Love the Olimar... but I'll have none of this "Pikmin 2 is too long" daftness. I like having a game it's taken me ages to complete. I finish most of them in a weekend (if that)... having a game I can keep coming back to with new challenges is something I love and want to see more of.
And don’t tell me you weren’t expecting this, probably the most obvious of all, this picture in particular ended quite fugly. My bros always told me that pikachus doesn’t have a neck and that that’s why it look so strange, but I think its something in the face, I was planning on redo this Pikachu pic, but it might be latter.
And Icymatt my previous pic for the bug warrior was Mr. Game and Watch, he didn’t make sense and he just got there thanks to Melee (besides is stupid to ask for new Game and watch games ever generation which is also one of the points of the 15 warriors), so Olimar is a much better choice. And yes the Rare sell affected greatly this project, but I think both Sami and Marth make much better choice for the Chosen 15 (I will post a pic with all the rejects latter).
And fry, there are some games that are, at least to me, to long, good examples are Banjo-Tooie, Harvest Moon a Wonderful life, and Pikmin 2 mainly because I lost interest midway thought the game, I might return to them some time (right now I just returned to Metroid prime 2) but with Pikmin I doubt I ever will get the last special movie, even thought I did save Hocotate fright, even if the President reminded me of my boss (maybe that’s why I don feel compelled to continue playing, if you know what I mean )
“Revenge is always good, unless someone is taking ravenge on you“
Stanley the Bugman could have been Bug as well Forgot about him, didn't you?
As for Pikachu, he's always a weird one to draw. I always draw him really stubby with no neck at all... basically a ball with a face, limbs and tail:
My Steel/Dark suggestions... Samus would have made a good Steel... but my vote goes to Sukapon... or ROB the Robot! And Dark... why... there's your Mr. Game & Watch category right there
EDIT: As for long games... I like them in moderation. If all of my games were as long as Pikmin 2 then I probably would tire of never getting to the end of a game. After all my complaints that Nintendo games are, on the whole, short experiences - I still haven't gotten around to completing the longer ones: Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime 1+2, Pokemon Colosseum and Pikmin 2 are sitting unloved. But sometimes a game grips me until the end... Marios and Zeldas usually.
You know, a good candidate for Ice other than Samus would have been Mia from Golden Sun. I've yet to fully play the game (only the introductory stuff), but if I'm not mistaken, her element is Ice. Then, if Dark and Steel were included, Samus could nab the Steel position, and Dark would be left to, as Fry suggested, Game and Watch (though a more "evil" hero would be better)
Edit: You know, now that I think of it, Takamaru would've been much cooler as a Steel Warrior
Edit 2: And I just realized I correctly guessed Wario for Poison ;D *natch times two*
Mario was an obvious choice, but Luigi not so much; still, if you look at the bros personalities, I think their fit. Now I should mention a few of the reasoning as to why my pics for every elemental warrior:
1) The list is based on the cast from the original SSB (minus Jigglypuff, which I feel doesn’t fit in the cast)
2) Every character represents a popular Nintendo franchise (Luigi could represent the Mario spin-offs)
3) I didn’t chose any obscure characters for the lineup only Nintendo most popular ones (most of Fryguys pick make more sense than mine element wise, but is mainly comprised by obscure characters)
4) I only chose main characters.
5) Every of the represented franchises must have possibilities for a sequel (that’s also why I stayed away from obscure franchises or ones without possibilities of a sequel like Mr. Game and Watch)
6) Every character is Owned by Nintendo (or at least Co-owned)
Now with all this said, I would like to hear your pics for both Steel and Dark, and I Might do the characters that most people agree with. My personal pics for these elements are:
-Steel: Ray legend (from Custom Robot) -Dark: Pious (from Eternal Darkness, that’s of course if Nintendo still owns the franchise)
You could also make some changes, like Making Samus the steel warrior, but in that case provide a substitute.
“Revenge is always good, unless someone is taking ravenge on you“
You know, I was thinking the other night that you might make the Bros. a pair for one element, either Fire or Water (they chuck fireballs or they fix pipes), but then I realized you might do this instead. Bravo, flint. I really enjoyed this series, as you could tell! ;D
Personally, I feel Samus could've been the ghost warrior or shadow warrior, because she's a bounty hunter, and they hide in the shadows...and then there was that phazon stuff...but Falcon wouldn't have fit most anywhere else...So, she's good where she is.
Nester the Lark: I was thinking how I considered the original Donkey Kong Country to be a generic Super Mario Bros clone with fancy graphics, but SMB Wonder only just caught up to the level of quality that DKC Tropical Freeze gave us almost a decade ago.
Nov 20, 2023 14:57:21 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: This is surprising. I see DKC as the least Mario-like platformer to feature a Mario character. The Wario Land games still feature Mario-style blocks and pipes, for example, while DKC lacks many Mario elements.

