Oy, vey, you guys. XD Let's aim the "No Pants Cannon" somewhere else, if you're all gonna be snotty about it. Big lawl Anyways, I just think Mallow would fit better. He's unique in that he's stretchy...I just think that'd work better... Don't forget he wears pants.

When you get down to it, who the hell else is there from the Mario camp to pick from? Like... seriously?
Bowser Jr. Geno Mallow
And... that's pretty much it. They could do something awesome and really out of left field (Wart, Koopaling Team, Goomba, etc.) but likely those are the only three you can come up with that make sense, right? I mean, they're not too weird. They have games to pull from and fanbases, right?
I think the biggest argument against Geno is that he's not popular enough or he was only from one game. But if you were to do a search online amidst the Mario community (and I know this is something I argued against earlier so this is gonna bite me in the ass), you would see that there's a whole slew of people who love the character. The fanart, fangames, fanfiction, and general hubbub is all in agreement that Mario RPG was a really good game. It doesn't compare to the Paper Mario or M&L games, in my opinion, but Mario RPG has a large and loyal fanbase. And Geno was easily the most memorable character from that game. It's not just that he uses guns or that he's "a badass with a cape" or anything like that--it's the whole package. I mean, where else in the Mario Universe can you find a mage-type character, no less a talking puppet. He was fresh, cool, and very welcome to the Marioverse. I'm not gonna lie (as if it weren't obvious already), but I am a huge fan of Geno. The character's got spunk that a lot of newer Mario fans even would clamor around if they ever got to play the game or see him in action.
It was 11 years ago, guys. And the game is still talked about. It was overshadowed by Mario 64 which came out in the same year, but the game has withstood the test of time. It's a legend in PAL-Land, and US gamers are dying to get it on the Virtual Console. Nintendo keeps taunting us with references to it here and there, and the Japanese requested Mario RPG content a buttload on Sakurai's Brawl Poll. Not just Geno himself, but music and stages and items. Mallow even popped up on there. Maybe even Croco. Can we say the same of a lot of games? It never got its rightful sequel and it's still being played consistently today. Paper Mario was pumped to hell and now nobody ever really goes back to play it again (granted, there's a sequel that's far superior, but the point stands). Mario and Luigi was great, but the sequel sucked. And here's a game that has yet to even get a sequel and most people agree it's awesome. I think Mario RPG deserves a chance. The only reason Ice Climbers got in was because Sakurai wanted to give the classic Famicom some gametime, right? Who are we to say Mario RPG doesn't also deserve some recognition, with Geno being the most popular character from the game getting the coveted (and now vacant) 5th Mario character slot?
Yes, I mentioned Bowser Jr. earlier. And Mallow. But really, who would you rather have? The Koopaling replacement? The manically depressed frog spawn cloud thing? Or a character who would represent a piece of Nintendo and Mario history and do it WELL? Geno was the most memorable part of Mario RPG, and there's a reason so many people want him in the game.
Besides. Square isn't doing anything with that property. Might as well fork it over to Nintendo. And with Geno being a Mario character, it can be completely in-secret without the need for a big reveal (which would've been required of Mega Man as it were Sonic, Snake, etc.). What a trip that would be, to unlock Geno in Subspace Emissary. I'd probably crap my pants. And I hope you guys would too. Please. Crap your pants for Geno. He can't do it himself.

When you get down to it, who the hell else is there from the Mario camp to pick from? Like... seriously? Bowser Jr. Geno Mallow And... that's pretty much it. Oh... you've GOT to be kidding me. If we were making a Mario 'chain of command', it would go Bowser Jr, Waluigi, Daisy, blah blah blah casts of various characters that appear in all of the sports games, reoccuring characters (like, hell, the Koopalings or something), enemies, etc..... and only then would you hit 'one time characters'.... of which there are soooooooooo fucking many. Everything from Pauline and DK Jr (who would be quite interesting, and much more representative of 'old school' Mario, through to Rosalina and the various bosses from Mario galaxy. Yes, Geno appeared in one game 11 years ago that is still being talked about in select circles. Guess what? So is every single game. It seems more popular than it is because no PAL regioner has gotten to play it (legally), and US gamers haven't gotten to play it again for ages, unlike so many re-released Mario games. Yes, theres a group of Mario fans that find Geno awesome. Thats great. Lets include every fucking character a group of internet morons finds important. I can't wait to play as shit like Cream the Rabbit. He's an extremely unimportant character with no notable redeeming qualities (wow he's a final fantasy-esque mage.... why not get an ACTUAL FINAL FANTASY MAGE, which would bring Squeenix and FF fanboys over to Smash. Geno wont do that). Geno sucks. Keep him away.

