Man, ever since I beat DKR, I felt like nothing could bring me down. It's quite the experience! There is one thing. Try unlocking TT--and then try it again in DKRDS. In the first game, at least, you only need to run each course twice, once to unlock the TT Ghost, then once again to beat the bastard. In DKRDS, you don't have to unlock the ghost but you do have to race and beat him in every vehicle on every course (except for the four new Kongo Junlge-themed ones)! You have to unlock Taj and Wizpig as playable characters to even get close as they're the only two that have decent stats in the hovercraft--which, might I add, is mandatory for each and every race. Of course, yesterday I got TT in the game myself, sooo...*boast, brag*

Hey was Diddy Kong Racing that one Nintendo 64 game? Oh! Did it have Banjo and Kazooie in it?
I remember playing it somewhere. And loving it.

It had Banjo (and Conker) in there first appearances before being spun-off into their own series.
Its also a DS game now (April in Aus I think). But no Banjo or Conker.

It was their first appearance, but it wasn't before they were spun off. It's all very complicated - Twelve Tales: Conker 64 and Banjo-Kazooie had both been announced long before Diddy Kong Racing, but the latter was announced a couple weeks before its release several months later.
I think it's a safe bet that Banjo and Conker were added to DKR after their own games had been announced.

It's more than a safe bet, it's a fact--at least in the States, it is. So Conker acts all innocent and sugary-sweet, since it was before his adult-humor makeover.

Well, yes... but don't forget that the Cancelled Twelve Tales (and the released Pocket Tales) also featured sweet and innocent Conker as well.
DKR actually featured a slightly insane Conker... maybe the start of something!

Sorry to re-rail the topic but I thought i'd provide my insights into Mariokart Arcade GP, I'd been meaning to post this for a while but hadn't gotten around to it. Last year I was fortunate enough to have the chance to play the game in both Australia and Japan whilst travelling ;D. I was really excited about playing it despite some bad reviews and was actually pleasantly suprised. I wasn't expecting to be blown away but my girlfriend and I had a riot playing on verses mode in Timezone (a big australian arcade), in surfers paradise. Arcades are kind of expensive by definition but Timezone offered a promotion which allowed an hour of unlimited play for A$15 so I got a nice introduction. However the machines didn't offer the card save option (as Phil Bond mentioned) so completing the game would be expensive if not impossible. Enter Japan; The MKAGP machines were easier to find for a start, there was usually at least two in every arcade and they were cheaper to play, (generally 100 yen a shot which is less than 50p) but most importantly they all offered the card save function for 200 yen. Unfortunately they were in japanese so it took a while to figure out how to operate the save feature and so I didn't rack up a completed card but I did get several cards printed (with varying designs) as presents for fellow nintendophiles. [see pics] [EDIT = I don't have pictures of the other designs as I didn't take pictures of them before I gave them to my friends, will try to get them to take pictures though, if anyone's interested] Now for some comments about the game: I have been playing mario kart since the snes so while the MKAGP didn't prove difficult I didn't feel like victory was assured (higher difficulties can be unlocked btw). Return of coins is a masterstroke. The use of a steering wheel and pedals is an interesting and enjoyable development for anyone who has been following the series for a while. [New controls = welcome experience] I liked the items which caused the wheel to wobble or twist, it felt like I was physically experiencing the effects of items. The only problem I really had with it (other than the expense) was that the number of tracks was too few but there are plenty of things to unlock so there is some longevity. Basically I enjoyed it a lot and I think anyone would so long as their expectations weren't too high. If you want more information on the game itself check out the wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart_Arcade_GP[/babble]

Gah, and yet the chances of me ever seeing one of these is slim to none! I'm pretty sure the UK arcade industry is around 150% more dead than even the US industry. Or maybe I just have to travel the hour to London or hour and a half to Brighton. Meh. Too much hassle.

I live by a seaside city with a beachfront made up entirely of arcades and bars... but a two hour walk along there yielded no Mario Kart Arcade or (more importantly) F-Zero AX machines. I was sad that day.

F-Zero AX machines seem to be quite difficult to come by, I didn't see any on my travels, I guess they just aren't popular or profitable enough in most places, the lion-share of most japanese arcades was made up of pachinko machines, but they blended them with various video game flavours to help standard arcade gamers get addicted, for example: Mario Party pachinko sliding coin tray machine of joy! Sorry about the quality of the picture, it was a popular machine and people were staring at me funny.

That's awesome! Shame you didn't get more of the Bowser figure on top in... it looks cool. Damn, now I want to go visit Japan.

I'll admit I thought the game had potential if only the card system had been active. Its absence filled me with resentment.

That's awesome! Shame you didn't get more of the Bowser figure on top in... it looks cool. Yeah, it's not the best picture as I'm not the best photographer! It was a large, six sided affair so six people could play at once and their progress affected that of other players. There were lots of cool multi-player games like this and single player new super mario bros. style pachinko machines. I should have taken more pictures but by that point in my travels it wasn't the first thing on my mind. plus there's so much absorb in japan, if you took pictures of everything cool you'd never do anything! Damn, now I want to go visit Japan. You mean you didn't before? Lunatic!

The sequel that's coming out, or may already be out in Japan, tosses in Waluigi and a Tamagotchi. It also includes really ridiculous items times ten, including the carrot from Mario Land 2 But the coolest thing? Color commentary. They hired a guy to do commentary on the race live and in-game. That's... kinda awesome
