This is a cautionary tale from yours truly.
For any of you other guys who preordered from anywhere that wasn't a GameStop, be sure to call in and ask. I saw they were doing midnight launch and when I preordered back in January I was told they were. Turns out the local Toys R Us where I preordered didn't get enough preorders to bother, so at least my plans have been shot. My friend, who planned to do SSE the second he got it, is holing himself up in his room and the rest of us, who were doing multiplayer on my copy, have to wait a few more hours till the store opens on Sunday. OMG, a few more hours--not a big deal. But it sucks the big one, lemme tell you.

Well I just found out that Toys R Us may not even have the game ready for preorders on Sunday. Gamestop has such an evil little monopoly going in some places; I think they are the only store doing midnight launches that anybody has talked about. So much for trying to be the nice and intelligent guy who avoided GS like the plague

Im importing my copy of Brawl, so I don't have to go through the stores at least. Game stores are really bad over where I live, a couple of times my friend placed pre-orders on games only to find out that when he went to pick it up on release date they sold his preorder to meet demand! Online shopping rules! Although my shopping urges usually end up in spending money i dont have

I'm guessing Neko Neko works at one.
Anyway, I ordered mine online, so I probably won't get it until the middle of next week. Which I'm okay with. Better than wasting gas to drive 2 hours round trip to get it...

I found out GS is still doing reserves, so I'm reserving there tonight and am just going to the midnight release. I'm out five bucks at Toys R Us, but oh well. I don't have a car on campus so my only means of getting it at launch were reserving at GS, so I'll do that tonight.
Some day, in the future, I will win a battle with the giant...

Yeah, as I mentioned in another thread, I am the Assistant Manager at our local GS.

That being said, you can either have a good or a nightmarish experience at a Gamestop depending entirely on the people who work there. I almost got shafted out of my copy of Twilight Princess on the Wii's release because the Gamestop I had it reserved at didn't enter the preorder correctly - instead signing me up for the GC version. Wound up getting it in the end and after a bit of a fight, but there you go.
On the other hand, Neko's Gamestop has treated me like a king. Helps knowing the guys that work there, and even moreso when they know what the fuck they're doing ;D

I am going to the Midnight Release tonight at my local GameStop (10-15 minute walk or 2-5 minute drive from my house). I am real excited about finally playing the game after 2 years of waiting. ;D
