Didn't see a thread for it, so I thought I'd make one.
Hotel Dusk is not your typical game. It works more like a well-paced mystery novel...but instead of merely reading it, you're a character in it. You play as Kyle Hyde, an ex-cop looking for his long-lost partner...who turned over the results of his investigation to the mob, betraying Hyde and the NYPD. Hyde tracked him down and shot him, but he disappeared into the Hudson River and hasn't been seen since. Hyde resigned from the force after that and now is a traveling salesman (who is usually hung over), doing odd jobs for his employer. He gets a new job that sends him to Hotel Dusk, where a lot of mystery lies...
I don't want to ruin the plot, because it's quite good.
Anyway, the gameplay is well thought out so far (I'm in the middle of Ch. 2). You hold the DS sideways, and use the touch screen to move around, examine things and solve puzzles. So far, I haven't had any issues with the control scheme. The graphic style is awesome. Imagine a-ha's Take On Me video, and you'll have a good idea how the awesome artwork animates. It's really awesome. The music is decent, but nothing has really caught my ear in delight yet. The game's narrative is superbly written, and the characterization is really good. I may go as far to say that it's among the best I've seen in a game yet. And it's not your stereotypical "Nintendo-kiddy" fare either. Hyde swears an awful lot, and you can pick up a nudie mag (but you can't flip through it ) as an item. I'm really, really enjoying it so far (as is my fiance, who took over my DS promptly once she got into the game...so I've had to play it when she's asleep or gone ) and I recommend picking it up.
