As the page about Wario Land II already tells, a mini-game named "Flagman DD" can be unlocked, which is a remake of the Game & Watch game Flagman. However, that information isn't fully complete. Actually, Flagman DD is obviously based on an earlier remake of Flagman featured in the PAL region-exclusive game Game Boy Gallery. If you compare both remakes of Flagman, you'll see that many of the graphics from the remake in Game Boy Gallery have been recycled for the Wario Land II version, only the flagman himself (the unnamed boy or Dangerous Duck) and his two companions have been really changed (and the sound effects, of course). That includes the water, the clouds, the wooden platforms and the font. Even the graphics for the window appearing by pausing or for a Game Over are adopted, including the hopping stick-figure on the pause window. Also, though Dangerous Duck looks naturally different from the human boy (or man?), his poses how he holds the flags are also the same, his losing pose (folding his arms) is the same, too. I think this should be noted on the respective pages.

That's interesting. I'll have to check it out. Of course, despite the fact Game Boy Gallery was a PAL only release, it was developed by Nintendo - so it's not surprising they would use the same programming.

I own two carts of this PAL only game with two boxes and one instruction manual (don't ask me how I got them. I don't remember). I was thinking about putting this up but became very busy and forgot. Anyway even the Super Gameboy borders are identical in both the Flagman DD and Game Boy Gallery version. I still find it interesting why they didn't release it in the U.S. maybe because it was too slow for U.S. gamers, it was too weird or it was released by mistake explaining why it doesn't save hi-scores. This is definitely interesting.

Well, upon release in the UK it received scores of between 1-10%... that might have done it You have to remember, it's just 4 games, with slight graphical updates - but identical in gameplay. I do wonder if this decided if the Game & Watch Gallery games should also come loaded with Mario-themed updates (to make them a bit less tedious).

Programming not, but borrowing background graphics from a game of a not directly related franchise without mentioning the original source isn't the most normal thing, or? You have to remember, it's just 4 games... There are 5 games! *duckinghead* *runningaway*

Oops, I totally forgot to mention this possible cameo in WarioWare: Twisted!: Jimmy T.'s microgame "Dig This": With the playable character's suit, what he does (digging through the earth), and with the title, this microgame reminds me of the non-Nintendo arcade game "Dig Dug". But I'm not sure if it counts, Fryguy has to decide. EDIT: Urrrgh, I posted this in the wrong thread. Could someone move it to "Cameos in WarioWare", please?

Thank you for the screenshots, now it can't be more evident. Never played these games with Super Game Boy, the identical SGB borders makes the recycling even more clearer.

Another, albeit tenuous connection, is that the Game Boy Gallery character appears to be a pirate, and D.D. is part of the Brown/Black Sugar pirates.

I've always thought that was the driving force behind the Flagman/DD thing, but this is the best evidence of a connection so far. I'll add this to the WL2 page ;D
