Nice update. Yeah, like everyone else, I thought it was going to suck, but it turned out alright.
I might not use it much as I'm use to the configurations. Or, will be, for the others.

My choice control scheme.
GameCube Controls Tap Jump: OFF
A: Attack B: Special Y: Jump X: Shield
Reasons: I hate the Tap Jump... I also hate using the R Trigger or Z Button to Shield, so it is naturally moved next to the A Button... Since I normally use Y to Jump, and that using it to Jump is natural since it was above the other three face buttons, the X Button was my choice for the Shield.

Sakurai's such a smartass, it's more detail of something covered twice.
I will be using the Classic Controller. I like a new controller for each Smash. Gamecube too, probably, as yeah, so used to it.

I just realized how awesome it'll be now that we'll be able to set the button configurations closer to how the characters actually play in their respective games. ;D

Sakurai's such a smartass, it's more detail of something covered twice. This isn't comparable to the Meta Knight debacle. The amount of info we got on controls before is barely a quarter of what we learned today; with MK's special moves, the only new information with the second go-round was a smidgen of extra detail.
Anyway, I plan on using either the Wiimote+Nunchuck scheme predominantly, largely because I've, er, lost most of my GameCube controllers. Seriously, my room is sentient--it swallows things I need. Wavebirds, USB cables, CDs...just gone one day. Yech. If the Wiichuck combo doesn't work out, then I'm gonna roll with the Classic Controller.
And no frackin' Tap Jump, either! Christ, that screws me up so much in Melee.

I am glad he added some little features. The Tap Jump is a wonderful idea, helping people who had some trouble, and the Shake smash is a nice little feature.
So, yeah, nothing stellar, but a good update that added something we didn't know.

Tap Jump being off is awesome indeed. I always jump with the Jump buttons, so I'll be using that feature ASAP. And I intend to stick with ol' faithful Gamecube controller.

My GCN controllers are getting worn and will be more worn when Brawl comes out, so I'll buy a Classic Controller as I don't have one yet. Plus I don't want to use button combinations knowing there are alternatives to use them.
