I also find it ammusing that after all the "Nintendo better not make a Zelda spinoff" discussion that followed after the announcement of Metroid Pinball, that since its Tingle nobody seems to care anymore.

And Paratroopa appears in Mario Basketball. And its Wi-Fi enabled. Excellent!
EDIT: And Mario Basketball is being developed by Square-Enix!

I will kill to see a geme where the main playable character is Tetra! I always thought that nintendo should spinoff her to her own series (and keep that series with the WW style).

I still find strange that the first Zelda character to star his own game is Tingle and not Zelda, but who is complaining?
with luck this game will make fun of the Zelda series just as Wario did with the Mario series.

The mascot character from Zelda: Wind Waker gets his own RPG on the DS. We've seen a screenshot, but it's so confusing that we don't know what to make of it yet.

Densetsu no Starfy 4

Starfy is a Japan-only platform series from Nintendo that has seen three quality releases on the GBA and is now coming to the DS. Gameplay seems to take place on the top screen and sticks to the 2D roots of the series, with the bottom screen displaying what appears to be a map.

Kaitou Wario

The name of Wario's new DS platformer translates to "Thief Wario." The bottom screen shows a 2D stage with the top screen featuring what appears to be a map.

Detect Hacker

An adventure game featuring anime-style characters and 2D artwork. The game seems to take place in modern-day Tokyo. Red Entertainment, the developer of the Sakura Wars series, is listed as the game's developer.

New Super Mario Brothers

We don't have any new details on Mario's return to side-scrolling platforming, but Nintendo did reveal today that the game won't come out in Japan until 2006. Also, the name "New Super Mario Brothers" seems to be the final title (this wasn't announced by Nintendo -- Nintendo's official materials just don't list "working title" next to the name).

Oideyo Doubutsu no Mori

This is the final Japanese title for Animal Crossing DS, and the name translates to "Come to Animal Forest," when translated directly into English. Nintendo of America has gone with its own name, Animal Crossing: Wild World. The Japanese version is set for 11/23, the start of Nintendo's wi-fi program in Japan. We'll have more details shortly.

Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training

The full name for this game is (please take a deep breath before reading) Touhoku Daigaku Mirai Kagaku Gijutsu Kyodou Kenkyuu Center Kawashima Ryuta Kyoujuu Kanhuu Motto Nou wo Kitaeru Otona no DS Training. This is a followup to the original DS brain training game that's already sold half a million copies in Japan. The titles may look the same, except for the "Motto" in the middle of the sequel's name. "Motto" is Japanese for "More."

Eigo ga Nigate na Otona no DS Training

Another adult-oriented title from Nintendo, this one will apparently train users in the English language. The name translates to "Adult DS training for people who are bad at English."

Based off a comic, the GBA games had you play as a school principal ("Ojiisan" is what you'd call an old man in Japanese) out to defend the Earth from invaders. Details on the DS version haven't been revealed, but the GBA games combined action and mini games.

This third puzzle game from Hudson is based off the Sudoku number game. A board is split into nine rows and columns. The resulting squares are further split into 3x3 groups. The game starts off with some of the squares filled in with numbers between 1 and 9. You have to fill in the rest of the numbers so that each row, column and 3x3 grouping uses the digits 1 to 9 only once. Here's an online version to try out. This particular puzzle game has been brought to game consoles before.

News of this game was actually leaked last week. Based on the name, we presume the Ys series is being converted into a strategy game. No details have been revealed.

This list includes just the new titles that were announced at Nintendo's press conference today. Including the likes of Winning Eleven, Xenosaga, Monster Farm and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Nintendo and its third parties have a number of other games in development as well, making 2006 look like a good year to own the DS.

Not to mention Square dropping Final Fantasy III ( ds.ign.com/articles/656/656107p1.html ) and Children of Mana ( ds.ign.com/articles/656/656152p1.html ) on the DS, too. Woo!

Isn't it strange that the DS and GBA are getting so many square-enix games (including a bunch of Final Fantasies) while the PSP has had, what, Advent Children? Just seems odd to me.

Also worth bringing up that at Planet Gamecube they bring up the possibility of Geno appearing SSBR now. While I'm not sure if that would actually happen, I'd be surprised if he and a bunch of other cast SMRPG didn't appear in some sort of Mario spinoff soon (Mario Basketball is an obvious contender). So will they possibly port SMRPG to the GBA / DS? We can only hope.

If it's a game with Tingle in the lead role and Tingle is from the Zelda universe, then the Tingle game is a Zelda spin-off.

I don't share the same passion for Tingle as some people here, but a Tingle game ought to be quite fun.
He's a part of the Zelda series that I suppose is getting a game of his own.
As long as the Zelda spin-off series remain as adventure games, and not sports titles... ;D
So far the "Four Swords" spin-off series has stayed true, and the "Tingle" spin-off seems to be an adventure game - I think it should be fun to have Tingle as the first Zelda-related game on the DS - here's hoping we get some real Link action later though...

I like the "Mario Kart" games, but they're kind of in a different sub-genre to the sports spin-offs.

A Bowser game would be very, very cool!
I'd like to see some sort of Bowser game where minions are somehow incorporated, and they do what you tell them to do, or something.

Waluigi should be worked into a Wario platformer if you ask me - maybe we'll see that happen in this new one... who knows?

The screenshot for that Wario game looks... well... ugly. I've loved the Wario games for their impressive spritework and all that, but that one screen just looks a bit... cruddy.

But no worries. I don't doubt the final game will actually be the awesomeness! ;D

And yes, now that my DS is starting to prove itself with solid software releases over here (Meteos and Advance Wars), I'm seriously looking forward to some of these.

Personally I'm annoyed that Tingle of all people gets a game to himself, whilst more popular characters such as Luigi, Wario and DK do not. The thought that I'll have to put up with him in TP isn't very pleasing either...unless he gets taken over by the Apariod from SF Assault, and you have to kill him in order to 'rescue' him.
