nocturnal YL: Back when I played Atelier Lydie & Suelle and Atelier Lulua, I thought I found an entire series of high-quality games. But while the past games are enjoyable and excel at some areas, the very high overall quality wasn't really there until Lydie & Suelle. May 17, 2024 8:47:41 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: This is not a complaint; just amused that prior to trying out more than half of the series, I thought I was missing out, but now it feels more like I jumped in right on time. May 17, 2024 8:49:31 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: And on top of that, you didn't seem to care for the Ryza trilogy. May 17, 2024 9:30:53 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I do like Ryza 3. The story is eventually closer to what I wanted it to be, and the early availability of the advanced synthesis features made it a lot more enjoyable than Ryza 1. I consider the overall trilogy pretty weak, though. May 17, 2024 10:34:08 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: At Chapter 7 now. Spent the whole weekend playing it. I found it a lot more enjoyable than what I've read about it.
Still can't say if I'll like the later parts (with the aforementioned balance changes), but it looks like it's going to the best Dusk game.

nocturnal YL: Which also menas that, 4 out of 4 times, my least favourite game is the first game, and my favourite is the chronologically newest game. Come to think of it, I tend to prefer newer entries in other series too. May 19, 2024 8:55:35 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: Super Mario 64 has been beaten without pressing the A button even once. May 23, 2024 9:55:50 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: If this is done with an actual Wii and not a modified emulator, that means 3 A presses were used just to launch the game :P
I still long for the day when 0x on N64 is proven possible.
May 24, 2024 8:26:36 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: At the interlude between Chapter 9 and the Final Chapter now. I'm still at about level 60 (out of 99), so here comes the endgame grinding and extra bosses. May 25, 2024 6:14:15 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Assuming this game isn't going to betray my expectation at the end, I'm fairly certain this is the best entry in the Dusk series. I'm aware of complaints about the original PS3 version wasn't good (especially the English version before updates)… May 25, 2024 6:17:24 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: …surrounding how incomplete the game felt, but the Plus version has a rewritten story that integrates Ayesha, Escha and Logy in it, whereas in other games, additions are made of independent character events. It feels more like New Rorona level of changes. May 25, 2024 6:19:55 GMT -5 *
nocturnal YL: And the DX version has the usual game speed changes too. It remains to be seen if the adverse balance changes are detrimental to enjoying the game, but basic story completion at Hardcore difficulty is pretty easy by series veteran standard. May 25, 2024 6:23:22 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I've finished Atelier Shallie DX. I'm still in the middle of the item preparation process, and I finished the story to unlock the higher difficulties (which lead to better items). Shallie is incredibly grindy at the end, behind only Nelke and Firis. Jun 1, 2024 23:40:51 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: You'll need alchemy level 99 to reach the highest quality, and making every item once doesn't get you anywhere close to that. You also need to rely on random drops, which means repeated boss fights. Jun 1, 2024 23:42:55 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: The synthesis puzzle is very fun, but doesn't make up for the tedious preparation process. Compare to Sophie 2 or Ryza 3 giving out best traits late game, Lydie & Suelle having them all in DLC, or Escha & Logy where the grinding doesn't involve fighting. Jun 1, 2024 23:45:57 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Fire Emblem: Three Houses has the oldest Anna in the series (probably), while Fire Emblem Engage has the youngest. It's an interesting contrast. Jun 12, 2024 10:22:26 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: I like how Engage suggests that all of the Annas are just a big family that span across multiple worlds. Jun 12, 2024 18:55:19 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Almost done writing the text for my review. I still have to do double-checking and pick screenshots. This will be a long post, though not longer than my Surge Concerto DX review. This should be done in a few days, I think…? Jun 17, 2024 12:10:56 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: I like that Nintendo said this Direct would be for games launching in 2024, and then announced a bunch of stuff for 2025. (Full thoughts later.) Jun 18, 2024 9:52:04 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: NVIDIA is hailed as one of the most advanced tech companies, but here I am, trying to figure out why CUDA doesn't work with my browser or my vector graphics editor. Jun 21, 2024 11:38:35 GMT -5
