It probably hasn't escaped your notice, but there's been a fair bit of spam activity around here lately. I've deleted the main culprits, but I've also discovered that the majority of the users that have signed up in the past 10 months or so have been spam accounts. Most of them are dormant, probably trying to get some SEO benefits by having links to their websites on as many forums as possible... But a few were being too noisy.
As such, I am currently going through a user cull. This shouldn't affect any regular users, but just in case:
- Any user accounts that have spam signatures or are otherwise clearly spam accounts are being deleted. - Any user accounts with 0 posts that have been dormant for 5 years or more (before August 2008) have been deleted.
I may also delete any 0 post accounts that haven't logged in since the account was created (prior to 2013).
If an account does have posts of any number, unless they are spam, then that account is safe for now.
I'm going to look into some form of verification procedure as well.
