The fact the Gamecube is the favoured system is interesting. It reminds me of around a year ago, Edge magazine had a very bored person write in to their letters page... they had tallied up all the scores to work out the mean average "best system for games" - and it was the N64. Still... good to see Melee is right up top, and Yoshi's Island is in the top 5. I never expect it to do that well - my influence must be infectious

Wouldn't the tie make them joint 10th and 11th place, making Smash Bros 12, etc, etc?
Also, "With a list like this, you'd swear we were on a Nintendo forum or something"
Also Melee number 1 makes me sad. I mean, I love Melee, but if you did this exact poll this time next year without a doubt it will be much lower and replaced with Brawl... so how does that make it 'BEST EVAAAAAAAAH'?
EDIT: By the way, nice work Nester.
Also, what were the actual points for the positions? I would like ot see how much Fry and I's Yoshi's Island love forced it up the charts.

The same could be said of most of the games on here, though. Would Mario Sunshine still be so high up after Galaxy's release? Would Paper Mario 2 still be up there when Paper Mario 3 is out? I'd take any of the more recent titles with a pinch of salt. Games like Twilight Princess would likely be lower on the list than games like ALttP if they weren't the most recent game in the series. The real winners are games like Mario 64 and Yoshi's Island. Over ten years old and still that high? They've stood the test of time.

But at least, say, Mario Sunshine isn't going to be completely usurped by Galaxy, as it still has its own story / levels / mechanics / whatever, whereas with Melee, its just gonna be 'Brawl -'. Probably. Some guy will come and claim its better because you can teh wavedash and the ground based combat is better or some stupid thing, but it basically will be overwritten, methinks.

Wouldn't the tie make them joint 10th and 11th place, making Smash Bros 12, etc, etc? I prefer to have two games occupy one place because it seems to me that if one of the games spills over into 11th place, it isn't really a tie. Consequently, we end up with 26 games occupying 25 spaces. I was thinking this would be like an annual thing, so this list only represents opinions for this year. (Which also explains the heavy GameCube slant.) Thanks! I debated with myself as to how I should tally the results, and I ultimately came up with two methods: one emphasized individual votes, while the other heavily favored games that appeared on multiple lists. Both methods had their pros and cons, but I ultimately went with the former because it was simpler. In the case of Yoshi's Island, it appeared on 8 of the 14 votes, and was relatively high on those lists, which is why it placed so high. My main concern was cutting down the occurrence of ties. If two or more games received the same score, I would break the tie based on the number of votes each got. If the vote count was the same, it went through to the tiebreaker vote. I'll try to update the list to include scores and vote counts.

So I was the only one voting for Famitan? Oh, you should see how text games actually deserve some praise!
Also a tad surprised to see SMW above SMB3.
