The stock fon't isn't anti-alised like the ones in YIDS do.
It looks like font exported into vector image then trned into bitmap. Something like Fireworks or Flash's doing.

I dislike the fact that Yoshi can only run whilst carrying Baby Mario on his back. And the fact that there is a 'gap' between the top and bottom screens.

I still think it should've used the arrows to move Yoshi and use the touch screen instead of buttons to make him jump, throw eggs and stick his tongue out. Tap Yoshi and he jumps. Drag the stylus starting from Yoshi, and the egg throw cursor appears. Tap somewhere else than Yoshi to use his tongue - more directions available, perhaps even controllable tongue length. Tapping to jump could be a little difficult, though, but that could be considered when designing levels. Or how about jumping by pressing a shoulder button? It would get a little complicated, but touching is good.
Yeah, anyway, Yoshi's Island DS' story is hanging onto the game for its dear life, the graphics don't match with each other, the music doesn't match the graphics, the mini games are kind of random (and sucky), and in order to get 100 points you'll often have to bust your balls and not your brains. It isn't a bad game, though. It has potential. With a little (or moar) tweaking here and there something truly great could've come out.
Oh, and more things like the number balls and less things like the bouncing Chomps to level design. Please.

As far as being a game on its own, tho? I found YIDS to be pretty fun. It has a challenge, a unique use of the two screens, and clever replay value, searching for the character coins and the secret levels.
Compared to the original however, it pales in comparison. And not because of controls or the lack of any decent plot. It's the presentation.
-The music is awful. It's not something I can whistle to, or get worked up by. -The bosses are embarassingly easy and poorly designed. Defeating them warrants little celebration either...a door just appears. And there's no V-sign! -A lot of the sprites were stolen from the original SNES game, making them look very out of place. Bowser's sprite is AWFUL. The final boss fight is contrived and meaningless. -Some of the levels are challenging, but well beyond the level of challenge presented in the original. wtf? It was a challenge 100 percenting the SNES game, sure. But not this insane! -The babies become very limiting, and the fact that you can only have Wario/Bowser for certain levels? Pretty lame. There are too many negatives with the babies that AREN'T Mario (or DK).
Otherwise..looking past ALL that (;p) it WAS enjoyable. I did play it nonstop till I beat it, and I AM enjoying going back and finding everything I missed. That, in the end, made it worth purchase.

I can't fault you for enjoying it while recognising the game has its problems. Although I'd hardly say it has a unique use of the two screens.
