If you cast your mind back, Nintendo Database used to have icons for Information, Cameos, Easter Eggs and so on. Information was a SMW Info Block, Easter Eggs were Yoshi Eggs and so on. I was never happy with the cameos, which was an Exclamation Block. I am going to be using some icons on the site, and I want some ideas for cameo appearances. So far my fave ideas include a pixellated Samus helmet or Mario head, probably from one of their many cameos. But I'm not totally sure... so please help me come up with better!

Totaka's Song...oh, wait, that's not an image. How about the Super Smash Bros. emblem since the series is pretty much based on cameos?

I think it's be cool to use the Mario statue from Kirby Super Star for the cameos.

How about some blend of icons of the series that are crossed over?
EDIT: I think what you're meaning is something that symbolizes cameos, no matter of what game A in what game B. In that case, I'll borrow a bit from both Nester's and Teev's ideas and suggest "Kirby wearing a Mario hat" ;D

Wait, what are all the categories? I think it'd be cool if the icons were animated, like info could be the Info Block from Yoshi's Island...opening his mouth or whatever when the mouse hovers over it...

I do. Wasn't that based on my old old projects where the series list used icons too? ;D These icons are being used for information across the site, rather than for individual series. At least that's the plan for now. There's a reason. I'm playing with a few different things at the moment to make finding information on the site easier, and icons will be incorporated into that. For now, the categories are: Information (info block) Release Data (?) Cameos (?) Easter Eggs (Yoshi egg) There may be more in future, but for now that's all I'm worrying about.

Teev, totally a great idea! I thought it would be neat to make icons based off of the DS BIOS Even when the DS came out, I didn't like those icons. They're too big and over-detailed. Sorry.

Mario hat for cameos? The hat, or its trademark encircled M, appear in quite a lot of games.

I don't know about the Poké Ball, as it symbolizes capturing and containing more than it does "releasing". Unless it's open or a beam comes out of it... But it's your call.
Other (perhaps less fun) alternatives would be a calendar or a world (maybe from some game?).
Or something symbolizing a party. When a game comes out, it's like a party, isn't it? xD

GBC Super Mario Bros Deluxe has a calendar icon, but it's large than 16*16. Unless you edit it, of course.

It wouldn't be fair to have all the symbols be Mario based and one is Pokemon based.
Release data should be like a clock or something.

Nah, check it... open PokeballAnd having them all Mario based is a stupid idea. It's Nintendo Database, not Mario Database. I say reference the big names. Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and something like Kirby, Metroid, or Donkey Kong.
