Diddy Kong's SSBB look isn't exactly based on his DKC looks. If it was, then he would have six toes (three on one foot). His SSBB look has ten toes (five on one foot), and it originated from the Donkey Kong titles by Paon (e.g. DK King of Swing, DK Jungle Climber, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, etc.).

What about in DK64? I though it was based on that look, as he uses the Peanut Popgun...

The new look is more cartoonish and it has 5 fingers/toes. He likely still moves like his DKC and DK64 self, but the appearance IS more akin to like... Donkey Konga, King of Swing, Mario Power Tennis, etc.

Fingers and toes aside, the rest of his appearance is very Rare-like. He has cleaner-looking fur and tanner skin. The only thing he doesn't have is blue eyes.

I think what Sakurai is trying to do is mix both his looks, co people like DK Vine members don't get angry. I like the new look either way.

Yerah, it does loom like he's newer. None of the newer artworks have him with detailed fur actually, so it's hard to tell.

But as I said before, the shade of his skin and style of his fur is taken from DKC2/DK64.

[img src="[/img] www.dkvine.com/news/gallery//dkkos/artwork/diddy.jpg"] Actaually, his color comes from none of the games. He';s always darker. It's just this modle has the fur showing. But none of the Nintendo modles had this showing as they were all 2D artworks.

As I said before, Sakurai is just trying to mix up different artworks to make an interesting outcome. And this way, his design is'nt an exact cameo.

It's still an exact cameo. He's still Diddy Kong, whatever he looks like. It's not like each different design is another character.

By that logic, the only one who is an exact reference is Kirby, and maybe Pikachu. Nobody else looks the same as they have in any other game.

It's based on it, but I'm pretty sure it's not exactly the same. If it were, the interview with Aonuma, where he talks about creating new Link, Ganon and Sheik designs for SSBB, is very strange.
