Shoutbox

nocturnal YL: I'm at Part IX now, which is pretty close to the end. It's a very positive experience so far; I especially like how the story unfolds. I generally like the latter half of the game better, although that's something I say for most story-driven games. Sept 18, 2024 10:41:33 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: And speaking of the story, I used to think basing the story setting on real life is a way to get around needing to be creative, but it does have a less obvious benefit: letting new players know what the story is up to without a huge lore dump. Sept 18, 2024 10:51:05 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: Started Echoes of Wisdom. I've finished the first dungeon, and so far, the only bad thing is that there's a stealth sequence right near the beginning of the game. But at least it's gotten out of the way early. (Unless there are more.) Sept 26, 2024 14:39:14 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian is announced in TGS, with little information known. It's not Resleriana on console like some people thought; it features a new set of protagonists. This might be a spinoff from the JP title. Sept 28, 2024 2:39:16 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: The JP title is The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian: Atelier Resleriana. "Resleriana" is a portmanteau of the names of three characters in that game, while this game has new protags, so I get the feeling that this is a side story. Sept 28, 2024 2:44:24 GMT -5 *
nocturnal YL: Random thought: my favourite enemy in Ys so far is Nygtilger. It forces the player to observe and think, more so than other bosses. It's a bit disappointing that this kind of puzzle boss doesn't return in Ys X. Sept 29, 2024 13:16:26 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Super Mario 64 without the A button is almost a reality. Sept 30, 2024 11:29:53 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: Just as Super Mario Bros Wonder refreshed my appreciation for 2D Mario, I think Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is refreshing my appreciation for top-down Zelda. Sept 30, 2024 16:25:40 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: F-ZERO CLIMAX and GP Legend on NSO, and F-ZERO 99 adds BS F-ZERO courses. Cool. Oct 2, 2024 7:55:10 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: ^ I'm looking forward to trying out the new F-Zero 99 content! Oct 2, 2024 8:27:37 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Nintendo announced new hardware… just not the kind people would expect. Alarmo, the Nintendo-themed motion-sensor clock, is now available from Nintendo's official stores. Oct 9, 2024 9:43:52 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Japan's My Nintendo Store got too many orders of Alarmo, and they're now having to pause sales of the device. Oct 10, 2024 10:12:57 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Nintendo is going to to a Nintendo Switch Online playtest. We don't know what what is, but I'm guessing another 99-style game. They need 10000 people to test, and it requires software download, so it's likely not retro games or system-level functions. Oct 10, 2024 10:15:35 GMT -5 *
Nester the Lark: I finally finished Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and I loved it! BUT! How did I like it compared to Tears of the Kingdom??? 🤔 Oct 10, 2024 13:17:34 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: There's a small update to my YouTube channel, adding mini-reviews of the last few games I played. Oct 14, 2024 9:23:24 GMT -5
Nester the Lark: The demo for Ys X is out in Western regions now, and the save data carries over to the main game, so I guess I get to start playing it a little early. Oct 15, 2024 9:20:06 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Just started and finished WarioWare: Move It! (it's WarioWare, so a basic playthrough takes only 2 hours.) I went from having long breaks between games to being on a new game spree, having done 3 games in just a month and a half. Oct 16, 2024 14:00:57 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I expect to slow down again, though, since the remaining games I have are longer. Ys X, Wreckfest and WarioWare are all short games; meanwhile I still have Sakuna and a few visual novels to play before I'm buying new ones. Oct 16, 2024 14:04:53 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I also still haven't touched Fatal Frame 5 and Atelier Marie Remake, but I'm going to group them up for an even lengthier Gust marathon in the future. Oct 16, 2024 14:06:20 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: On the topic of WarioWare, I'm glad to finally see a new entry that doesn't have unnecessarily difficult boss games. The motion control does take a lot of getting used to, though. It's less intuitive than Smooth Moves, which remains my favourite WarioWare. Oct 16, 2024 14:10:40 GMT -5
