I block in the colour (super fast) then shade with 40% transparency in layers, so colouring is quite quick. Compared to inking with the tablet, which is sloooow, but looks quite nice. I'm still learning to shade properly. It's all new to me!

I don't remember trees in the Mappy ga- oh god MAPPY LOOK OUT
Still super cool these are. Also I just read about your Momo shenanigans, that really really sucks. It's also the reason why I'm a paranoid asshole and make like a billion 'beta' copies of everything I do
It was a nightmare of a weekend! My plan to finish at least two more was scuppered entirely!
For those who only follow here (are there any of you?), I drew Wonder Momo, I finished Wonder Momo. I drew a background which was rather nice. I hit save and got the blue screen of death!!!. My laptop has been struggling a bit lately, but this was a new symptom in its slow decline.
Anyway, a quick restart and it hadn't saved my last changes (the background). A pain, but not the end of the world. I drew the background again, saved it again, seemed to work... but no! Another sudden restart, and the discovery that this time the layers had been corrupted and strange colour banding had appeared across it!
So, with a frustrated sigh, I decided to manually restart and see if I could recover any more of the file before trying to fix it up. Nope! This time Windows decided to wipe the whole file! Everything I'd done! All sketches, inking, colours & shading, the background, everything! Hours of work deleted because I had the gall to try and save it!
Suffice to say, my frustration level was FUCKFUCKFUCKITYFUCK!
But never mind, because later that day (yesterday) I went and upgraded. To a shiny iMac! Before I can continue I need to sort out my software and hardware. There's also a risk that my TV card will work on the Mac, which means you might have to suffer some YouTube videos from me. Mwahaha!
But yes, there's a slight delay before I can continue, and annoyingly I am away this weekend so I can't dedicate as much time to it as I'd like to. But we'll see!
Momo is coming, and hopefully will be even better the third time round!
nocturnal YL: Game progress update: Atelier Lydie & Suelle DX — defeated Falgior, so it's about 1/3 done (about 1/4 if I count post-game item grinding); WarioWare: Get It Together! — played up to the staff credits (about 5%, I guess).

nocturnal YL: This pic is how I'd rate my games on Nintendo Switch so far (subject to change). Numbers are meant to show relative positions; like temperatures in °C and °F, absolute values don't mean much.

Nester the Lark: The Atelier series has been on sale on the NA eShop for the first time since Spring 2020. It's tempting, but I have so many other things to play right now.

nocturnal YL: A speedrun of Atelier Rorona can take as little as 45 minutes.

nocturnal YL: But seriously, this series is a major time sink. Even if you don't want to spend too much time, I'd recommend playing one whole sub-series in order to understand the story. Earlier games can be played without the later ones, though.

nocturnal YL: Sophie 1 is often recommended as a starting point, since the story is interesting (for a first game) and is relatively newcomer-friendly*, while I'd say Lulua which is very polished and there are relatively few cutscenes that need knowledge in prior games.
Oct 2, 2021 10:23:29 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: *Which… I disagree; you can get through Firis and later even if you're not good at making items, but with Sophie you'll be stuck once you've beaten the game and gets into the DLC.

nocturnal YL: Or you can go for Ryza 1, the popular option; just know that you'll miss out a lot of what makes Atelier Atelier if you go for that route. As for Lydie & Suelle (which got me in in the first place), it has great story but there's a bit of a learning curve.

Nester the Lark: I've got some mixed thoughts on Metroid Dread. I'll try to write up a post about it.

nocturnal YL: I'm finally starting to see myself getting to the end of my quest to make optimal equipment and defeat all extra bosses in Atelier Lydie & Suelle DX. Which means I'm going to write another review post and move on to the next game.

Nester the Lark: I think we're firmly in the "conservative and arrogant" phase of the Nintendo cycle.

nocturnal YL: WHEW. Finally done making the review. It took me a week to do so. I think I went overboard with this one. There are more than 170 screenshots.

nocturnal YL: Met the goddesses in Silent Desert in Toal's route. I think Ys Origin is pretty good at giving just enough in both story and gameplay for players to want to try the next route. It's a rare case of multiple story routes done mostly right.

nocturnal YL: Almost there. I'm at the top of the tower, but I want to grind for a few levels before fighting Dalles. Unlike most other RPGs I've seen, player level matters a lot here. Battles become very easy if the player is 2-3 levels above the boss.
Nov 16, 2021 14:25:59 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: ^ This is common in older Ys games. Even one level can make a significant difference.
Nov 17, 2021 11:23:56 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: About a bit more than halfway into Ys IX, I think. I just got Raging Bull. A rough way to describe this game is that Ys VIII and Ys Origin feel like instant awesomeness, while Ys IX takes some time to get into, but it's good once I get there.

nocturnal YL: Finally reached the place where "Adol" sneaked into. Neither the prison nor the Dandelion feel as secure as they claim to be…
Nov 27, 2021 9:17:36 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: The prison feels like a country club. I kept expecting to find a spa in the next room.
Nov 27, 2021 11:50:55 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Got to the final part. Which means I saw that shocking reveal.
