I think there's already a thread for this a few pages down, but sometimes reviving old topics is frowned upon. Besides, it needs a proper update. I'm really looking forward to this game (I've got it pre-ordered!), and I heard some interesting news today that I thought I'd share. But first, in case you haven't heard, earlier this month, it was announced that Metal Slug 6 (which was released into arcades earlier this year) will, in fact, be included in the collection. So it'll have all seven arcade games (1, 2, X, 3, 4, 5, and 6)! Now, today I finally found out about its control scheme. As it turns out, you'll be able to select one of six different options. Five involve the motion sensing abilities. Three use the remote-nunchuck combination, two us the remote by itself, and the last is to simply use a Gamecube controller. Oddly, there's no mention of the retro controller. Here's the article, which includes a video showing the different methods being used. Is it weird that I'm looking forward to this game more than Red Steel, Tony Hawk, or Rayman?

First you're not weird. Metal Slug series rocks.
And if I know there's something that lets you play all 7 games on Wii, I'll probably go for it! This game absolutely rocks. Period.

It might be weird if you consider that one major selling point of the Wii is to experience new ways to play games, while the one you're looking forward to most is an anthology of old games.
But it's the good kind of weird. Although I really want to find out more about Rayman and Red Steel before I commit myself to anything.
I'll get Zelda on day 1, and then ask for some others for Christmas. Yay!

That's what I was talking about. But as YL said, Metal Slug rocks, and it's good to see the Wii handle traditional games as well as the more unique offerings. But another reason I'm picking it up so early is the issue of availability. Most of Nintendo's games will likely be easy to find even years after they've been released, and games like Red Steel, Tony Hawk, et al, should still be available well into next year. But in my experience, SNK games seem to have a much shorter shelf life. For example, I picked up Metal Slug Advance for the GBA as soon as it came out, and about a month later, it was already getting rare. Since the Anthology is definitely a game I'm interested in, I'll try to save myself a possible headache later on by picking it up early, even if it isn't an obvious choice.

I think Advance didn't have a long life because it isn't well-received. As for MS6, it's still showing around at game stores here... let's see how long can it last for!

Well, Metal Slug fans complain about about MS Advance, but it got pretty good reviews when it was released. I thought it was pretty good, but it definitely had a different appeal from the arcade games. It was more about collecting the cards and prisoners than survival, and it doesn't have a scoring system.
I think the real reason is that, here in the US, SNK only appeals to a niche market, and games like Metal Slug and King of Fighters merely have cult followings. So once the initial production run ends, and all the fans have snapped up most of the copies of the games, SNK lets them go out of print.
Incidentally, what's the general consensus about Metal Slug 6? I know fans love the first four games (including X), and MS4 & 5 were considered bland and sloppy, but I haven't heard much about 6. It looks cool, having been made for Sammy's Atomiswave arcade board, as well as including the Ikari Warriors and individual abilities for each character. Do fans consider it better than 4 & 5?

I've never played Metal Slug 6 but when I saw the screenshots I was really quite disappointed. The series is famous for its gorgeous pixel art graphics (well, in the pixel art scene at least) but this new installment seems to have switched to non-pixeled CG backgrounds. I'm sure I'll enjoy playing it, but I really don't like how this game looks.

I remember playing at least one of the Metal Slugs at an arcade. It sounds like a great series that I've missed out on, so I'll probably buy it.
