Yikeys! It sure doesn't seem like a rumor, and SpaceWorld is still up in, well, space. But all of us poor chaps who are either under 18 and are not involved in the industry, yourself most likely included, than maybe we'll see other stuff. Like, wasn't CES public? I'm in shock. Oh no...
Anyway, you'll see this be a hot topic as time passes.

Yes, I read about this last night. It's absolutely nuts!
To be honest though... I only attempt to follow the Nintendo stuff, and perhaps catch up on other companies afterwards. Hopefully this will signal the restarting of Nintendo's Spaceworld (or something similar).
Still... waiting for E3 was like a tasty treat that made May a time to look forward to. Perhaps if the big exhibitors spent a little more time on showing their games then perhaps it wouldn't cost them so much.
Who knows. *sigh*
PS. This goes into NinDB General now.

At least E3 died with Nintendo as the winner.

Aww. Bad. But not really extremely bad.
What I mean by that.. First off, Nintendo will have announcement of future games anyway, and for my past experience, GAME SHOWS CANNOT BE TRUSTED. Where on earth is (insert cancelled game) now? GONE!
Then, E3 is being held on May or somewhere like that, but that's not convenient to me. I mean, students here do their exams during this period, and they probably won't be having first-hand E3 info.
And finally, maybe for me only, I want a Nintendo show, not a gaming-in-general show.

Nintendojo says "The ESA would like to see this trend further, and aim to have next years event take in an even more relaxed, intimate environment for retailers, developers and journalists alike." Hmm...E3 as relaxing. That's odd.

It may be trying to move away from the lights and noice associated with E3. I dont think we'll see too many changes, and the coverage should be all the same.

No... it is likely to be COMPLETELY different.
For a start, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft (as well as some other major exhibitors) are pulling their support, and probably favouring their own events.
They might make a small contribution, holding keynotes or having small test displays available, but just the loss of the console manufacturers will completely change the face of E3.
I suspect it will become more like the GDC. It gets coverage, but it's not exactly a huge event. SOME exclusives, but not three days solid of exclusives... and I expect we will see Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft running their own shows again before long.

TRhe coverage wont be to different, but E3 it self will. In other words its the same for us, but not for ppl who actually go.

You can emphasise it as much as you like - it still isn't true. Most of the news from E3 comes via the console manufacturers, and if they're pulling out then that will significantly change the kind of news output you get from E3.
And it won't be much the same for people who go. E3 has traditionally been queues, crowding, parties and noise. Most of that will disappear now.
Frankly, it will be a completely different event. Hardly E3 at all - except for what remains of the videogames.

I think I'm one of those minority gamers who really isn't that concerned. To me, it's hardly a big deal at all. It's not like the Wii was cancelled or something.

Now THAT is serious. But it's not the case. Actually I quite feel the same. It's just E3, not a particular game or something.

Sweet Molly Jesus! Doesn't anyone here read anything apart from headlines? We know it isn't cancelled. Because all of the big publishers are moving away from it, it has been significantly cut down. Not overhauled - that means improving it. No, it's being cut down to a pale shadow of its former self. With no big publishers and a significantly cut down event, it's going to try and become a small show (like the GDC). If it loses any more support then it's likely to vanish forever.