Really, if Square got a hand in this, I'd rather they use the opportunity to make one of their own retro characters like a Black Mage playable instead of a Mario character. Oh, and depressed clouds that think they're frogs with weather powers > puppets with generic "badass" personalities and generic lazor guns. Also, I think the only reason SMRPG is so fawned over is because it's the only Mario role-player without a sequel.

MEGAMAN DECONFIRMED! NOOOOOO! My friend told me on Monday this. Monday was before the broadcast.
Me: Megaman is going to be in Brawl...what do you think?
Him: He won't be in Brawl. BUT C. Olimar and Bomberman will.
Me: Yeh right.
Him: Next third party will be reveled next Monday.
Me: If there is a third party on Monday I will believe you...but if not I won't believe any stuff you say.
So my friend got the MegaMan thing right...even though Megaman can be in Brawl...so he got it half right. I hope that isn't true. Thought C. Olimar and Bomberman would still be cool. But anyway he has tonight to prove himself.

Everything from Pauline and DK Jr (who would be quite interesting, and much more representative of 'old school' Mario, through to Rosalina and the various bosses from Mario galaxy. Waluigi is an assist trophy so that really blows the chain out of the water. There is no special map of the Mario franchise. There are only a few major characters from the franchise:Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser, and they are all in Smash. After that, the lines get really blurred. Daisy and Waluigi both have just become filler characters. Oh sure, Daisy was a main character once, but now she's just another Mario character in a sea of Mario characters. Super Mario RPG is perhaps the most popular of all the Mario RPGs. It was a traditional RPG though and though but added the fun and flare that comes with a Mario title. It is truly the best of both worlds and this is why fans love it. It is a much loved game and beats out the other Mario RPG for the fanboys love. Not only that, but SMRPG sold 2.14million units world wide. The next closest Paper Mario game was the second one at 1.95million. And let's not forget that SMRPG was only released in two regions, where PM2 was released in Europe as well. Geno does have more personality then you give him credit for. He stands out in the sea of Mario characters. He is the only serious one of the bunch. He was a change of pace. A serious and dutiful character amongst a bunch of wacky characters. He may have been cliche, but that's only becuase of now. Back then, bad ass was not a chiche. He does stand a chance, and at this moment, has a better chance then Megaman. He could still be left out (due to copyright issues) but he does stand a chance of getting in.

Woah, woah... My list was taking into consideration the fact that Waluigi and Daisy got the axe. Beyond those two, with whatever arguments you would make that they should be in the game, there lies the three I pointed out. I'm sorry, but the list of Mario "potentials" isn't exactly huge. Remember guys, "if you give a mouse a cookie." Once they let in a character like Daisy, that opens the door for other "clonish" characters once more. And I think Sakurai wants to avoid that. Geno really is original, and I don't see why everyone is so bitter about the idea of him being in the game. Held over resentment towards Square, maybe? I was the same way. Until I actually sat down and played Mario RPG the whole way through, and not just a snippet here and there. It was amazing.
I'm sorry, but I can't see why we, the fanbase, have to be so divided on what games were "quality" and what games weren't, and get in a huff when Sakurai picks certain things over others. It's a game. It's not that serious. I'm just arguing my own reasoning as to why we will likely, or at least SHOULD likely see, Geno in the game. That's all. I'm not going to explode if he's in or if he isn't. He just will be or won't be. That's all.
Maybe Fry was right, in that General Board post. People need to stop taking this stuff so seriously. It's a game. We can't predict what's going to be in or get upset over what ends up included in the package. We enjoy it because that's what we are: gamers. Mega Man's not in. That does sting. And if Geno's in, that may sting for some of you out there. But we suck it up. We got over Sonic and Snake. Most people are now looking forward to Pokemon Trainer. So give it a shot. Be happy for WHATEVER ends up in this game. It's wizzleing Smash Bros., for Chrissake. No matter who ends up in the game, you know they're going to be fun.

