R.O.B. Series
Series introduction still to be written. Will focus on the R.O.B. peripheral and its role in introducing the NES to the west.
Stack-Up
aka. Famicom Robot: Block Set
Famicom/NES 1985
- All game modes have been written up in detail.
- Characters, enemies and items have been written up.
Gyromite
aka. Famicom Robot: Gyro Set
Famicom/NES 1985
- Game modes still to be written.
- Characters, enemies and items have been written up.
R.O.B. Series Cameos
(There will no doubt be some missing from this list, so please help to fill me in)
Star Tropics
The pilot computer of the Sub-C is Nav-Com, who appears as a purple R.O.B.
Star Fox 64
ROB64 (and why it possibly isn't a cameo).
The boss of the Sector X stage, "Spyborg" is named HVC-09 in Japan, which is a Famicom hardware serial code. HVC-09 is an unused number, and the nearest used number is HVC-12 for R.O.B. Given the similarity between Spyborg and R.O.B. in appearance, it's likely that Spyborg may have been a prototype robot (which would make its ramblings about finding its "creator" so it can be completed less nonsensical).
Kirby's Dream Land 3
At the end of Sand Canyon level 6, Professor Hector is waiting. To earn his Heart Star, you must find all the pieces of R.O.B. scattered around the canyon temple.
Game Boy Camera
Get 500 points in Ball to unlock a picture of R.O.B. in the B-Album (B26).
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames
One of 9-Volt's microgames, Stack-Up, features R.O.B. and the title screen to the game in the background. Press the A Button to make R.O.B. grab the coloured blocks in front of him.
F-Zero GX
Giant R.O.B.s appear in the background of the Port Town: Aero Dive stage, unloading cargo from ships. They are the colour of the Famicom.
Pikmin 2
Six of the treasures you can find in the Wistful Wild Hole of Heroes cave are based on R.O.B.
- Remembered Old Buddy (R.O.B.'s head)
- Fond Gyro Disk (Red Block)
- Memorable Gyro Disk (Yellow Block)
- Lost Gyro Disk (Green Block)
- Favorite Gyro Disk (Blue Block)
- Treasured Gyro Disk (White Block)
WarioWare: Twisted!
In 9-Volt's room during the cutscenes, a R.O.B. appears.
WarioWare: Touched!
In 9-Volt's boss stage, "Gunslinger" (based on Hogan's Alley Game C) you have to shoot small cans until they land. You then have to shoot two large 3D oil drums until they break, revealing a piece of NES hardware. One of these is R.O.B.
Electroplankton
When playing the Beatnes plankton, press the SELECT Button to scroll through different sound effects from different Famicom/NES games. One of these sets of sound effects are from Stack-Up and Gyromite (including the synthesized voice and the gate open and close SFX) played to a cut down version of the Gyromite Game A music.
Mario Kart DS
One of the unlockable drivers is R.O.B. He has two karts: the ROB-BLS and the ROB-LGS. The BLS is based on his Stack-Up setup, while the LGS simply stands for "Legs" (and does not appear to be based on anything released). R.O.B. appears in his Famicom Robot colour scheme in Japan, and will appear in this colour if played over Wi-Fi.
Tetris DS
Professor Hector appears on the top screen during the main menu, using sprites from both Stack-Up and Gyromite.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
In 9-Volt's boss stage based on Star Fox, you eventually come up against a 16-bit styled 3D R.O.B. holding a Zapper.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Characters: R.O.B. appears as a playable character with a range of spinning and laser-eye attacks. He can also spin Gyros. His basic colour scheme is the Famicom Robot, but the NES R.O.B. colour scheme is also available.
Trophies: R.O.B., Diffusion Beam, R.O.B. Sentry, R.O.B. Launcher, R.O.B. Blaster, Ancient Minister
Stickers: R.O.B. (MKDS-US), Robot (MKDS-Jp), Robot & Blocks (Stack-Up)
Music: "Gyromite" is actually based on the Bingo music from Stack-Up. The name is correct in Japan. It plays on the Mario Bros. stage (R.O.B. is the only character without his own stage).
Other: R.O.B.s play a large role in The Subspace Emissary. Two R.O.B.s are used to detonate the Subspace Bombs. They are directed by the Ancient Minister, who is later revealed to be a R.O.B. himself. He eventually joins the group after watching his island destroyed.
Other: Giant R.O.B.s appear in the background of the Port Town Aero Dive stage, as they do in F-Zero GX.
Notable third party: Viewtiful Joe
