However, in this case, I'd file Birdo under "hallucinatory" before "avian" or "reptilian." I'd quite happily file Birdo under the "stupid name provided by NoA." Like Buzzy Beetle the turtle, or Spike/Gabon/Clubba. Gotta love it...

Gabon is Japanese, but I supposed one can argue that Spike and Clubba are two different variations of the same enemy: One that throws a mace ball, and the other that swings a mace ball on a stick. I still think "Mace Penguin" is totally unforgivable, though.

Yeah, Clubba (or Gabon Soldier in Japan) is related - but you wouldn't know it from the naming. Includes Tubba Blubba and Grubba, of course. Nintendo seems to have gone back to Spike for SPP and NSMB.

Maybe the real Birdo is a female, as she appeared in SMRPG. However, maybe the dream Birdo was male. (or Yoshi in drag.... :

Except Yoshi lays eggs with his butt, so unless he was doing a handstand in a Birdo Costume for SMB2...

So Birdo doesn't have a vagina for a mouth... but it's still pretty close.

I'm not quite sure if she is a he. Wikipedia says that the original Japanese character is a guy who thinks it's a girl, but newer game say otherwise. But then again the Mario Strikers site says it is a male. So.......anyone know the true story. Insert obligatory "Not this again" post here.

This brings up Yoshi. A guy possibly can't lay eggs...right?
The Japanese are seriously not as strict on homosexual characters in childrens games as we are...I personally believe that Birdo is whatever the hell you want it to be. It's very creepy and disturbing nonetheless. Nintendo should just bring up and fix this confusion once and for all. Also, would it be possible to post a scan of the manual where it says Birdo is a guy on Super Mario Strikers?

Yoshi isn't a guy. From what has been established so far, the Yoshies don't have genders - they can all lay eggs simply by eating. And yes I can provide a scan...

^ Why do they do this to us? Is this their idea of a joke? Kids play this for God's sakes. I can see it now, "little Timmy dresses up as Birdo for Halloween. His explanation? "My Wii said Birdo was a he!""

Now that I think about it, Several Pokemon are genderless so I guess Yoshi and Birdo are just the same way. I mean Ditto can mate with anything. (eww)

Not quite. Birdo has been assigned a gender (and chosen to live as the other gender). Tveye - not every society freaks out like maniacs at the decision of an individual male to wear women's clothing. Japan is a lot more tolerant of that kind of thing - whilst America flips out and starts sharpening their guns!! For someone with "TV" in their name, you'd have thought you'd have been a little more understanding

Your right, I'm not against anything like that, and I don't want to start confrontation with anyone who is or vice-versa. Also, I'm aware the Japanese are more tolerant of anything that we consider "unethical." Different culture means different views on society. I sense Birdo is no different. It may be the Japanese way of reaching out for more people to play their games. I notice homosexuality is making it's way in games and that's fine. I choose not to play a game that I don't agree in and others should too. (they shouldn't blame the company, I'm looking at you Jack Thompson) BUT...it is Nintendo, and Nintendo is a family company... Oh well, who knows what'll happen, whether it draws off sales or increases them will be determined in the future. So thus, I salute you Nintendo, for going the extra mile, even though you don't explain anything to us about this and leave the people guessing... Is Birdo a guy, is it a girl? Or is there two Birdo's...the world may never know. (sorry if my rant went on for awhile )
