Well, I had a thread about this in the Contemporary Nintendo forum, but I think I'm about to get on a Resident Evil kick, so I decided to update with the latest info. Of course, the couple of reports from a Capcom forum moderator that a trailer for Umbrella Chronicle would be shown last year unfortunately didn't amount to anything. However, Capcom apparently reconfirmed that it is still scheduled for release in 2007. In addition, at Capcom's official forum, Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Research, Christian Svensson, responded to a post hoping for more info on Resident Evil 5 and Umbrella Chronicles at Capcom's upcoming press event on April 12th. He said, "You may be slightly pleased and slightly disappointed then," which seems to imply that there will be news about one, but not the other. So, maybe we'll get lucky this time.

I can't wait to see more on both Resi Evils, as I'm interested to see just what the game play is for both and just how beautiful (please let the Wii one be beautiful) they both look.

Even though I'm aware of what Umbrella is within the series... the name still makes me laugh.
I've never actually owned an RE game (heehee, Religious Education). Maybe it's time to change that...

Last I heard, the name "Umbrella Chronicles" was tentative, so it could change. (It does sound kinda stupid. ) The graphics for RE4, the REmake, and even RE0, still look great on the 'Cube. The new game should look at least as good on the Wii. (And remember what Eiji Aonuma said about Twilight Princess's graphics, and it still looked terrific.) On a slightly related note, check out the reaction from Sony fans about the news that Devil May Cry 4 (formerly a PS3 exclusive) would also be released on the 360 and PC. It reminds me of how I felt when it was first announced that RE4 would be ported to the PS2. I guess the shoe is on the other foot, now.

Besides, it's not the end of the world. Theys still get to play the game.

^ Heh. I don't know if "we" acted that way about RE4 since I didn't join this forum until the following year. What I meant to say is that it's amusing to see a similar situation from the other side. I was disappointed to hear about RE4 going multi-console for the same fanboyish reasons, altho I never resorted to whining, online petitions, or threatening to boycott. (Really, who are they kidding?) It was strictly about wanting to see my favorite console gain something exclusive that would be desirable in the eyes of other fanboys (read: jealous). It was ridiculous, and I knew that even then. I just wanted to see Nintendo get a break. So now that I see the ruckus about DMC4, I know it's fueled by the exact same thing. And I can smile, nod and say "the world is still spinnin' 'round."

But the GC was losing, and RE4 was GC's untainted baby, and Sony stole it. We weren't in a very good mood, we were just about at our lowest point.
Sony fanboys are morons.

Aye. Anyone too blinded by their devotion to *insert gaming company here* need to take off said blinders and look at the big picture. There's a lot of good stuff for everything, really. Focusing on just one thing limits the overall enjoyment one could have.
Anyway, I can't wait to hear more about RE:UC. RE4 was amazing, and this game's running on its engine, but with Wiimote aiming. Ought to at least be entertaining. ^_^

According to rehorror.net, the latest issue of Famitsu includes an article about Umbrella Chronicles, as well as an official confirmation for the Wii port of Resident Evil 4. RE Horror provided an amateur translation (noting that it should be taken with a grain of salt) suggesting that the game would be a rail shooter, like Gun Survivor or House of the Dead, but would also include QTE's. However, the scans show a 3rd person view of Chris performing a melee attack. Another shows both Chris and Jill in the same scene, suggesting a two-player co-op mode. Other characters shown include Rebecca Chambers, Billy Cohen (from RE0), and Albert Wesker. As for RE4, it will include all the extras from the PS2 version, and of course, gesture-based QTE's. A typical Capcom milking of a franchise. It's been confirmed that the RE4 engine was being ported to the Wii, but it was assumed to be for Umbrella Chronicles. It seems that may have been wrong. But until a more specific translation of the Famitsu article surfaces, we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Still, I love arcade-style games as much as adventure games, so even if it isn't what I was expecting, hopefully it could still be a fun shooter. Here are the scans: Umbrella Chronicles page 1, page 2 and page 3. RE4: Wii Edition page 1 and page 2. EDIT: Here's IGN's article. They say that despite being on rails, there will still be branching paths, and you can the camera angle manually (apparently to find hidden items and such).

I do have to say that RE:UC being a rail shooter disappointed me. I was hoping for a game more along the lines of RE4's Merc mode...which is what the game was initally pegged to be in the first place. *sigh* I will withhold my full judgment until I get a chance to try it out, though.
As for RE4 Wii, now I can sell my PS2 RE4. ^_^ Woo! Upgrade the extra mission graphics to the GC level and I'll be happy.

Here's the Japanese trailer from the official site in Flash format. There's not much to it, really, but it does look cool. Nice graphics. EDIT: Just wanted to add this. It's the official Japanese site for Biohazard 4: Wii Edition. I think the way they seem to be portraying it is kind of funny. Nothing says "good, clean fun" like Resident Evil.

Same. I'm a bit nervous that it will suck(like Survivor), but it's a game the Wii is made for, plaus the RE games have only gotten better over time. So, it ciould all work out. Or at least, I sure hope it does.

The official Japanese websites for Umbrella Chronicles and Biohazard 4: Wii Edition have been updated with new trailers. There still isn't much to see with Umbrella Chronicles, but the destructible environments are cool. The girl from the Biohazard 4 website always looked a bit like Ashley to me, and now I know why. Perhaps there will be more news later today.
EDIT: Here are two hands-on articles for Umbrella Chronicles: Gamespot, IGN. A few interesting parts from IGN: "Kawata is promising that the title will run between 15 and 20 hours long and while many of the environments will look familiar -- you'll play through portions of Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 -- this will be the first time most of them have been realized in true 3D." "There is a chance that Umbrella Chronicles can be played by more than a single person. Asked about a multiplayer mode, the producer responded: 'We're still looking into it so I really can't say anything definite right now.'" "The title has been in development for nearly a year with a team 40 people strong, according to Kawata-san, and is scheduled for a summer release on Wii."
