Yes, I will be reading very far into things. Please bear with me, I tend to stick to things and I am aware.
I love to guess on things, despite many disliking my concepts. But I want to make sense of things if they have little to connect with. Smash I always ignored, because I always just considered it being a bunch of toys fighting. But with the Emissary my interest raised... a press release that commented saying the multiplayer areas and characters were the real deal. This made me wonder.
I have two theories and split them as shown.
More Interesting: Reality Theory
Less Complicated: Alternate World Theory (Split into two, I'll cover this later)
Reality Theory
If I haven't lost you I give you thanks. Anyways, this concept came to me this week, heightened by the trailer update we got yesterday. I've had this on mind for some time, and came upon many fans often saying in works of art or just comments that this would be the "Third Tournament" and refer to everyone meeting up.
This would be a good way to explain the last two games, that, not counting the intro videos, the characters are all real, and fighting in their respectful worlds. But the world of Brawl, at least the adventure mode of it, is vastly different with a more realistic tone. Then we have the fact they're delving into the trophy stuff. I've come up with theories here, of course.
The Reality Theory is that this is a third event where Nintendo characters all around are invited to join in this tournament, as usual... but perhaps the one for Adventure Mode is set in a whole new world. But either the characters are preserved for fights in trophy form. Think of the Alien movies where the crews are kept in sleep through tanks.
Now, the trophy forms can be undone by being tapped in a certain way. And otherwise, they'll be stuck in trophy form. Much like death? Perhaps. Another idea is perhaps a method like Mother 2 is done. Each character's mind and soul is put into a trophy for this world.
The world has areas fitting to certain characters. I've come up with the idea that each part of the world was designed to fit with certain characters' habitats, and while waiting for their turn in the fights in coliseums much like the one in the beginning of Melee and the one in media for Brawl. So Pit would be in an area much like a part of Angel Land, which is the Skyworld part. He's in a Palace in the Sky shrine, and watching the fights, perhaps waiting his turn. DK and Diddy are in a jungle much like their own.
But this also brings up the original game. I've considered perhaps the characters fought in a world in the form of keychains but... I'd rather not consider that theory further.
Alternate World Theory
Sub-Theory 1
This is the theory I used to consider a lot. The theory is that the entire Smash series is non-canonical, and no character in the game is the same character as the one in their own games. So that's not Mario enjoying a tournament or Snake actually taking recon on alternate world lifeforms. And this would mean everything is a keychain doll or trophy.
Sub-Theory 2
This is the theory I came up with after the NOA press saying the multiplayer worlds in the Smash series weren't trophies. NOA is not always right but their word seemed right. This is my idea that the Emissary world is an alternate world with trophies, but the multiplayer is all real in the real worlds. But the one thing that makes me side with the first theory is that the characters in Emissary seem too much like the true characters to be imitations. Something about that.
Forgive me for dragging on, I hope at least a few of you are reading this and have read at least a few points of mine. Any theories of yours on the series of Smash? Any agreements with one of mine? I'd love to hear from you guys.
