Personally, I'm going to wait until I've played the first one before I pass judgement on whether this is a good or bad idea.

The only problem with the look of Super Mario RPG is that it was done in a shoddy mid-90's CGI sprite style - subpar to even Donkey Kong Country, released earlier. But if they were "drawn in Mario style" rather than CGI rendered, I struggle to think of one enemy in the game who wouldn't fit into the universe (not including Culex, of course). All of the above look like Mario enemies to me - chunky and slightly wacky looking. Every one of the Mario RPGs has thrown in some enemies that don't look like they would fit into the universe. Super Paper Mario was possibly the worst culprit of the lot. But the game didn't feel medieval, it didn't feel out-of-place, the enemies looked like Mario enemies to me... Mallow was an SMB cloud who thought he was a frog (weird and hilarious), while Geno was a living doll protecting the Star Road, which was pretty cool. And at least it tried to create new characters rather than relying heavily on the old ones. And it was the first time we saw Mario's house!

Mario Rmades pretty unmarioishto me too, Why turn the “?“ blocks into floating chest? Why changing the spinies? why the Mushroom people doesn't live in Mushroom houses? why no Koopa Troopas? and Why there are waaay more original Character/enemies than the traditional stuff? Thats why I always preferred Paper Mario and Mario&Luigi Games, those where Mario games with some RPG elements thrown in, while Mario RPG is an Square RPG with some Mario Characters thrown in. But Since Intelligent Systems has started to deviate from the familiar Mario stuff in their games(since Paper Mario 2 don't blame everything to SPM) and going the route of Super Mario RPG, I am whiling to give Square Enix another chance with a Mario RPG, as long as this time they actually use a lot of Mario Stuff from the core series, and everything Final Fantasy its from Final Fantasy IV and below (and yes I'm talking about Number 4 not 7, Final Fantasy V and VI also had lot of that wouldn't fit in the Mario universe, as much as i love Terra) Also Super Mario RPG started many of the bad trends of the Mario Games... 1)Bowser started here to lose his villainies (it was fine in Mario RPG, but now I cant hardly see Bowser as a real treat) 2)No Koopalings, it all started here (Yoshi's Island had the excuse of taking place in the past) 3)Mario collecting stars, yes it began here... 5)Almost No Luigi in the game at all (unforgivable ) 6)Enemies being good guys (Moustruo Town) then IS went crazy with that. 7)Bowser kidnapping the princess and making it look as a cliched plot (back in those days only SMB and SMW had that plot device against SMB2,SMB3,SML,SML2,YI, so as you see it wasn't the chiche of Mario Games back then) Well, at least they made “ the Toad“ a character and not a generic species (thats to blame you IS )

I dunno what the hell most of you guys are talking about. Koopa Troopas may not have been in the game directly, but Mario got several Koopa Shell weapons--the first one he gets is the Noknok Shell, and Koopa Troopa's Japanese name is 'Nokonoko.' Not to mention there was that brigade of Paratroopas you had to painstakingly jump across using SMRPG's awkward isometric angle in Monstro Town.
EDIT: Got rid of the rant. I need to sit down and pound out my feelings on this game when I have time to think properly.

Hopefully, this won't be like Kingdom Hearts too much...I don't think Cloud will make an appearance...count on Moogles, tho.

Also Super Mario RPG started many of the bad trends of the Mario Games... 1)Bowser started here to lose his villainies (it was fine in Mario RPG, but now I cant hardly see Bowser as a real treat)Yeah I know what you mean but Galaxy is starting to take that back. 2)No Koopalings, it all started here (Yoshi's Island had the excuse of taking place in the past) Well M64 was being developed at the same time and it has no koopalings either. I really didn't care one way or the other about them anyway. 3)Mario collecting stars, yes it began here... I can't really see this as being something bad. Reminder the only games that Mario Collects stars in are MRPG M64 MSun PM2 M&LPiT and Galaxy 5)Almost No Luigi in the game at all (unforgivable ) I hear you man. Luigi's making a comeback though. Err. Wheres 4? 6)Enemies being good guys (Moustruo Town) then IT went crazy with that. I don't see whats wrong with characters of normally enemy races being good guys and how Exactly did it go Crazy with that? MRPG, PM and PM2 are the on;y games that come to mind where enemies are good guys. 7)Bowser kidnapping the princess and making it look as a cliched plot (back in those days only SMB and SMW had that plot device against SMB2,SMB3,SML,SML2,YI, so as you see it wasn't the chiche of Mario Games back then)
SMB2(jp) did have Peach getting captured. SMUSA is arguably the most non-mario mario game. SM64 Bowser could not have cared less about kidnapping Peach he was purely after the power stars. PM2 Bowser never kidnapped Peach. It's not that cliched.

That was an April Fool's joke. 41 characters, 4-1, April 1st.

Yeah, it was run by EGM, the same people who brought of news of the iGame, the Twilight Princess style remake of The Wind Waker, and the fact that Sonic was in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

But what we saw in EGM was entirely different than the rumor discussed here.

They're called monsters for a reason. This was around the time of 1993 the game was started, I believe. They had many FF inspired enemies. Flying carrots and insect artichokes.
I doubt this is true. If it is I'm very excited, Geno is one of my favorite Mario characters... next to Luigi and Mario.
Golden Sun sounds too fake, I fail to believe it.
*Waits for rumors on sequels to Tomato Adventure and Stafy*

Donkey Kong was technically a "rescue the princess" - even though Pauline wasn't a princess. Then Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan), Super Mario Bros. 3 (after World 7), Super Mario Land, Super Mario World... that is nearly every Mario adventure between his creation and Super Mario RPG. If anything, SMRPG threw convention out of the window by having the princess capture being a temporary problem at the start of the game, and then having her join your team.
It isn't perfect, but it did introduce the Action Commands into RPG battles, which every Mario RPG has used since. A selection of enemies have appeared in later games (namely the bee appeared in Super Mario Ball, and the shaman enemy pretty much makes up 80% of the cast of the Paper Mario games).

Okay, time to pound this out.
I'm not that excited about this--I'm actually kind of hesitant , as much as I want to see Mallow or Geno come back. Square-Enix, in my opinion, haven't done anything good since Mario RPG--and I'm afraid that their metaphor diarrhea will seep into a sequel of the game. I mean, I have no issue with metaphor in its own, it's kind of a standard for video games nowadays, but Squenix abuses the concept so much that it's almost like they can't hold it in--hence "metaphor diarrhea." Nintendo games, even with metaphor, make sense...Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games, on the other hand, make absolutely no sense because everything in it is supposed to be a metaphor for something that may or may not be comprehensible or even relative to what's being conveyed.
I'm also not looking forward to CloudSephirothAerisSquallAuronWhoever Angst. Seriously. I don't want that in my Mario game. It can GTFO my plane of existance.
