Beau - For me, the overworld aspect is very minimal to the overall picture, so I gloss over it when I talk about the game. The majority of it is spent in a side-scrolling format, so that's what I mean by being bothered. I don't mind the sidescrolling in other 2D Zeldas because it's a distraction from the main quest - here it IS the main quest, and I don't care for it.

I restarted Zelda 2 yesterday and made it up to the fourth dungeon in the maze. I've died a lot less than before, but still enough for it to be frustrating. Making it all the way to the Daira in Death Mountain who guards the Hammer and then getting a Game Over is a right pain in the bumhole.
However, now I'm more familiar with the combat tactics, where the items, spells and sword techniques are and the best order to get them, it's sped everything up a bit.

Anyone having hard time reaching the Great Palace even with the HP, MP, and ATK stats maxed out? I sure am! Even after I found all the Heart and Magic Containers... it is so frustrating trying to reach the Great Palace when the path is full of holes, one-eyed monsters, and lizard people.

Yep, it is head-bashingly annoying. Word of warning too... In the GBA version (and presumably VC) you could turn the game off and still restart at the Great Palace. The 3DS version is a direct port of the original NES version (as are all the games), so it's a bit different. On Game Over: - Choose Continue and you restart at the Great Palace. - Choose Save (or turn the game off) and you're back at the beginning Getting there is a huge pain. I found I survived a lot longer if I made sure to kill all the Moa on my way through. And make sure to use Jump magic as well. It's never guaranteed you'll make it... but just keep trying!
