I just got this game, since I knew it was a first party Nintendo title, I must say, this game is very overlooked. It's great fun.
Does anyone else play this game?
(By the way, I just got Stack Up [$5.99]... only two more blocky art carts to go!)

I hired this from the local petrol station when I was a kid. It was a BP station that isn't there any more. Back in the day when the NES was cutting edge! ;D
Anyways. I hired it once and played it. It was a lot of fun. But I have never played it since.
Wasn't it a Rare game?

Yeah, it was published by Nintendo but developed by Rare. The game was actually "licensed to" Nintendo, which means it's no more first-party than... I dunno... Mega Man 6.
But yes, it is a great game. I remember it from when I was a kid but I never owned it. Just like any good Rare game, I suck at it because I haven't sat down and given it a good play.
EDIT: As for being underrated... not really. It's ranked quite highly amongst NES games, I thought?

Yeah, I wouldn't really call it underrated, but it's still a really cool game! I've played it a few times and I loved it

I never saw anyone actually put it on their "favorite NES games" list.
I consider anything published and/or developed by Nintendo first party.
I guess I just consider it under-rated because no one really talks about it or anything.
It's definatly at least overlooked.

I would say first-party has to be developed by Nintendo and second-party has to be published exclusively by Nintendo in all regions. The rest is up to you, but even some of the games on NinDB I don't really consider Nintendo games... like Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior.

The first time I played Snake Rattle N Roll was over at my brothers friends house, and I have loved it ever since. The times when I was young and my mom would rent the NES, I would always try to rent it. Of course, with other games coming out, I wouldnt rent it every time, but I did often. After awhile, I bought a used NES and got a copy of it and played it through it. Right up there with Bubble Bobble and Rampage for me, and holds a special place in my NES collection.

One of the first game gifts I got outside of my parents was a GB game the person thought would work on my NES. Foolishness aside, my folks returned that and got me Snake Rattle N Roll instead, thinking it looked like something I'd enjoy. As a kid, it bugged the crap out of me, because the pseudo 3D was soooo weird. But when I went back all these years later, and finally played through it, I was amazed. It really was a cool game, and grossly overlooked

In all fairness, I don't think people appreciated a lot of Rareware's old stuff. Wizards & Warriors, Solar Jetman, Snake, Rattle & Roll, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. . . All these and more were quite underrated, in my opinion. Now that I'm old enough to actually appreciate these games, though, I do just that. Especially for their music.(I'm very big into the musical aspects of games, frankly.) I think the only really huge Rareware, LTD. game was Battletoads back then.

I'm big into game music myself.
Also, another Rareware game one can't forget - the wonderous Slalom.
