Hello everyone! I really hope one of you can help me. I have been racking my brain for some time now trying to find this game i played alot when i was a kid. It was a nes space strategy sort. You would scan planets and look for resources like differnt type of minerals then you would fly down and go around the map mining for them or gettting them the minerals were worth all different amounts (antimony, silver, titanium, ect.)
thats about all i can remember about the game i wish i could remember the name
hope you can help.

I'm going to throw some names out there and see if any of them stick (I love this sort of question!) ;D 1. The Adventures of Rad Gravity 2. Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum 3. Moon Ranger 4. Solar Jetman: Hunt for the Golden Warpship I'll see how you get on with those for now. It might have a less obvious name, but those ones seem the most likely "fly between planets and land on them" candidates for now. Good luck! If it's not one of them, let us know and we'll go more in-depth for you. It also sounds a little like Captain Blood, an Amiga game I used to play when I was much younger - before Nintendo monopolised my attention

You may also be thinking of M.U.L.E. or Elite. It's probably not Elite, though.

Because that's kind of what this site is good for.

Yeah, because we're awesome. But now my curiosity is running wild. Did we get this one? Oooh, let us know if we did Gatfly. If we didn't, we'll look harder

Thank you all for all your help. Unfortunalely those ones that you mentioned are not it Do you have any other ideas? cant remember that much only that you would go to different planets land get out a little buggy and collect minerals such as zinc copper antimony ect. I think there was a sesor read out on different planets as well but cant remember. I am pretty sure it was nes not super nes though it has been a long time.

Wow, this is a tough one. I just went through Moby Games and didn't find anything like what you're looking for. I checked NES, SNES, Sega Master System and Genesis/Mega Drive games. They're not NES or SNES games, but could you be thinking of Star Control II or Starflight?

I'm sure we'll get it in the end. We're persistant buggers like that, y'see! One other question that will help: where in the world are you located? America? Europe? Japan? All of this will help us narrow it down.

My search also turned up StarFlight (though, as Corey said, it's not an NES game).

All right, I am fairly certain now that it is, in fact, Star Control II. It was not an NES or SNES game. It was only available for PC and 3DO. The good news is that in 2002, the creators of the game released the source code for the 3DO version so that fans could port it to modern PCs. That project is now The Ur-quan Masters (since the name "Star Control II" is still under copyright), and you can legally download and play the game on your PC. In fact, that's what I just did, and I scanned planets and mined minerals just as you described. So definitely check this out. I think it's what you're looking for. Incidentely, the developers, Toys For Bob, is currently working on Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam for the Wii, and Pual Reiche is trying to drum up interest for his publisher, Activision, to let them make a new Star Control game. EDIT: Apparently, the original Star Control was also on the Genesis/Mega Drive. I'm not sure how similar it is to the sequel, but it's another possibility.

sorry for the late post i thought i had my settings confiugred to email me when there was a reply.
Thanks! Xeno82, Cory, Fryguy Saim. It was starflight!!!! If i could by you all a beer or something to your beverage liking i would!
What a killer game that was OMG, i cant remembered when i owned a genisis but i think i did for a little amount of time.
When you mentioned Star Control 2 Urquan Masters... that is when i was searching for it a year ago and the closest thing i coul find was starcontrol 2 it had some similarities but it wasnt the real one! i was instantly put back into the early 90's when i saw the screenshots of it on Moby's, Wow! I have not tried starflight 2 or the pc version tho alot of people swear by it. i dl the genisis emalator and found the rom as well too sweet i also found shadow Run which was a game i played back then.
BTW what is your #1 game back in the day?
Thanks again i would still be going nuts if it werent for you my sanity has returned!!!!!!!!

Congratulation everybody! That's a wrap!! My favourite game back in the day was SMB (followed by SMB3 when that came out). But I did play a ton of games that I've since forgotten and then rediscovered. I played Amiga and PC games way back when before I got my own NES. That's a limitless source for nostalgic fun.

Well, I was pretty close. Actually, the interesting thing is that I was closer than I thought when I mentioned Elite. It's basically the grandfather of the space exploration genre which Starflight, Star Control II and Wing Commander: Privateer are all derived from.
Fav game "back in the day?" Super Mario Bros. 3 on NES, hands down. There was a certain magic to gaming back in the late 80s-early 90s. Maybe I'm just jaded, now.

Super Mario Bros. and Contra were two of my earliest favorites. Contra was the first game I ever beat. It's funny how hard I thought they were back in the day. Now I can fly through both of them with little to no difficulty