Everything from Pauline and DK Jr (who would be quite interesting, and much more representative of 'old school' Mario, through to Rosalina and the various bosses from Mario galaxy. Dude, besides generic allies and villians, we pretty much HAVE the entire roster for the Mario Sports games, save a REAL Daisy (As opposed to a costume change of Peach's), Bowser Jr, and the Baby Mario Bros, who are Yoshi characters and far down my personal list of playable characters. Waluigi is an Assist Trophy, which suits the guy as he only appears in Sports and Party games. Petey Pirahna is the first boss of Subspace Emissary which suits him as he was the first boss in Sunshine. No one wants the generic enemies playable except maybe Toad, who is doomed to be Peach's Meat Shield. As for other recurring characters besides them, only the SMB3 Koopalings have recurred recently and have the abilities to fight in Smash, but Bowser Jr can handle that just fine and not waste 6 player spots. Pauline and Rosaline do NOT. Captain Syrup's Last Appearence was in Wario Land 2 and is technically a Wario Character. Tatanga's last appearence was in Super Mario Land 2 DK Jr. would be a clone of DK AND would be a DK Character, and if I wanted a clone, I'd rather keep Dr. Mario. And I can't think of anyone else besides Fawful, who made a cameo appearence in Partners in Time, just like Geno made a cameo appearence in Superstar Saga. Everyone else who isn't from the Yoshi, Wario, or DK continuity, is a one-shot. Face it guy... Out of all the characters who are from the Super Mario Series (i.e. Fighting under the Mushroom Icon), it's pretty much Bowser Jr or Geno who is going to be a Playable Character. Oh, and there is only one Final Fantasy character who would be able to sell Brawl to Final Fantasy Fans, and you know goddamn well who HE is

Yeah it's just that I'd rather have that brat Bowser Jr. then Geno if they're going for another Mario character. Actually there are already plenty of Mario characters so new playables from different franchises instead would be even better. It's Smash Brothers not Super Mario Brothers Smash afterall. But I do see him showing up as the 'who the fuck' character. Very few people actually know about the guy, it just seems like a lot when checking them smash forums. Hope he doesn't end up taking Takamaru's 'who the fuck' spot (like there is any) Also I'm the kind of guy who dislikes stupid character ideas until Sakurai actually throws them in. Generic Pokemon Trainer pissed me off at first, but I think he's a pretty rad addition now. So I'm bitching about Geno now until he's presented on the site. Same with the likely playable Olimar and Krystal, if Sakurai adds them in it's great because Sakurai just makes these things work ::buttkiss:: Anyway this whole derailing about Geno was because of me saying he looks dumb and all so sorry about that Let's just go back to being sad about blue bomberless Brawl...

In my honest opinion, that fifth Mario character spot should go to Toad. He could use mushroom-based moves like throwing Poison Mushrooms at his foes to shrink them (standard special), eating Super Mushrooms to get bigger (down special), and spraying spores at foes to turn them into mushrooms a la SMRPG (side special). Basically his speciality would be to make the match turn in his favor since he's a small, light, and weak fighter (he's very speedy). Bring in his charged super jumps for his up special and his ability to carry his foes around like DK's forward throw from SMB2 and he turns into a fairly decent fighter.
Second choice would be Bowser Jr. with the down special move to transform into Shadow Mario.
Okay, so Mega Man is not playable.. Well, that's one less third-party character and one more Nintendo character in Brawl. That's something.

Ugh. I would hate to see Toad as a playable character.
Anyways, Bowser Jr. is the next Mario character. There will be no more third parties. And I have no doubt about it.

I agree with Arcadenik. It could have been Toad if Peach had never gotten that Standard Special Move. Also, Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Mario's Down Special Move - Delfino Plaza = Bowser Jr. + Shadow Mario
I still think there could be one more non-Nintendo character they haven't revealed. There are more companies that have been close to Nintendo.

Also, Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Mario's Down Special Move - Delfino Plaza = Bowser Jr. + Shadow Mario Just becuase iof Sunshine stuff in the game doesn't mean Bowser Jr. is upright in. Bowser Jr. wasn't on the poll at all so it hurts his chances, and right now, Geno is the most popular Mario characters hands down.

I'm lukewarm on the subject of Bowser Jr. being in Brawl, bordering on interest--only because he seems so likely and I see no reason to feel strongly against the notion. However, I heartily disagree with the thought of a Shadow Mario transformation, only because I'm tired with Mario clones/half clones. The only "Other Mario" that Brawl needs is Luigi, and even then I'd be partial to him having his own moveset. Bowser Jr. can do enough on his own without needing a transformation.
