I've been browsing the new site stuff, and I'm highly impressed!
There is one thing I'd like to suggest though: The "Search By Series" list page comes off as a little bland. Maybe you could put a fadey-background picture to the side of each letter-section, showing old-school artwork of a prominent game starting with that letter?

Maybe you could put a fadey-background picture to the side of each letter-section, showing old-school artwork of a prominent game starting with that letter? Actually, I have been working towards a solution. I would like to use the small images for each series on this page (like I use on the homepage), but the problem is that the site is chopped up differently for old and new sections. Until this morning, that is. I finished a painfully long (but necessary) reupload of the site with games filed by their respective series. I have also gone and updated all links to the site on Wikipedia, which was equally painful. This solves a number of problems I was having with new updates, including not having anywhere permanent to store all the cool little graphical flourishes I have been adding to the site. And I also shouldn't have to do quite as many huge uploads of pages to redirect links to new sections. It should just be: work on updated bit, upload updated bit, done! I am slowly but surely improving things... bit by bit.

Nice work. I'd fix the oddly worded last sentence in the Tennis cameo- I think it's supposed to say that it was Mario's first came on the NES, not the first NES cameo overall.
Sad to see the DK Jr./ Ice Climber Nitpicker bit not get mentioned. I've always thought those were an odd enemy sharing cameo.

Nice work. I'd fix the oddly worded last sentence in the Tennis cameo- I think it's supposed to say that it was Mario's first came on the NES, not the first NES cameo overall. Both wrong, and yet both right. It's the first cameo in a Nintendo game. It was released in January 1984, and as far as I can see there are no earlier cameos in any Nintendo games. Of course, that also makes it Mario's first cameo appearance AND the first one on the NES. When I was going back through the pages, I did consider mentioning under Nitpicker's Ice Climber enemy entry that it shares a name (but not a likeness) with a bird from Donkey Kong Jr., so might still stick that there. But I won't really list it as a cameo I don't think.

Ah, ok. It seemed odd to me that that was the first came in a Nintendo game, but your right. It is. I thought it came later for some reason.
OK, that makes sense for the Nitpicker. It's an oddly reused name, but maybe not a cameo.

Just wondering but would games that have only been published by Nintendo in certain regions like Final Fantasy CC, World of Goo (Japan), and the recent Samurai Warriors 3 and Dragon Quest 9 (NA, Europe) be mentioned on NinDB?
(There probably more examples but I can't think of any more).

These "licensed games", as I have previously referred to them, used to be a major part of the website. Unfortunately, having those games on NinDB was a big problem. They aren't Nintendo games, and there's so many of them, particularly in the US and Europe.
I did away with them because:
A) Nintendo isn't involved in the development or production, aside from some localisation work in a handful of cases. They are simply there to market the game "overseas". The series will never appear in a Smash Bros. game, most of them don't even show up in the Chronicle in Brawl. They are simply... not within the interest of the site.
B) They were the least-viewed yet most-grumbled-about pages on the site. I'd have someone email me to complain that I hadn't included Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh on the SNES (published in the US by Nintendo, everywhere else by Taito). Nobody gave a damn that it was there, just that it wasn't there.
B) I have also done away with regional release lists as these were a nightmare to maintain. Without them, more than half the games on the NES, SNES and GB game lists would not be Nintendo games, which is madness.
There are some problem areas though, and I have been racking my brain for a while to come up with ways around them:
A) Occasionally, Nintendo will be involved in the development and publishing of a property that isn't theirs. The best examples are Tetris and SimCity. In these cases, the Nintendo games count as a side-branch off the main series. Easy job.
But then you have the increasing number of other ones, such as Baten Kaitos II, Fatal Frame IV, Ridge Racer 64, even Crystalis and Bionic Commando: EF on GBC. It's great that Nintendo gets involved with other publishers and their properties, but they don't have a natural home on NinDB. I give them pages, but also make them a low priority.
B) During localisation, Nintendo will occasionally stick a cameo into a game that isn't theirs. The SimCity banners in Super Soccer, or the Nester quote in Dragon Warrior...
C) Related, Nintendo will also license out its properties to other publishers, such as Mario in NBA Street V2, Super Punch Out in Fight Night Round 2, and even lovely ol' Takamaru in Samurai Warriors 3. These games don't have a home on NinDB, but they need somewhere to live as their cameos are totally official and need to be chronicled here somewhere.
It's an arse of a site to maintain sometimes. Any ideas?

I suggest just having a separate page for games that are not made by Nintendo but feature Nintendo cameos, and by cameos I mean actual tangible appearances or direct references to things, not thinly-veiled parodies and stuff like that. If you did that you'd wind up having to included half of all video games in existence.

Haha, I actually had one page covering them all a while back. I'll dig it out of the archives and get to updating it. New update today to the Totaka's Song Guide. I basically totally reformatted it, updated the MP3 player code so it actually works again (damn you, Google!) made new screenshots and added an MP3 for Pikmin 2. Most of which are thanks to my lovely capture card. Oh yeah, and I added details on finding the song in X-Scape. Now for the sad bit... I have stripped the timings off the Wave Race 64 soundrip, put them all to over 5 minutes and stuck them on my iPod. Fingers crossed, after 2 1/2 hours solid listening (probably during work) I will have located Totaka's Song. If not, then a pox on their houses! I'm also convinced the song will show up in Wii Music somewhere. Shame nobody could be arsed to play it. I've also done a load of work on reinstating an old section that should be ready in a few days. Did somebody say Developer lists?

Wow, reading the last time I updated this page is depressing... Regardless.... SITE UPDATEHells yeah! A couple of days ago I added some new info on Color TV Game, and now I'm injecting your eyeholes with massive Famicom & NES updates. Hardware section and cancelled games have been added, as well as a much prettier game list (and the old boring one is still there for those of you who like to sort by release date). Oh, and there's been some minor tweaks here and there. I expect I'll keep tweaking it over the next few days.

Remember to edit the hardware index page as well so that it doesn't call 3DS a future system. The NES hardware is massive and well done, and much better than the old one too. Don't know if this one is worth mentioning, but the original Famicom did not use a composite cable for output like everything else. The new Famicom was therefore called AV Famicom by some gamers. As for NES-101, well... I'll just say read this Wikipedia entry and its citation #8.

I like the new list NES release layout. It's all fancy with it's screenshots, more appealing when you're just browsing through it. Also that cancelled NES games page is pretty cool, didn't know about Simcity for example. I can only imagine how awesome that 8bit music would've been

You won't believe this... but I did update the Systems list... then I made a few more changes, got annoyed that it wasn't working out, and chucked the old code back in, overwriting the little changes. D'oh! That whole page will be changed eventually, when I figure out what best to do with it. For now I guess the worst I could do is make the 3DS update and add the link to the Project Cafe page. I've always been torn between having a pretty page and a functional page. This time I decided to just give everyone both and be done with it I've been sitting on the information about Palps for a while. I came across it years ago, and then found some more details this time last year. Sim City was pretty interesting. According to Nintendo Power, that game was more or less complete as well. Some tasty feedback! I'm looking forward to doing the Game Boy and SNES pages now!

Great layouts, Fry. The cancelled games section is pretty cool.
One super minor thing: MOTHER's localization was as Earth Bound- two words. I think that's the reason for the capital B in EarthBound.
