Ever feel that the latest game in a franchise added something new in it that was completely pointless because something like it already exists in the franchise?
Let me give you an example. You know those warp block in Super Mario 3D Land? They do the exact same thing as Warp Pipes, so why do they exist? You jump into them and they warp you to another part of the level! Why didn't they just have them all be Warp Pipes?
So yeah post something in a game you felt was pointless because there was something already established that serves the same role.
Oh and refrain from using characters as examples. We don't want to start a fight here.

I always thought it was kind of dumb that Goldeen was a Pokeball Pokemon in Smash Bros and when she comes out she uses Splash...that's Magikarp's attack. Why is Goldeen using it? You can't explain that.

Yeah that always got me too.
And how about those tons of items in Pokemon that all do the same thing? What's the point?

Being cheap as hell ofcourse! Screw your super potions, time to spam the lemonade machine!
I found the move Frustration to be pretty worthless tho. I mean I get that it's the opposite of Return basing the power on a Pokemon's unhappiness rather than happiness, but Pokemon get happier by battling or just walking around with 'em. Why would you ever choose Frustration over return?
Yeahyeah limited TMs and tourney nonsense, but G5 TMs have no limit anymore so now they're truly worthless

Haha, Max Repel. Anyone knows that you get more bang for your pokebuck is you buy Super Repels instead. Reads previous post . . . checks Bulbapedia "Repel" page, confirms info.FUCCCCCCCCKKKKKK, All those wasted Pokebuck's down the drain . . . Leaves and goes to Celadon Casino . . . Another Smash Bros one, why do we have the raygun item and not the NES Zapper? Come on, there's the bloody Super Scope in the game so they can't pull any bullshit about it. (We even had the Wii Zapper, so Nintendo is obviously still has the name). The "coin" item in Super Mario Kart, "here player, have some free coins! Even though there's plenty on the track!" then you get bumped by another kart and lose them, when it would have been really nice to have a weapon instead.

R.O.B.
Honestly, why do you have to use a slow, pondering, barely working robot when you could just as easily use a controller?

Every single video game released after Yoshi's Island - clearly at this point the art of making video games had been completely and utterly mastered, so why do we still continue?

Also I just remembered: the copy ability in Kirby Super Star. Fancy cyclops glasses 'n all, but what's the point as copying is a basic ability you can already use from the start

Actually that ability is there because it's the only one-shot ability that can be turned into a Helper, allowing player 2 to copy and dump abilities the same way Kirby does.

It's also pretty useful in Milky Way Wishes until you get every ability.

The funny part is, it only really becomes useful if you know about those things. It's just sort of a novelty at first. I'm not sure if that makes it better or not.

I was looking at the Mario Kart GP item list and this game is the king of having pointless items and crap! Those games have an unlockable item system to encourage you to keep pumping in coins, though. It needs a ridiculous amount of items for that reason, and really, there's only so many possible things a Mario Kart item can do and act, so they're repeated a lot. Is it really that bothersome to you? Really EDIT: Actually, I looked at the list, and the majority of items are at least somewhat different, with the exception of the various character-specific items, which seem to often do the same things as another's. But, money money money mooooneeeyyy.
