This is more of a game mechanic than a cameo, but when you throw a Red Shell, it homes in on the nearest enemy automatically. Red Shells never did this in any main Mario game previous to Galaxy, and are more known for this trait in the Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers games.
Cameo or not? I guess that's up to Fry. But it's still kind of neat that something from spin-off games made it into the mainstream Marioverse.

Cameo spotted! A bit of rock in the space junk galaxy looks an aweful lot like a Snes cartridge in my opinion.
On the spider boss star, its the rock just before the rocket ship. It's rectangular, and has those stripedy marks down the side that made me think it looks like a games cartridge.

Yes, that would be the American cartridge. The Super Famicom and European SNES have completely different hardware, leading me to believe cameos like this aren't cameos at all.

Did anyone else notice the fountains in the Beehive Galaxy are shaped like FLUDD's nozzle?

Mario's [secret]Rats Der[/secret] costume colors are black overalls and red shirt. Much like the SMB3 sprites.

Easter Egg Spotted!
I don't believe the game ever tells you this or the Instruction booklet but if you jump spin and press [z] at the same time Mario (or that other guy) will perform a homing ground pound.

Sorry to keep modifying the post on you. I just felt that the pic, though funny, was a little gruesome for this thread without a link.
