Welcome to Nintendo Database. Whether you are a new member here, or a regular poster with a big and sexy post count, please read through these rules and abide by them.
1. GOLDEN RULE: Do not post unless you have something interesting to add
1a) The guiding principle of these forums. If you read a topic but have absolutely nothing to add to it - do not post!
1b) The definition of "interesting" includes debate, humour and opinion. All are encouraged here.
1c) "Me too" and "First Post" posts, or any attempt to boost your post count without contributing to discussion is viewed as a serious breach of the rules. Your post will be deleted and you will receive a first warning.
1d) Endlessly repeating yourself during a debate is not interesting. You will be given a fair chance, but repeated breaches will be viewed as an attempt to boost your post count.
2. Do not post lists of names!
2a) Linked to the Golden Rule above - a list of names adds nothing to discussion, and is not helpful, interesting or illuminating.
2b) In discussions that require lists (e.g. who you want in the next Smash Bros.), you MUST accompany the entries on your list with an explanation.
2c) Failure to explain yourself will lead to your post being deleted, regardless of how long it is or how much work you put into it.
3. Treat others as you wish to be treated.
3a) If you act in an aggressive manner towards another member, you will receive a warning, and the offending post may be edited or deleted.
3b) New members and lurkers deserve just as much respect as regular posters. Do not attack them for minor transgressions (e.g. posting something that has already been posted), but simply explain the situation.
3c) Troublemakers will be dealt with by myself and forum admins. Do not take matters into your own hands. If you have a genuine concern, send me a private message about the matter. Do not inflame the situation - ignore the offender and post as normal until the situation is resolved.
4. Topic rules
4a) If posting a new topic, please make sure there is not an active topic covering a similar subject.
4b) Only bump old topics if there is new information to add. Bumping very old topics is generally frowned upon.
4c) If creating a new topic, please make sure it goes in the correct messageboard. The categories are there for a reason. If incorrect, your post may be moved without warning.
5. Spoilers.
5a) Do not put game spoilers in the topic title.
5b) If your post contains spoilers, make sure to specify that spoilers lie ahead in the title, so interested parties can avoid the topic if they wish.
5c) If posting spoilers in somebody else's thread, please use the spoiler tag Spoiler Here.
5d) If you are avoiding spoilers, do not go into posts about that game. If the game is spoiled for you in such a topic, that is your own fault, and not that of the poster.
6. Use of language
6a) There is a swear filter in place for certain words. This is not meant to dissuade you from using those words.
6b) Aggressive or abusive language is a serious breach of forum rules. New members using abusive language are likely to face a speedy ban, while regular members risk having their posts, post counts, sigs and names edited by myself - and may be banned after repeat offences.
6c) If someone says something that can be misinterpreted as a sexual innuendo, you are obliged to follow it up with:
(write *todd*)
7. Have Fun!
7a) This is a community of people with an interest in Nintendo and videogames in general. 15 years ago, this level of worldwide interaction with people of similar interest groups was pretty much unheard of! So why the hell does everyone take it so seriously? Have fun, for crying out loud! That's what the internet is for!
