Does Gardevoir ring a bell? Point taken... but the majority of Hoenn Pokemon are based on animals and plants.

don't forget Lopunny, that girl's got some fine hips.
...even when she's male.

There's also lots of strange art with Blaziken...

I have seen some art involving Blaziken and Gardevoir in very compromising situations. They were on DeviantArt.

While there's 34 of all 492, in any combination, in any position....
Gardevoir seems to be one of the most popular. Which is a shame... because I like Gardevoir. Just... not like that. I like humans.

Gardevoir can be male too, which is why it frightens me. And why don't you see such art for Jynx? I think I'm gonna pull the race card on this one...
RBY had very basic, mono/dual-chrome monsters who were not so much animals as they were just general ideas. It was awesome because it's classic, but it also kept Pokemon in the realm of other monster-battling games where there were incredibly rare types (Dragon and Ghost) that were limited to one family each, a lot of the monsters were easily outclassed by others, and the movepools were very generic (i.e. all Water-types learn Hydro Pump as a final move, all Fire-types learn Flamethrower, there are only like... 8 Electric moves and all Electric-types learn every one, etc.)
GSC attempted to alleviate this multiple ways. The Pokemon are more nature based, as Johto is basically the OLD Japan and so it would make sense. We get more animals this time, more pastels and bright colors, and moves become a bit diversified. Sadly, the monsters still outclass one another easy. Steel and Dark types are limited and become two more super-rare types.
RSE fixed a LOT of these problems. The super-rare types became more common, moves were incredibly diverse and no longer did Electric-types all learn the same attacks or what have you, and the Pokemon became more "tropical" and "exotic." We get to see the balancing of the system to some degree as well. Pokemon still by and large suck in some cases (like Luvdisc), but the addition of Natures and a streamlined EV system help to make Pokemon a bit more powerful and adapted to particular "job classes" if you will. The battle environment changes to a completely cheap "I'm so fast I keel you" type thing, though, and so only really fast and really powerful hitters dominate the scene, annoying everyone. Also, you can't get hardly ANY Pokemon outside Hoenn unless you're willing to shell out $$$ for extra games.
DP fixes ALL of these and more. It returns the fun exploration and game features of GSC to the forefront as well as adding the ability to catch nearly every single Pokemon in one cartridge. Pokemon become even more diversified in their movepools and finally feel incredibly unique in comparison to others even of the same type while Ghost, Dark, Dragon, and Steel finally become regular old common types like the rest of 'em. The new Pokemon are sort of a mishmash because some clearly look like the RBY gen while others appear GSC-style and still others are very humanoid "monsters" like the RSE days. The style, overall, is more cartoony if anything. The competitive scene allows more defensive or miscellaneous strategies to come into the forefront and it becomes fairly more balanced. Pokemon that may have sucked before gain new evolutions, moves, and items to benefit them significantly. Tiers still exist, but they are not nearly as clear-cut as the old days.
And because I feel like, I'd have to say my faves from each generation: RBY -- Blastoise, Oddish, Slowbro, Aerodactyl, Kingler. I use all of them (Vileplume rather than Oddish) regularly. GSC -- Ursaring, Dunsparce, Typhlosion. I use all of 'em. RSE -- Sceptile, Ninjask, Swalot, Armaldo. I use all of 'em. DP -- Mamoswine, Torterra, Magmortar, Tangrowth. I use all of 'em.
My team varies with each battle. I have my standards, but my team shifts quite often amongst the 20+ that I have. I focus mostly on Defense and Speed which I think is a fantastic combo--my Special Sweeps are insanely fast, and my Phys. Sweeps can take quite a few hits. I don't do the Baton Pass/Stat Buff/Tank game as much as I used to.

In terms of design, Blastoise > all, but Torterra comes close to him.
Evidently I have a thing for turtle based Pokemanz. Except for Shuckle. That thing sucks...le.

My D/P team consists of Roserade, Alakazam, Luxray, Empoleon, Staraptor, and Infernape which I got in a trade. I love how this topic derailed ;D

for the record, a male Gardevoir or Lopunny is way less disturbing than a female Machamp.
YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE

Flip, I like the way you think. Looking at games within context is a great way to appreciate each one's benefits, and also to take the edge off their shortcomings.
Even the sucky Pokemon tend to have an in-game role. That's what I think a lot of people forget. Not all of them are meant to be uber-battlers. Some of them carry rare items or are useful early in the game, but don't evolve so are useless when the levels (and stats) go up and up.

OH MY GOD, IT'S wizzleING EPIC.
EDiT: This confirms a lot of things:
1// Mario and Link will eventually pair up 2// GREEN HILL ZONE!! SHOOP DA WOOP 3// Meta Knight will start a "badass swordsman" group with Ike and Marth 4// Ness and Marth = BACK FOR SURE. 5// Looks like a Metroid-style escape with Samus and Pikachu 6// Pokémon Trainer teams up with Lucas

So... Is this the first "official leak"? As in the first not somehow done by Nintendo?

I think this is not so much an official leak as somebody in Japan has the game and has uploaded video footage of it online. Which is WiCKED. Then again, maybe that's what Melee leaks were, too.
So, second official leak then, I suppose, after the NessJigglypuffLucario thing.
