www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2006/ds/01_starfox/ss02.htmlJust a direct link to the screens on Nintendo Japan. This reminds me a little of the canned Star Fox 2; it looks like each pilot gets their own custom ship, and you get to fly around a map in the "overworld" Peppy's back too!

Apparently you draw the route you will take around the stage, then that becomes your on-rails route. You then shoot down enemies as you do in the original games.
But yes, it seems to have a little bit of the cancelled StarFox 2 about it.

The only thing that worries me is the presence of the timer shown in the E3 video. None of the previous star fox games had a time limit (except certain bits in Lylatwars) so I don't see why this game has one.

None of the previous star fox games had a time limit (except certain bits in Lylatwars) so I don't see why this game has one. And one level in StarFox Assault. Look at this guys: img132.imagevenue.com/img.php?loc=loc242&image=66461_Starfox_Command_F914r.jpgStarWolf back, Slippy in love, Krystal and Fox having problems, Krystal in pink, Peppy the new Gen. Pepper, and finally Falco having giant metal bird feather-like things on his arwing! And that E3 screenshot isn't Peppy, it's a girl bunny!

I can't help but notice that the character art/models keep getting uglier and uglier. They looked great in SF Adventures. Now they look kind of like muppets.

I've never actually played a Star Fox game, but does it really matter all that much what the character models look like? I seems like you're going to be spending most of your time in the Ar Wing.

Aye, the character renders have gotten quite poor for this one...shockingly so, I might say. SF Assault looked far better. SF Adventures, too. I'd almost go back far enough to say that SF64's designs look better. I don't care for this new style at all. Thankfully, as wanderingshadow notes, the characters are in Arwings, so the game will be fine. It's just showing love for the game that'll be difficult.

Well, it's not something that would prevent me from buying the game, if that's what you mean. But I'm still allowed to have an opinion about it, aren't I? I happen to like the Star Fox characters (as you can see), and it's a little disappointing for me to see them go from the great models we saw in Super Smash Bros Melee and Star Fox Adventures to the strange proportions and clothing of Assault and Command. I didn't mean to make it sound like a big deal, I was just expressing a preference in artistic style. Kind of like if some game had great official artwork, and then the follow-ups had very unattractive official artwork.

Yes the character art looks stupid, but if we can live with "Wii" I think we can live with this. Beides its Starfox the way it SHOULD be.
Also why do Krystal an Slippy have they assult cloths yet Fox and Falco have the 64 ones. Also can anyone find a artwork for Wolf from 64. You'd make my dreams come true.

I think as far as Wolf artwork from SF64 goes, you'll be lucky to find any. Nearly all of the official art was of the ships in aerial battles, and the character art was basically their polygons (which the StarWolf team probably didn't have, as you never see them out of their ship).
Looks like they've finally started building on the story this time around (StarFox Adventures was disappointing in this regard, but StarFox Assault started tying it all together neatly).
I agree about the character models. However, most of the time I don't like the StarFox character models. The original SNES game's official art (read: actual furry figurines) and SSBM's rebuild were the only ones I had any time for. Adventures was too... Rare, and Assault's were more detailed, but what's with Fox's evil teeth?!

One day I need to unlock my coven of StarFox artwork.
I'm not overly concerned with the new artwork, it's just a different style. If the game is returning the series to its roots, that's what I'm more concerned about. Maybe we'll see old Bill Grey and Katt Monroe again.

I'm not particularly bothered about the artwork... I just wish it was better.
I will still play and enjoy the game. Hell, I loved Assault, and most people seem to (wrongly) believe that it was rubbish. Even the on-foot sections were delightfully StarFoxy.
But a whole game behind the controls of an Arwing (and others) again? Why, that's worthy of a stylus-prodding, wouldn't you say?
