Brainstorming has lead to this paragraph on Bulbapedia. Oshawott possibly derives from ocean, shell, water and otter; it may possibly a corruption of "ocean water". It might make reference to Oshawa, Ontario, in Canada, as Canada contains many protected areas in which sea otters reside. It could also make reference to George Ohsawa, a famed dietian born into a poor samurai family during the Meiji Restoration of Japan. I'm not familiar with Canadian protected areas, but since the game is inspired by North American regions, why not borrow the name? Still, the reference to ocean or a Japanese surname is more than enough to me. Poor Pokémon, I've not gotten used even to how it looks.

I like the Japanese names better, the English names for the new starters don't sound as interesting as the ones in the previous generations in my opinion. Nice explanation about Oshawott's name origin, Johans Nidorino. I didn't know that you could fuse so many different words into a Pokemon name.

At Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Pikachu's 10th appearance... plus Reshiram and Zekrom! They removed Reshiram's "phallic" protrusion, by the way. What will be its future in America? (The Sugimori artwork is intact on the official site at least)

Zorua has been confirmed as the name for the Tricky Fox Pokémon. The ability Illusion preserves its name from Japanese, and the Dark-type move previously reported as Trickery will be named Foul Play. On the page for Zoroark at the official site, we learn that he's called the Illusion Fox Pokémon and that the move that rises Accuracy and Attack at the same time will be named Hone Claws. A lot of Pokémon will be able to learn it via TM01. Remember, TMs are unbreakable now ^_^

Is it just me, or does Dent seem a bit... fruity? Heh. I guess I'd totally be the one to notice.

From the localized boxes of Pokémon Black and White, we learn the English names of the "elemental monkeys" (the Grass-, Fire-, and Water-type Pokémon that are apparently themed after the three wise monkeys). Their names will be Pansage, Pansear and Panpour, respectively. In addition, Trainer N and Team Plasma will keep their names as we know them. Click to see image.

Pan is a genus of apes... oddly these are monkeys. Pan is also Greek for "all" or "everything"
Sage refers to medicinal plants in the mint family. Sear is a cooking technique. Pour is to send liquid falling.
But that's kind of obvious.

It might refer to the Genus Pan, of which chimps are in. While they aren't monkeys, sure, most people associate chimps with monkeys.
Thanks for pointing out the Pan genus, Koopaul.
