It may be nothing more than an in-joke, but even on that level, it's pretty cool. IGN reports that Metroid Prime 3 references Metroid Dread in one of its scans. Check the article for a screenshot. Perhaps it's worth noting that (I think) this is the first time Nintendo has ever officially acknowledged Dread, whether it ever existed or not.

Retro is also an American developer. In my experience, westwern developers are a lot more keen on little jokes and tibits in their game.
I do hope that we'll actually see something. The DS is a big hit, and it could use a 2D Metroid. Let's see what 2008 has.

Yeah, they're probably just pulling our leg. It would be awesome if it is true, though I'm sure we'll get a new 2D Metroid eventually.

I was thinking about the Metroid Dread project this weekend. I love the 2D Metroid games, and this sounds like a neat little hint Although it does make me worry that Metroid Dread might be being developed in America... by NST, perhaps...

The 2D metroid games I found far better than Hunters DS, I didnt really like that game to be honest. The FPS games derserve a more powerful system and prime is awesome on consoles.

Well, they would have to make it 2D/3D. Just like Kirby 64 or New Super Mario Bros.

NSMB wasn't 2/3D (2 1/2D as I think it's usually called). It was 2D with 3D character models. Quite different. There was no difference between that and the old games.

Metroid's always been very...2D. They should up it a bit by at least making the characters and backrounds 3D. You don't have to do all the fancy 3D maneuvers like in Kirby 64 or Sonic Rush.

But I much prefer good spritework, personally. I mean it'd probably look great if it was 3D models, but sprites are an excellent, though dying, breed.

I would totally be up for a new 2D Metroid. Fusion was excellent and I could use another good game like it.

Heh. I wonder if Dread is turning into the "Super Mario 128" of the Metroid series. People will keep waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and no matter how many other real Metroid games get released, they'll still keep waiting for Dread.

Although it does make me worry that Metroid Dread might be being developed in America... by NST, perhaps... Depends on who it is. NTS isn't bad, but they atre hardly great. They have made some good games, but they have yet to make a pile of pixles. Retro on the other hand could make a great one. They have a good deal of experience in the franchise and could probobly bring new items in, or something.

Plus, they now seem to be finished with the Prime trilogy, which leaves us to wonder what they'll be working on next. A different Nintendo franchise, an original game or another Metroid game?

I'm guessing that Retro will stick to Metroid and cause Metroid to become...sorta...second party...does it even work that way?

Retro Studios is in Austin, TX. Same place as Richard Gariott. C'mon. Was Metroid Prime 1 that bad?
