I have never played Yoshi's island, however I've been thinking about getting the game.
Is this the one that uses both screens to display, but has no touch abilities?

Yeah, pretty much.
Some of the new enemies are RUBBISH!

Got this game.
I agree woith Fry. The gameplay is fun, but the sstyle is off. It's no SMW2 though. Its still fun if you care about gameplay more then anything else.
Also, Fry, what enimies are you speaking of.

Finally got the game, I like it, though I found SMW2 more fun, and I hate 4-7 and 5-4 (though I did like the battle with Moltz).

I've got it now too.
As far as Yoshi games go, I'd rank this second best.... but given the competition (Yoshi Story, Topsy Turvy, and Touch & Go) that's not saying a lot. Still, at least Yoshi finally has a decent game since SMW2.
The control layout is hard to adjust to since I'm used to the SNES controls after all these years. The controls also don't feel as tight, but the game is pretty fun even though I'm only on 2-7. Peach and DK's abilities are cool, but it sucks that they made Mario pretty much worthless. Egg bouncing, sure, but red eggs don't even give you stars anymore, which was one of my favorite tricks. The lack of items is a shame too... extra lives are a poor end level bonus, I'll probably end up with more of those than I did in NSMB. Without those 10 and 20 star items (or even the red eggs!), I don't even feel compelled to go for 100 points in each level. I still like exploring the nooks and crannies in the levels though.

I got the game.
Let me start by saying the gameplay is right up there with there with the original. It's gotten pretty challenging, and I'm only up to the second world. I'm a little peeved at the lack of the usable items, and it kinda stinks how you can only run at full speed with Mario, and even then you have to hold a button to do do, but otherwise it does well on it's own. I also found the lack of Poochy and the Bandit Mini-Battles disturbing. These new mini-games don't cut it.
As for the presentation, it does good at capturing the essence of the original in some regards, but fails miserably in others. For example, the menu screens and old enemies all look like beefed up versions of the originals, but certain things like the music and sound effects pretty much suck. They should've taken the original's soundtrack and remixed it. They didn't even have that iconic title screen theme! Also, Fry was right about the new enemies being rubbish. Other little details they should've rightfully included were the fancy colored explosion that happens when you beat a boss and the end-of-stage fanfares. Omitting those kinda bothered me.
So far, I can say that it does well on it's own, but as a sequel, there are some parts missing.

I have a question:
Should I get this game, Mario vs. DK, Pokemon Ranger, or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon?

Well, all three of those games seem better than this from what I've heard...
Personally I'd choose Pokémon Ranger or Mystery Dungeon. Though to be fair, I haven't played any Mario VS DK game yet.

I found Mario vs DK a bity boarng. I did the demo version though. Its like Lemmings so if you like games like that, then your good.
I think sequal fits this game well. Its no where near as good as the original, but like a good sequal, its remains fun and the additions work overall.

I've never played Lemmings. You comand these little guys and have them make there way top the goal. They can destroy objects, mack bridges and more. Its similar in MvDK. You controll the marios and have them get top the goal. They can walk, jump, and I think thats it. There might be more later in the game.

I haven't played much of it, but I found Mystery Dungeon to be boring as hell. Ranger seems like it could be okay as a filler until Pearl and Diamond, but they shouldn't be all that far off, so I guess its up to you if you want to wait. Don't know about Mario vs. DK - I personally thought the 'regular' levels in the original were better than the mini-Mario ones.

I found Mystery Dungeon to be a lot less boring than... well, every other RPG I've played.
Though you really have to get to the point where you can recruit members for your team before the fun really starts to kick in. DAMN YOU, AIPOM, JOIN ME ALREADY!!

I picked up Mystery Dungeon yesterday. It's definitely... boring.
Actually, it's a good idea wrapped around a dull gameplay mechanic. The story is quite catchy, and the idea of rescue teams is fun. Some of the Pokemon characters are wacky (although some of the scripting is abysmal).
But running around the dungeons trying to rescue people should be a lot more fun than this. It's more realtime strategy than action. But that's Chunsoft for you!

I thought much the same - in fact, I'd like to see a much more realtime version of it, where you actually run around and attack the opponents (or attack the environment and use it to your advantage or something).
Basically something that takes the battles from the Pokemon Anime and makes them playable in a large environment (preferibly 3D, I would think, though 2D could work).
