Not sure which forum this really belongs in, but whatever.
I've been hearing some people refer to him/her as male and others female (despite being Zelda's alter ego).
I don't think they really classified it in OoT, but if they did, I'm sure he/she was referred to as a male. So I don't get how Sheik can be referred to as a female.
What do you think?

Ruto refers to Sheik as "him", so Sheik is supposed to be a male.
However, it seems that they gave a female voice to Sheik in SSBM, which isn't that unforgiveable because you learn that Sheik is Zelda when you read the SSBM instruction booklet no matter if you played OoT or not.

It's the same deal as Samus Aran being referred to as Male in the original Metroid manual. It's a case of mysterious disguise syndrome.
Sheik is supposed to be a male disguise for a female. If you caught Sheik in the nude, you would see female bits, because it's Zelda. Impa is trying to help Sheik maintain the disguise, so of course she plays along with it.
If someone refers to Sheik as male or female, either way is fine by me. The character of Sheik is male, but the disguisee (if you will) is female.

In Pokemon, Yellow from the Viridian City Countryside was mistaken as a male and i just realize that the boy who stole Totodile (Silver) was originally born in Viridian, Kanto.

I assume he's talking about the comics, instead of the games or TV show... at least I hope he is... either that or he's gone barmy.

Wasn't the Thief from GSC supposed to be Giovanni's son? But I suppose there is speculation Ash is, too, which is stupid.
Randomness is fun!

Wasn't the Thief from GSC supposed to be Giovanni's son? Seems like it... they dropped hints in FireRed & LeafGreen, at least...

No... He's known as Red in RBY. He's known as Gold in GSC... No... "Ash" is the highest level boss battle in Gold/Silver, and yes, he's called Red in it.

But I suppose there is speculation Ash is, too, which is stupid. Isn't Ash known as Red in GSC?? But I've only ever seen that rumoured applied to the main character of the TV show, not the games. Hence why I used 'Ash' rather than 'Red'. I'm pretty sure Red in GSC is referred to as 'Red' - what else would they call him?

He IS referred to as Red in GSC. As in "RED wants to battle!" "RED chooses Venusaur!" etc. He can't be nameless during battle.