Nester the Lark: True that DKC lacks a lot of specific Mario-like details, but it has the basic gameplay in that you run, jump, and defeat enemies by landing on them. I didn't see it as having much more than this, thus why I considered it generic.

Evie ❤✿: Yeah, psychologically there is a 'first example' thing. When something new is released and is thought to be innovative, and becomes popular it can lead to comparing newer games to be like it (so we have newer genres like "Metroidvania").
Nov 24, 2023 18:28:16 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: I find it interesting with platformers, it's less often that we regard platform games after Mario as "Mario-like". On this note, I also find it interesting how certain genres are treated differently.
Nov 24, 2023 18:29:32 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: In addition to the "platform" (rather than Mario-like) and Metroidvania examples (incidentally there were games like Metroid and Castlevania before their release), some games are seen as "rip-offs" if people think they're too similar.
Nov 24, 2023 18:31:26 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: An example is how some people treat Fossil Fighters, Robopon, Yo-Kai Watch as Pokémon 'rip-offs' or clones, and the 'monster-battling' genre is often seen as less 'mainstream' than something like 'platformer'.
Nov 24, 2023 18:32:39 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: Also on that note, often people on databases, wikis, etc. stick to only a few genre labels like "platform", "arcade", "fighting", "racing" etc. but there are many more ways to describe a game.
Nov 24, 2023 18:35:03 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: The developers may choose to advertise their game using their own genre, so for instance Starfy was given the label "marine action" in Japan rather than "platformer". I think in essence these don't exist in isolation though.
Nov 24, 2023 18:36:28 GMT -5
Evie ❤✿: It also reminds me of how there was apparently a debate on whether NES The Legend of Zelda is an adventure game or RPG (or something like that).

Nester the Lark: Happy 6th anniversary to my favorite RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles 2!

nocturnal YL: The Super Mario Bros. Wonder speedruns don't feel much like Mario speedruns. Any% takes more than 80 minutes, and features slow Wonder Seed segments and a lot of loading time. They're rather boring to watch compared to even the New SMB games.

nocturnal YL: I've got a lot of Nintendo Switch demos that I haven't got to play. At this rate I'll never clear my backlog even if I don't buy anything.
Dec 2, 2023 10:36:45 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: I've finally finished Ciel nosurge DX. Its end is directly connected to the beginning of Ion's part in Ar nosurge DX, which means I'll have to play through that to experience the whole story.
Dec 2, 2023 12:45:14 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Going through everything takes more time than finishing an entire quadrilogy in the Atelier series. I think it'll be another few months before I even touch another game.
Dec 2, 2023 12:46:32 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Also, this is of no use to most people reading this, but Surge Concerto confusingly has save data bonus that goes both ways. To experience the story in chronological order, do Sekai Link in Ar nosurge DX as soon as possible, then play Ciel nosurge DX.
Dec 2, 2023 13:05:55 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Any advice you find online about needing to advance Ar nosurge's story to a certain point does not apply to the DX version. Just make the save data and leave it behind to avoid Ciel nosurge spoilers and not understanding Ar nosurge's story.
Dec 2, 2023 13:07:17 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: (By the way, the PS3 and PS Vita versions of Ar nosurge is available in English, but not Ciel nosurge. The DX version is entirely Japan-only. I have much to complain when it comes to localisation for both Gust and the whole of KOEI TECMO GAMES.)

Nester the Lark: Been a bit busy recently and haven't had a chance to respond to things until now.
Dec 7, 2023 10:50:24 GMT -5
nocturnal YL: Stories I've read that deal with fantasy races tend to have only a few named members in those races, and those tend to be outlier individuals. We don't get to know generic members in great detail. One exception is Xenoblade, which does the exact opposite.
