I learned that shoehorning action bits into it wouldn't be good, as Namco X Capcom tried that, and they basically included all the elements of Strategy games that Action fans don't like, and all the Action elements that Strategy fans don't like, thus creating zero target audience. I also noticed that Namco X Capcom managed to cram in more characters by pairing some of them up into one unit. That kind of reduces the character's stock and potential.
Eventually I decided on a battle system based the ideas that Smashchu discussed in this thread, which involved a mix of Paper Mario, Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy Tactics.
Your characters are on an FE-style grid, you move them to the enemy, they attack the enemy using a PM-style button command. The characters each have a special ability, like in FFT, which is sorta based on Fliptroopa's idea (where the hell is he?).
The items and epuipment all come from the various Nintendo games that are referenced in here (which is saying a lot). There's also appearence by about a hundred characters, both playable and non-playable, along with a couple of original ones.
As for the plot, well I'll summarize it:
You take control of a young gamer who is suddenly sucked into his Wii (don't laugh) and winds up in some sort of trans-dimentional space where he finds a Wii-mote that can turn into a lightsaberish weapon as well as others. Then he enters a Warp Zone that takes him to a city full of old one-off Nintendo characters (which is kinda like Videoland from Captain N) where he meets Prof. Hector. Hector knew about his arrival from the secret council consisting of Mr. Game & Watch, Disk-kun, Sherriff, Mario and a female character whom I haven't thought up a name for yet (she's based on Princess Lana from Captain N). It turns out that your character is really some sort of hero guy who has to save all the worlds of Nintendo from the various villains (yes, I like Tei, have opted to use the villains-band-together bit) who are conspiring to conquer everything by re-awakening NOVA (part of the plot mirrors that of Kirby Super Star, and in my earliest stages of this concept, Kirby was the main character). Thus, your character has to stop them with the help of Nintendo's greatest heroes.
I know parts of it sound like I'm ripping off Kingdom Hearts, but I tried as hard as I could to stay away from that (even though I had plans for Mario to get a role similar to Mickey Mouse in KH). I'd also like to state that the "earliest stage" I mentioned before was actually a comic I was attempting to make back in middle school, in which Dark Matter engulfs all of Nintendo's worlds and Kirby must band together with the heroes to stop it. That story was much more heavily based on SSB, with a plot that borrows from Kirby 64 andKirby Super Star. As you can see, I incorprated that old comic into this RPG's plot.
I haven't even scratched the surface on the plot's entirety, and I have yet to mention the characters ad items and stuff, but I am going to bring this post to close. Tommorow I shall bring you all more fruit from the garden in my brain...

The problems I have wiith those story lines are 1)They are a bit cliched and 2)Can be seen as a marketing ploy, even more if you put Nintendo exect. into the mix.
Now, what do you mean when you said PM battle system?

PM being short for Paper Mario, in which you attack the enemies by executing fancy button presses.
Which parts of the story are cliche? I stated myself that I had to reach into other sources to pull out something good. Also keep in mind that was only a summary. I won't post the interestinf bits until later.

In response to your post, thee cliche part is the "Character X enters Nintendo world". Theres quite a few stories here that deal with that. That, and it reaks of KH. Or, it feels like that.
Also, with how it seems you organized this, a stragatgy RPG doesn't fit. I think Turn based or action fits the bill a bit more, but I'll let you elaborate more and hold my final judgement till then.
Also, how will Nintendo city be set up. A metropolis, a small quant city(Toad Town from PM), or something else. Also, whats your charcacters name.
Also, I think the "Counceil of N" should be a bit underground. Maybe even have an underground base in the towns catacombs. Of course, I assum Miyamoto is part of it.

Based on your descriptions up there, the game seems like it'd be unrealistically huge. Eight whole stages within Hyrule? Hyrule should be an entire stage on it's own! All of Kanto, Johto and Hoenn? That alone is three whole games! It'd be a nightmare to make, and even more of one to play.
I actually came up with ideas for a SSB-based RPG, which I won't share here. It's just something I've been thinking about when I'm bored. But, anyway... The problem yours seems to have is story. I don't see a whole lot, and story is the driving force in an RPG. You need to think more about the story and less about cramming in pointless cameos.

Yeah, I know. Some of these things are kind of hard to avoid, but my biggest inspiration for this was Captain N. The one I origanally did focused on Mario and Link as the main characters, so you can always avoid the X character thing I meant style, like, what would the houses look like, would it just look like a big matropolis, or just a big city in a Toad Town style. Also, is their voice acting or someother sound during speech? Since this is a Strat RPG, each stage consists of a battle of average length. Some of the optional ones have special goals. I guess the term "mission" would've been more appropriate. Still, my intention from the beginning was for this game to be big. Also remember that some areas are visited twice, such Hyrule's case. Also, I'd like to hear your story Kirbychu. I know you made up the Tatics/FE/PM battle system.

Also, I'd like to hear your story Kirbychu. I won't post it here right now, since it's... long, and it's nothing spectacular. But I spent a lot of time avoiding the Captain N/Kingdom Hearts/Last Action Hero-style clichés, and I was pretty pleased with what I ended up with.
