I like Fryguy's idea of the pointer. It could be used to really change the gameplay mechanics. Such as being able to create groups, call pikmin back(by holding A and moving it over a pikmin), or by pointing and pressing a button, move pikmin to a target (such as a object or enemy).

No, it [glow=red,2,300]needs[/glow] to use the pointer, considering the pointer was surely made for these types of games. I just don't see how the pointer could be used in this game.. Both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 used both of the analogue sticks to play. The grey one was used to move Olimar/Louie/The President, whilst the yellow c-stick controlled the Pikmin (for example, making all your Pikmin move in single file, behind you). There is no way (that I can see), that the pointer could do this, given that the Wiimote/Nunchuck combo only has one analogue stick.

the wii remote is one big fucking analogue stick. If you were to copy the controls of Pikmin 1 and 2 exactly, nunchuk analogue would be used to move, wiimote would be used to direct pikmin. But my point is why make it exactly like Pikmin 1 and 2? We've got a new superior control system, so lets use it.

You could do the exact same thing with a stylus. Tap a target, and a Pikmin will be thrown to pick it up/ attack it. Tap Olimar, to call Pikmin back to him. Simple as that.

Well, my idea with the Wii Remote would be for more control. You can draw a circle on screen to control whole groups of Pikmin, you can point and click to move the selected group, or you can handpick a single Pikmin from the group.
I do agree a DS version would also work very well.
Here's a few ideas on how to make the new game work slightly differently to the others.
1. Olimar comes across a golden Pikmin that doesn't have an onion. Because he can't store it, it will always be Olimar's companion. Of course, it will also have some unique ability that means you have to use it sometimes.
2. Hocotate is under attack from an alien race, so Olimar brings his army of Pikmin back to his home planet to help defend it. So in this world, the Pikmin are man-sized, which will be a hilarious twist. Also gives an opportunity to meet Olimar's family ;D
Just a couple of thoughts on how to make a third game different to the first two.

Olimar is controlled with the nunchuck. Everything else is easy to picture. I kinda think you just like to argue here.

What about a win-win situation by having a Pikmin 3 on Wii but also have NDS compatability with the game.
It could allow for a unique co-op experience or be able to command multiple groups of Pikmin when you are not near them to do tasks such as treasure recovery.

Why's everyone talking about a DS version? The game is coming out for Wii, so shouldn't we just talk about the Wii version?
I understand all this speculation, but a lot of you seem so adamant on a DS version, it almost seems as a reality to you.

You'd almost think that was the point of this topic... Well since Pikmin is confirmed, might as well start a discussion! So how do you think the Wii controls are going to be used here? What you'te hoping to see? Let the speculation begin!
