But how do you prevent players from fighting groups of Pokemon smaller than their team? Even if they aren't doing that, it would still look wierd to see gang trainers running around KOing dozens of Pokemon. Isn't that what happens in the games anyway, though? In DP, if you encounter a wild Pokémon while you're travelling with someone, two wild Pokémon will appear, and you'll face them in a double battle. I don't see why it couldn't just be like that. I think we might be talking about different battle systems. Are you saying you want Random Turn-Based Battles like in the other games? I assumed we were talking about Real-Time Battles with Pokemon spawning and running around in the actual game world, like most MMOs have(Including WoW). When a trainer enters a battle would they just stand there? How big could teams be? I know City of Heroes allowed eight, and WoW has...six? Turn-Based with 5 trainers and 5 wild Pokemon would move really slow. If I'm misunderstanding, could you please explain how you think battles would play out?

Firstly, a MMO Pikmin would rock the house. Secondly, so would a MMO Platformer or other bizarre not-usually-a-MMO playable genre. Balloon Duel for Flash, anyone? Thirdly, there was a long worked on but ultimately shut down attempt at a MMO Pokemon game by Bulbagarden some years back. I remember because I sat there patiently reading every bit I could find on it The way they had envisioned the online battle system was that players couldn't fight each other unless they requested a battle--like Dueling in WoW. You don't fight Alliance members if you're Alliance, unless you Duel. And even then it's just play. It only earns you street cred. As far as wild Pokemon, they were run into in the typical fashion, 1 trainer vs. 1 Pokemon. Tho if they did make a MMOPokemon for real, I'd prefer it be real time, and anybody can jump in to fight, but only the original person who fought it gets dibs on catching (again, like WoW's Loot system). If you form joint parties with other trainers, then Loot can be shared amongst the party (and in this fashion, Pokemon are able to be caught by anybody). I guess there could be some level balancing, so that if four trainers gang up on one measly Zigzagoon, the thing can gain a few levels when you face it so it has a standing chance.

I don't think Pokémon would work at all played out like all the other MMORPGs. It'd make Trainers out to look like bullies ganging up on innocent animals, which I highly doubt is something Nintendo wants. Like I said before, I think it'd work out best played exactly like the main series, only without NPC trainers, and with a world full of PC trainers instead. When a battle starts, you'd move into a Stadium/Colosseum-style arena. It wouldn't be too difficult for players outside the battle to see your character with your Pokémon standing in front of you and the wild Pokémon standing opposite, and perhaps a PokéBall above your head to signify the fact that you're in battle. Seeing what Pokémon other trainers are facing could help give an idea of what's in the area, too. Something else that I'd love, not just in this, but in any Pokémon game, is seasons. Weather conditions could change, and certain Pokémon would appear more frequently at certain times of year. For example, during Winter, Snorunt would appear around mountain areas, but in Summer they'd only appear in caves. And the opposite for Teddiursa. Perhaps on Halloween night, Ghost Pokémon would appear all over the place.

To be "massive" it would have to allow more interaction among players(And probably require a monthly fee). Large teams, epic fights againsts huge monsters, being able to help a trainer in trouble and other stuff like that would be hard to include without changing the Pokemon battle system. But just making a simple online world out of the Pokemon games would mean there wouldn't be any need for a monthly fee(And I think Nintendo would prefer it that way).

Large teams, epic fights againsts huge monsters, being able to help a trainer in trouble and other stuff like that would be hard to include without changing the Pokemon battle system. An MMORPG is just an online RPG where many characters interact with each other. And it would still involve a massive amount of player interaction. Battling, trading items and Pokémon, competing in contests... there's a wealth of stuff already available. As for helping trainers, you could pair up with a weaker trainer to help them through double battles, or join in with any Trainer battles you see going on, turning them into double battles - both features introduced in Emerald. The thing is, in Pokémon a large team is already encompassed in one character. Two players travelling together is actually a team of 12 characters, each possessing their own skills and abilities. So a team of, say, eight trainers travelling together, fighting singular Pokémon? It doesn't sound like there'd be any challenge in it, unless all the Pokémon stats are drastically changed. And we all know that ain't gonna happen.

Well, maybe you form parties like you would Double Battles, so that you team up with 3 and 3? Or 3 trainers with 2 each? If it got any higher than that, it would get insane But who is to say that the format of the Pokemon gameplay couldn't change. Maybe your main monster follows you, and so each trainer only has one that attacks in real time as you send it out? And then you switch it between the six you have on you, but at a great cost to time? Maybe your trainer theirself can get damaged?

1. The Wii isn't powerfull enough to handle a MMORPG. 2. MMORPG's are boring and repetive games that are only about wasting your time killing monsters so you can level up really slow. I Wouldn't even want a Wii MMO.

Don't like the topic at hand? Don't post in it.\\
Anyone have any thoughts pertaining to my MMO Platformer idea? It's seems kinda bare-bones at the moment.

I Wouldn't even want a Wii MMO. 1)FF11 was an MMO on the PS2. I'm sure the Wii could handle one 2)Some of use like to widdle our lives away on a game. Addicting games are the best.

I actually had a great idea for a MMO Platformer just today. Ever play the Kirby GBA games multiplayer? Amazing Mirror was awesome with four players. Now... imagine that, but with dozens of players, in a massive, massive world. I think the mix and match gameplay of Kirby, with the treasure hunting and puzzle elements, and the fact that it makes sense for everyone to play as Kirby ( ).. that all would warrant itself really well to a MMO Platformer. In that respect, a Metroid game would be awesome like that too...

I guess Mario, Kirby and Metroid would be the perfect candidates for an MMO platformer, then.

1) Forget FF11 on the PS2. How about Phantasy Star Online on the technically inferior Gamecube and Dreamcast. 2)Just because all the ones out there are like that doesn't this one will be too. I can imagine people dueling to become champion, setting up their own gym, and working solely as breeders, rangers, or scientists.
I agree with the comments above about party size. They'd have to limit you to one Pokemon and allow a larger party size, make you be a Pokemon like in Mystery Dungeon, or limit party size to like two characters.
As for a platforming game, I can imagine that happening. Sort of like the old "Marionette" concept. I imagine that you'd have drills in the different aspects of platforming. You have speed(Time Limit), power(Battle Enemies), and technique(Just Make It Through). I could see that.

Orcs? I will smite you with the totem of my tribe, Alliance fanboy! For the Horde!
THis is actually one of WoW's problems, but only on Player versus Player servers (on other servers it's impossible.)
