www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3163790No idea what it's for, but I'm both excited...and cautious, about this news. I love Skies, but can the Sega of today keep it as awesome as before? It's something to truly ponder. If Sonic Team ends up being behind it, I'll be crying in the corner.

You beat me to it, Wildcat! I caught it on Kotaku, but it's from the same source. I wouldn't get too excited about a rumor that comes out of nowhere, but it sure is a random time for this to pop up.

If Sonic Team ends up being behind it, I'll be crying in the corner. Why would Sonic Team be in charge of a game Overworks created?

Overworks, for all intents and purposes, no longer exists. When Sammy took over Sega, the only development teams that weren't reshuffled into a "general" Sega group were AM2 and Sonic Team. And dev teams these days get handed outside properties all the time - Sega's been doing that a lot with their older franchises lately. Alien Syndrome was done by Totally Games, Sumo Digital is working on the new Superstar Tennis game (and the Olympic one if my memory's correct), and the new Golden Axe is beign done by Secret Level (I think..?). Hell, Bioware's doing a Sonic RPG. So Sega shuffling off SoA2 to someone else to develop isn't such a far-fetched idea...and that's what scares me. If they manage to compile enough of the original dev team to do it, then I'm all for it. But since this is in the rumor stage, I'm being cautiously optimistic.

This is an interesting turn of events. I won't believe it until I see more proof, but Quartermann--unlike every other feature in EGM--is occasionally correct.
I don't think Sonic Team will handle this, since they seem to have their hands full with whatever's the Next Big Sonic Game--but I'd join you in that corner (Chargin' Mah Lazor) in the off chance they do wind up with it.
Also, it's hard to imagine what they'll do with it now. For all intents and purposes, the story of Vyse, Aika and Fina has been told to its' conclusion; there's nothing more to be said about them and their allies. So, a prequel? A story that takes place years after SoA/L? Or one that's based on a completely different world, a la Final Fantasy sequels?

I didn't want to make a whole new thread for this, so I'm bumping this one. It's kind of on topic anyway. Kotaku reports that Sega's PS3 Strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles includes appearances by Skies of Arcadia's Vyse and Aika. A hint for things to come, or just an obscure cameo? Only time will tell. At the very least, it's good to know Sega hasn't forgotten about these characters.

One of the best third party games I've played. I charge all of you to seek out the Gamecube version.
So are the characters gonna be playable, or just cameos? I won't be playing cuz I haven't got a PS3, but its interesting anyway. Hope this leads to a revival!

Yeah Skies of Arcadia was one of the best RPG's I've played, if not the best.
If there's a sequel I actually hope they pull the X years later thing and have a whole new cast do the adventuring, with Vyse being the world's legendary pirate. Otherwise it'll probably be Vyse and co going to space to find out the secrets of the moons or some other goofy shit.
Anyway it's rad they show up in that Valkyria game.

Woot Cameo! ^_^ I'm glad Sega hasn't forgotten them. That could be a good thing.

While I was lurking at the Shenmue Dojo forums, someone mentioned that EGM's latest rumor page listed the following: - Skies of Arcadia sequel will be announced sooner than you might think, along with that other SEGA franchise that you want the most, both for the Wii I'll try to confirm this next time I'm near a magazine rack. Could that "other SEGA franchise" be Shenmue?

Or Ristar. Or Alex Kidd. Or any other discontinued SEGA series that will make people go 'Aww HELL yeah'.
(See it be Tail's Sky Patrol or something)
If SoA2's graphic style will be of Vyse and co looking like they do in that Valkyria game then all's good. Tiny part of me is worried they'll go with a more serious style like the first few pieces of artwork from SoA.

This almost (aaaaaalmost) makes me want a new game with Vyse and all them in it, just to see what they'd look like without the Dreamcast's "stuck in the void between the N64 and GameCube" marshmallow graphics.
...wow, I would have had a lot harder of a time sympathizing with Vyse if he had hair like that in the actual game. He looks so anime-protagonist-cliché. :< I'm glad they changed it.

Or Ristar. Or Alex Kidd. Or any other discontinued SEGA series that will make people go 'Aww HELL yeah'. Well, I haven't heard of any recent rumors about Ristar, Alex Kidd, et al, but I have heard one about Shenmue recently. So, when another rumor pops up mentioning a sequel to Arcadia and an "other SEGA franchise," I put two and two together. Of course, it's an equation based entirely on pure gossip, so it could easily be absolutely nothing. But anyway, it looks like the July issue of EGM won't be on stands for another week or two. Subscribers are already getting it, tho, so perhaps we'll see a scan of the alleged rumor before then. Someone at Shenmue Dojo already asked for one.
