Sure the game is a great concept, why in hell did they completely ditch everything the DK franchise was made of? They didn't even include any references to the arcade games (unless DK's hideous teeth count)! Because they wanted to make something different. Rather then reusing everything, they got creative and made everything new. If it had DK esque stuff, they probably couldn't have gotten away with any of the bizzar stuff in it.

It's understandable to try something new, god only knows I wanted DK to fight someone else for a change, but that doesn't mean you abandon the past completely.
They could have added some stuff in there at least in the background to show that this is the same DK series and not a recreation of it.

I the wizzle cares if Diddy is in, and If JB were a Mario game, you can bet your Australian ass that everybody on the face of the planet would hate it's guts. You mean a Mario game that completely goes against everything that's usually seen in a Mario game and introduces a completely new set of characters and enemies in a wildly different standard than what Mario fans expected? I think they called it Super Mario Land. I've never known people to hate its guts. Wouldn't SMB2 be a better example of that? Anyway, I have to agree with everything Man-Frog said I'm afraid. Hopefully, this remake will sink like a stone, and force Nintendo to make a proper DK game for once.

Like I said, they already did - Donkey Kong Country pretty much abandoned the Arcade content, and Jungle Beat did the same. Its no different.

DKC has Cranky, the DK arcade theme song, Barrels, reptiles as enemies, a little sub-plot involving the fact that the protagonist was really DK Jr. as an adult, vines, and that opening with the red girders. "Abandoned" my ass.

Given that DK didn't do much in the DK Arcade, apart from throw barrels/springs at Mario (or "Jumpman", if you prefer) and crack his head open after the fourth level, Rare were pretty much working with a clean slate when they started work on DKC.

"Abandoned" my ass. Actually, we aren't even sure if this DK is DK Jr.'s son anymore. The point is the franchise moved into a radical new direction and it stayed there. Yet no one complained. Yet now every DK fanatic hates JB just becuase DK was the only Donkey Kong character. Yet the franchise is the same. Heck, it could be argued that JB was the closest to the DKC games as it was a platformer about collecting bananas and swinging around. But it begs the question: have any of you played the game?

I have played it, and it really just plays like DKC with a drum and some Punch-Out style fight sequences. I don't mind that so much as the stuff I've been talking about all this time. In fact, I think the game would actually be improved by using the Wii Remotes (hurt wrists > hurt palms).
For the record, Super DK being an adult DK Jr. isn't that much of a problem, and I really don't understand why anyone would look for reasons to go against it or not like it. The only ones who seem to do this are "retro" purists, whom, as Flip and I have pointed out in the past, aren't exactly the most coherent bunch around. If anything, this little bit of mythology actually explains why DK Jr. is no longer seen. It's like how superheroes pass on their identities to their successors.
Heck, if we can have more than one Link, what's wrong with more than one DK?

Yeah, but they're only found in giant form and at the end of each stage.

But it begs the question: have any of you played the game? Yes I have, and it sucked in my opinion (and boy, did my hands ache afterward!). Still, I guess it was better than Donkey Konga, I suppose...

Donkey Konga was the bomb-diggety. Needed some more songs, and for them not to be covers, but it was lots of fun.

Obviously some of you guys don't play the game right. Don't use your palms to hit the bongos, instead put your hands on the sides of the bongos resting your thumbs on top. Use your thumbs to tap the bongos and lightly hit the sides of the bongos to clap.
Your hands won't hurt and you have better control over the game.

It's a drum. Drums are meant to be beaten, not pressed with your thumbs. That just defeats the whole purpose of the controller being shaped like a drum in the first place. Further reasoning as to why having such a control scheme is actually a bad idea, since the only way to not get hurt is to play it as though it weren't a drum (which it is).

www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-3EuqGTFbMwhile you don't generally play a bongo drum with your thumbs, you don't pound on it with flat palms like an ape (eh? eh?) either. So you're playing it wrong.
